Abuse doesn't always leave visible bruises. Cait suffers from years of mental abuse. Then she falls in the water but doesn't know how to swim. Luckily Brant is nearby and saves her from drowning. Thus begins a growing relationship that helps overcome years of damage and eventually leads to so much more. A wonderful ending too. Loved it!
While I haven't read a ton of books by this author, this story's description really grabbed me.
Even though I hadn't read the book before, I could get into the small town and all the characters.
The plot has a lot of swoony charm and sweet feelings-an emotionally complicated heroine, a handsome boat builder who is trying to win her heart, and an adorable village full of side characters.
I rooted for Cait, and I felt for her enormously as she tried to reconcile her past with her new life- with sisters she didn't have and with friends and a home that surprisingly felt safe. She's got a lot of walls to bust down, and her character is full of stoic strength and tender vulnerability. Brant is a charming and sweet hero- a gentle presence next to Cait's more complicated arc.
I liked them both as characters individually, but I thought their chemistry as a couple, even with the fun opposites attract vibe, was a bit lukewarm for me. It might be Cait's emotional distance or my own headspace, but their connection didn't resonate with me as other reads had. However, I appreciated the themes of healing and hope- and finding oneself in family and love.
An emotional and romantic read about Cait and Brant learning how to open up and trust each other. By the time your done you’ll miss your friends.
I love the author’s books and while this one felt a bit flat for me, I enjoyed the romance and some characters and their interaction . I can’t wait to read the next ones in the series
I absolutely adore Cait and her strength. She has been through so much in her life. Brant was her perfect match. He was always there when she needed him, even if she didn’t realize it.
I was cheering for Cait when she faced the fire, so to speak. Holy smokes that scene was so powerful. Actually, it’s more like sceneS because it’s never just one little bit that makes the whole part so amazing.
What an emotional journey!
Cait has had a horrible life. She lives everyday in fear of what could be. She hides her past like a dirty secret and does not trust easily. So imagine how she feels when she meets Brant. Love at first sight? Maybe for him….
Brant is flirtatious and always trying to get Cait to give him a chance. He can tell that something in her past has scared her. There are moments of vulnerability and moments when she lets her walls come down just a bit. Can he convince her to give home a chance? Or will she turn tail and run?
This book was a very emotional journey for Cait. She is a beautiful soul, whom is sweet and caring, yet terrified of her past. Her journey is a long one, yet very rewarding. She couldn’t ask for a better support system.
This book touches on the very sensitive subject of abuse. It will have many triggers in it, so don’t tread lightly going into this read. Your heart will break, but it will heal in the end.
Overall this is a very beautiful story. The characters are wonderful and fun to be around. I love the dynamics of them all. It teaches you that blood doesn’t mean family. Family comes in all shapes and sizes, and just because they are not blood related doesn’t mean they are not your family. Family is and always will be the ones who love you the most and have your back no matter the circumstances.
The minute I met Cait in Maybe We Will (Silver Harbor, Book 1), I knew that she had been through rough experiences. As she reveals her past, your heartbreaks and gets rebuilt as you see her overcome every challenge and take charge of her future. I loved watching her build new friendships and how the people of Silver Harbor opened their hearts to Cait.
Brant, oh Brant! A swoony, dedicated hero if there was ever was one. The moment he saw her, he knew she was special. I loved how persistent he was in finding ways to get to know her. He was also extremely patient, knowing that he could only move at Cait’s timeline or he would scare her off completely. Yet, at the same time, he seized every opportunity to get more time with her.
Enter Scrappy, the abandoned pup that they “co-parent.” While providing a comforting companion to Cait, it also offered casual opportunities for Brant to spend time with Cait and build their relationship.
This story also had me falling more in love with Silver Harbor. Between Mermaid Cove, Family Bonfires, Movie Nights, and the Bra Brigade, you can’t help but want to be a part of this community.
Melissa Foster’s worlds collide in this book; between the people of Silver Harbor and the Whiskey’s, you have an extensive cast of characters. I have read a few of their stories, but others were new to me. Foster provided enough insight to the characters to help understand the connections. However, if you are new to Foster, I recommend starting with The Whiskeys, The Steeles at Sliver Island, or Sugar Lake Series.
I also recommend reading Silver Harbor series in order for the best experience in this small island town.
I really like Melissa Fosters writing but i just havent gelled with this series as much as i have with others by her. I liked how the story started with Cait rescuing the puppy which ineveitably brought her and Brant togther. He's made his feelings for her clear from when they met in book 1 but Cait has always denied him and has her walls up due to past trauma. I liked these 2 together they are the other half of each other him being a positive force to Caits dark days but i just didnt feel any real build up from them before they got together which is the bit i love in romance books. Overall and ok read
Maybe We Should is the second book in the Silver Harbor series. This one is Cait and Brant's story. While I loved the first book, I loved this one even more. Brant has been added to and moved up near the top of my book boyfriend list. I just loved how he broke down Cait's barriers and proved to her she deserved everything she wanted in life. Brant and Cait were wonderful together. I loved their banter and their fall into love. One of the best parts of the story was Ava's letter to Cait. What an emotional scene! I love this series and can't wait for Deirdre's book next!
