Great book, I like how the sections are split for easy to find inspiration. Lots of really different recipes to try and great visuals in the book. Could only be improved by adding nutritional value on the recipes.
This is a well-rounded recipe book! I like how the chapters are split: speedy suppers, bung it in the oven, meat free, to name a few.
The 100 recipes are not too complex but include some interesting ingredients - I think there's something for everyone in this book.
[I received a copy of this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review]
I have one previous well-used, caked in food Joe Wicks book in my kitchen, and we generally cook one of the recipes from it once a week.
This one is definitely a must buy for the kitchen. I liked the recipes even more than the first!
Some of the ingredients are a little unusual 'creamed coconut block'? Oh sure, I'll just go grab it...
But generally, the recipes are pretty straight forward and easy to follow, and so tasty!
Highly recommend.
This is a great recipe book. It’s so easy to follow, even for the less adventurous chef. It has realistic expectations and uses store cupboard ingredients. It’s a joy to use and will be a stalwart presence in my kitchen from here in it. Another great success Joe. You can do no wrong!!!
I Love Joe’s books, they are usually simple to prepare but excellent, tasty dishes. I own nearly all of them but this latest book was a little disappointing as I know I won’t prepare over half of the dishes. Joe and his ghost writers/chef need to look elsewhere for world cuisine as a lot of the dishes are samey or not very tasty, I really think he should put out a book on fakeaways that are healthy and mouthwatering as this Uber healthy line he’s taking with his books is dull and not what his whole mission was.
Great book with loads of recipe ideas and glorious pictures too, usual Joe Wicks enthusiasm shines through the book too.
Joe Wicks has become a staple on our TV screens extolling the virtue of keeping fit, as well as bringing out a series of cookery books with easy-to-follow recipes. This latest one focuses on family food and most of the recipes will appeal to busy parents who need something quick and easy to prepare that is also balanced and nutritious.
I liked the different sections and clear layout of ingredients, although I would have liked to see all the recipes photographed. Some unfamiliar ingredients also needed a quick explanation - for example, ketjap manis, an Indonesian soy sauce - as not everyone will know what they are.
The emphasis on getting younger family members involved is a good one as children are more likely to eat food if they have helped in its preparation. Joe clearly subscribes to the Jamie Oliver school of getting your children involved in cooking from an early age and this is to be applauded.
These are all recipes that can be easily reproduced and adapted for busy lifestyles and I will definitely be trying some - the beetroot and chocolate cake in particular!
I was sent an advance review copy of this book by Pan Macmillan, in return for an honest appraisal.
Another good recipe book from Joe containing a good few recipes I would like to try for my kids - who are teenagers. It is well laid out, concise and easy to follow. The photography is great and I wouldn't have any hesitation in buying any book that Joe brought out.
Another of Joe’s cookbooks and this one is pitched as a family cookbook. For me, the recipes included while obviously giving a family a very nutritious menu plan, wouldn’t be ones that my children would instantly go for as well as having less common ingredients. I also found the standard quantities of 2 adults + 2 small children frustrating as while that is Joe’s family make up, didn’t translate easily for me with my larger family of older kids. However I did take a few recipes from it that I would like to try even if just for myself and my husband! Many thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
This is the first time I have read a Joe Wicks cook book. I loved the photos. I like a cook book with actual photos so you can compare your meal to the chef's! Crammed packed with recipes for the family. I am yet to try any recipes but will edit my review of this book when I have given some a go. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I really like Joe Wicks and his lean in 15 recipes have always been easy and totally doable. This book is a great extension of that. There are some fab recipes in this. The pear and oat bake is divine as is the oaty katsu chicken fingers. Really simple instructions turned this reluctant cook and terrible eater into an eager chef. I feel enthusiastic and excited about dinner time again. I will make loads more from this recipe book for sure. I also loved all the little pieces about his family which made it also a nice book to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me access to this book. I liked the style and ideas this book contained. I thought that it was really good with the different sections which also included kids meals that I really see in other books. However, there was a lot of the meals containing fish which I do not like.
I thought this book would be filled with kid friendly recipes, but I am let down. The recipes are pretentious and not many children would attempt to eat them. I showed my kids the recipes in preparation to making them. They didn't like any of the recipes.
I definitely wouldn't buy
It's a good recipe book, although some of these recipes are not things my kids would eat and some contain ingredients that are not easy to find, however it's quick and tasty recipes. I have read better cookbooks from Joe Wicks but it's still worth buying.
You would have to be a complete hermit to have come out of the last 18 months unaware of who Joe Wickes is. He is a fitness phenomenon who has inspired many and did his part during lockdown to get us up and moving when we had to stay at home. Always on the look for new recipes to try and as ever trying to eat more healthily, I was looking forward to getting a glimpse at "Joe's family food".
Within the pages of "Joe's family food" are recipes from a wide variety of cultures, and delicious looking photos. The recipes are handily split up by length of time to cook and the method you use to cook and includes ideas of food you can cook with your children and celebrations.
I found I wanted to try only about half of the recipes listed either because they were not to my taste (if you love fish and beetroot you are on to a winner as they are featured frequently) or because I anticipated having difficulty getting some of the ingredients - banana shallots and carvolo nero for example. I also wanted more context to some of the dishes - what is a shakshuka and what culture is it from?
It's got some delicious recipes which I am excited to try but it definitely loses points on being accessible and on being a cookbook I'll refer to frequently.
Thank you to Joe Wicks, the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a copy of the book in exchange for an honest opinion.
This book has shaken our family out of our dull dinner rut. Lots of nutritious tasty ideas. No expensive equipment or wacky ingredients necessary just wholesome hearty family food. The photographs are so good - every single dish is bright, colourful, appealing and just begging to be tried.
Favourites here so far are Oaty Katzu chicken dippers, Lemon & Courgette Puff Pastry Tart, Cheesy Ham Mushroom and Spinach Rarebits and Sweet Potato Mash with Sausages. I’m also eyeing up the Beetroot & Chocolate Cake. It looks divine and with Beetroot and avocado in it, it’s got to be good for you right!?!
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC. I’ll be purchasing a copy for my own kitchen. 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Yet again, Joe has smashed it! A fantastic book full of gorgeous recipes that alleviate the stress of 'What should I make tonight?'
We've made several of the recipes and loved them all so far- a must buy!
I received this ARC from Netgalley, downloaded it, but it disappeared from my account before I was able to read it so I’m unable to review this book.
As an out and our fusspot I love new cookbooks to see if there are some different recipes I can use and enjoy. Now for me there’s a lot I wouldn’t eat but As i say im fussy. However I am impressed at the speed at which most of these recipes can be completed. Perfect for families tight on time but wanting good food. Best dishes for me are definitely the five spice chicken skewers and the red Thai curry. If you love a good cookbook with healthy alternatives. This is the one.
Fabulous family fun cookbook retaining Joe’s signature style, with realistic, speedy ways to incorporate healthy ingredients into everyday dinners. As an incentive to get cooking, the book is packed with mouthwatering photos of the dishes you can create with clear, easy to follow recipes. Adorable photos of Joe with his wife and cute children embracing that important family time with mindfulness of sharing food and togetherness!
