The latest book from Joe contains 100 new recipes aimed at the whole family
The book is divided into 7 recipe chapters. Each recipe gives preparation & cooking times along with lovely pictures. There is also plenty if pictures of Joe and his family.
I'm not sure that most or your average child would want to eat all of these recipes. However, I will definitely be trying out at least a couple of these recipes myself.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this read.
What is there not to love about this man!!!!! So when Joe Wicks published a book I had to get it.......Oh boy! it did not disappoint, "Joe's Family Food" was brilliant and well illustrated throughout with 100 Delicious, which was so easy and fun to create together as a family. I have created some of these and they were a hit within my growing family.....All ingredients were easy sourced and I had clean plates at the end of their meal.
Highly recommend this book! Loved it and so di my family
With thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan Bluebird for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This recipe book has a fair range of family friendly recipes, with an emphasis on ‘healthy’ food.
The instructions are clear, the pictures accompanying them bright and enticing, and there’s not too much random waffle, which I think would be annoying.
One criticism is that there are maybe not enough new or different recipes to make this worthwhile - lots are for dishes I already have a version of, or for dishes I just wouldn’t try. I also think it would have been helpful if ‘sized up’ ingredients lists had been provided - most of the recipes serve 4, meaning 2 adults and 2 small kids. I understand this is fits a target audience of the book, but it could easily have been made more appealing for those with teens or more than 2 kids! This is the thing which would put me off trying some of the recipes, as I’ll have to alter almost all of them.
I do quite like Joe Wickes’ other recipe books and I do like this one also, I’m not entirely sure though which kids (certainly not mine) would be eating some of these recipes especially when laden with vegetables but if nothing else did open conversations in our family about what is healthy eating!
Maybe too many non recipe / food related photos but then I am one of those that only ever just wants a recipe filled cookbook…. No story behind the recipe, no family portraits / posed to not look like posing ‘natural’ photos etc
So Joe Wicks comes across as a really lovely person, but I just don't get on with his books. This one lost me almost straight away, when the very first recipe uses sesame oil to saute mushrooms. SESAME OIL!! It has a really low smoking point, so is never used for cooking, only as an oil for dressing. Good sesame oil is also pretty expensive, so why waste it cooking mushrooms!
ANYWAY. Apart from the sesame oil outrage, the book is well laid out, and has plenty of pictures throughout (I always like to know what the dish should look like!) There's a fairly wide variety of dishes, although for me they relied a bit too heavily on meat and fish. I also did think a couple of times that JW''s children must be a lot less picky than I was as a child!
Another really great cookbook to add to my collection. I like how the picture and recipe are on the same page, and can recommend the ‘bung it in the oven’ section especially the meal on page 58.
Joe has a produced a cook book that is easy to follow with some amazing pictures. However, a lot of the recipes mean having to plan your shopping. Not an issue but worth knowing.
My biggest problem - my kids. I would have preferred a few more hidden veggies. My children just looked at the pictures and went No. No. Nope. Getting families to eat healthier is a must but I don’t think Joes recipes will cut in our household. I myself will try them tho.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC
Everyone loves Joe Wicks, his work outs were a a highlight of Lockdown #1 and brought him to the attention to anyone who didn't already know about his workout and healthy eating plans. Those workouts were aimed at children (though parents joined in) and Joe is back with a recipe book aimed at those same families who sweated and smiled as they jumped about in front the TV with him.
There are plenty of photos in the book which is always a big winner for a recipe book, I hate it when books don't have them. Half the fun in choosing what to eat is picturing it! There are plenty of ideas, including recipes you can make with the kids, recipes for batch cooking, ones for on the hob, ones for in the oven, and more. They handily include timings for prep and cooking, as well as the number of servings for each recipe. Time is often key with family cooking so this is good.
I would say that a lot of the recipes use things that you might not have to hand at home so a certain element of preparation is required. Additionally, as much as I would love to say that both my kids adore vegetables and will eat any of these recipes, I can't, and my 3 year old sat with me saying,"but I don't like that, that,or that...." , mostly whilst pointing to the green things so a little adjustment may be required for fussy eaters. There are plenty of recipes he was really enthusiastic by though which is a great sign. We'll definitely be using some of these recipes for our family meals.
Another good book by Joe Wicks.
Some fab recipes to get your mouth watering.
For me personally not much I would cook from this one I tend to use his lean in 15 over and over again.
Still a book though I will purchase to add to the collection.
Love this book by Joe Wicks! Exciting and tasty recipes with colourful pictures. My mouth was watering just by reading the book. There really is something for everyone including my fussy eaters.
All the recipes are straightforward and explained well.
I'm looking forward to cooking recipes in the book especially the healthier desserts as I got a sweet tooth. I'm going to make the homemade flat bread this weekend.
Gorgeous photography and delicious, foolproof and healthy recipes- what’s not to love! Another success of a book from Joe Wicks- I can’t wait to try out even more of the recipes
I previously received a copy of Joe's cooking for family and friends book and it became a staple within our house. I was excited to receive Joe's new book as a result. This book contains a number of varied, tasty recipes, all of which are well set out, easy to follow and simple to make.
Firstly, this book is absolutely beautiful to look at. The photography is stunning! The photos of the food, and the photos of Joe and his family. (I appreciate the book is called Joes Family Food but wow, there are A LOT of pictures of Joes family.)
I really liked the fact that the majority of the recipes have pictures attached. I also liked that it says how many portions the recipe has (including children's portions) I also loved the fact that it says whether or not you can freeze the recipes. Something really useful to me as I end up having to batch cook and freeze a lot of my recipes.
A decent amount of veggie recipes too!
A great recipe book for fans of Joe Wicks that is aimed at families. All recipes are based on a portion size big enough for 2 adults and 2 small kids. Personally as my children are almost teenagers these portions would need to be increased to suit us. Each recipe comes with helpful symbols to show if they can be frozen so that is useful if preparing larger batches. There is even a section dedicated to batch cooking. The only downside is that many of the ingredients are perhaps too adventurous for the majority of children so may not be completely family friendly.
A very good cookbook aimed at young families giving plenty of ideas and inspiration which should tempt most palates. Colourful photography accompanying most of the recipes to further inspire. It is refreshing to see the book doesn't include quirky or expensive ingredients which a lot of people would find hard to access unless they live in a large city. The recipes are designed, by Joe's admission, for two adults and two small children but could be easily adapted and increased to accommodate older children with bigger appetites or decreased if just catering for two adults. The recipes appear easy to follow and divided into 7 chapters ranging from Speedy Suppers to longer leaving it to cook Bung it in the Oven.. There is also a Meat Free chapter but the recipes in all the chapters could be adapted to Meat Free and likewise the addition of meat in the Meat Free one would also work if desired.
My daughter, who is a great fan of Joe and has two small children (she likes to get them involved in the kitchen and there is a chapter 'Cooking with Kids') would find this book a great asset so I think I will try and buy it for her at some point.
Brimming with great recipes. Easy to follow and reasonably easy ingredients. Can't wait to try lots of them out.
Before lockdown Joe Wicks was just another celebrity health buff, and I didn't know much about him. But with the advent of home schooling and PE with Joe, my whole family have become fans. This made it a lot easier to get my kids to engage with Joe's Family Food, as it wasn't just another chef trying to get them to eat more healthily.
There's a great range of recipes to try in the book, with plenty of lovely photos of the dishes to really bring them to life - although there were a few cries of 'that doesn't look like the picture', when I tried to recreate them! We especially liked the 'bung in the oven' section, as the recipes were easy to prepare and there was enough time to get the sides ready whilst the main was in the oven.
What was really great for us was that there were lots of recipes that didn't seem too healthy ie. things that my kids would actually try without actually realising that they were good for them! There's plenty of inspiration for 'grown up' dinners as well, as it's always nice to try something new.
A great cookbook with some great easy recipes for all the family. I managed to get my son who has autism to get involved with creating and trying out the cheese and tomato galette we’re now looking forward to trying out some more recipes this weekend!
This is a lovely cookbook with beautiful photos of the food and Joe's family. Pretty much all of the recipes appeal to me and I will be trying loads in the coming weeks. There are some really lovely new ideas for combinations of food which sound delicious.. I love Joe's version of a chicken and mushroom pot noodle!
All the ingredients are easy to source which is a big plus point as some recipes books are a little challenging in that respect. It is marketed as 'family food' and I applaud Joe Wick for this despite some negative remarks I see online about the flavour complexity of some of his recipes., There are still many people who regard 'family food' as fish fingers and chicken nuggets but they would likely be pleasantly surprised if they exposed their children to Joe's recipes as most children will embrace a variety of flavours if offered them and especially if they are included in the cooking process.
I can thoroughly recommend this book and if you have small children so let them join in the cooking process from as young as they are able to.
I became a Joe fan when he started doing kids p.e when lockdown started and the kids loved it, so 8 started checking out his books. This one is lovely with great recipes and cute pictures of his family!