Melissa Foster is one of my favorite authors and I absolutely adored this book. Cait and Brant were perfection and I couldn't put this one down. I definitely recommend it.
I have to admit I had to put this book down a few times, as Cait's experiences mirrored some of my own. I do not want to give any spoilers and the ending is what all of us that have been through similar experiences hope to have the strength to overcome and find someone who will love us unconditionally while we still may be trying to heal from a dark past. It takes a strong person both mentally and emotionally to be your anchor to the turbulent waters that take over your mind. Brant is definitely that for Cait. This book gave me the hope that one day an anchor will save me from more than what I've already saved myself from or rather give me the strength when I don't feel my own is enough. Melissa Foster again tackles a subject that no one wants to talk about, and brings light to darkness in so many ways.
I loved this book ! You first meet Cait in maybe we will! She just finds out who her birth mother is , who recently passed . She learns she has 2 sisters. It’s easy to like Cait , the tattoo artist who helps run the bistro with her newly aquired sisters .
Brant quickly sets his sights job Cait . Brant is hard not to love , he has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint . He is set to wait on Cait , proving to her that she can trust him . Cait has a hard time trusting due to her past , can she open her heart to Brant and get her happy ending ?!
This book was amazing it gave me all the feels from laughing to crying to being frustrated . The HEA is totally worth every emotion you feel !if your a fan of Melissa Foster or just feel good endings in a book, You should Read this one you won’t be disappointed
Another winner from Melissa Foster, she is definitely one of my favourite one-click authors. I love that no matter how many book of hers I read, they are all different and have their own unique characters and situations.
Cait and Brant are so different to one another, but that just makes their connection that much better.
Cait and Brant have slowly been introduced to us in a few recent books, and it is so good to see them get their HEA.
Cait experienced a difficult childhood, but manage to escape and eventually settling with the Wicked on the Cape, where she works for Tank in his Tattoo shop. Her world was changed again when she discovered the sisters she knew nothing about after the death of her birth mother. Now she's trying to split her time between her life on the Cape with he4r new life on Silver Island.
Brant Remington has grown up on Silver Island with his brothers and sisters, having fun in a loving and stable family and mixing with their friends.
When Cait and Brant are introduced by her new sister, the attraction startles a wary Cait and Brant has to prove to her that history won't repeat and she deserves her happy ever after.
As usual Melissa writes with such emotion that you feel every thing that the characters on the page go through. I really think that Melissa's book need a tear rating! Even though this is book two of the Silver Harbour series, you don't need to have read the previous one or any of the others to enjoy this book, but I guarantee you'll be reading them after :)
Amazing story, amazing characters, who fight their way to forever. Cait was a very strong woman, who battled her past. She did it so beautifully with Brant cheering her on and supporting her along the way. I loved that Brant never gave up on her no matter what she tried to say to get him to run. Each time he showed her how love worked. Definitely a story I will want to read again. And an author that never fails to deliver a beautiful story with amazing characters.
4.5 star
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, pain, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Maybe We Will (Silver Harbor #1)
This is Cait and Brant’s story. These two are opposites. He is open with people and she is super guarded. She has a hard time trusting after all the things from her past. He just needs to knock down a few of her walls so he can get her to see that he’s not bad. With her spending time with her family and growing as a person and slowing learning to trust she lets him into her life. But is that a good or bad thing? Whenn you trust someone you leave your self open to pain and heartbreak. Is she going to have to deal with pain and heartbreak or will he prove he is worth the trust she gave him?
I highly recommend this book.

I freakin’ loved this book. I wasn’t sure I would, which I will get to later, but it definitely hit all my romance loving buttons and then some.
Cait and Brant. I adored these two. Brant is seriously a good man. It may make him sound boring, but he is anything but boring. I loved how open and honest he was and how he did everything he could to live his best life and did his best to make sure everyone else around him was as well. Cait. This woman is fierce. She survived a lot growing up and where some may have allowed that to keep them down, she picked herself up and did all she could to find her happiness.
Their journey to their HEA was a fun one from start to finish. The chemistry between them was intense, their bantering was a lot of fun, and I just really liked their flow. But most of all I liked how they learned to communicate with each other. Brant was already an open book, but once Cait allowed herself to trust him, she didn’t hold back and it made all the difference in her own personal growth as well as them as a couple and I loved where they were at in the end.
So, to that whole “I wasn’t sure” statement. I didn’t have to say it, but I believe in full transparency…and basically, as much as I’ve loved the books I’ve read by this author, the first in this series was a rough one for me, I still enjoyed it, but not as much as her others, which made me a bit wary to dive into this one, but I was totally curious about Cait so I did and loved it! (And yest, I know this is a crazy, horrible run on sentence, but it is what it is). There are triggers in here, but they are handled well. And as for the supporting cast of characters ~ I will admit that part of my love is due to the Wicked’s being a big part of this book ~ but also I really liked hanging out with everyone on the island and if Deidra’s man is who I think it will be…well, I’m all in!

I'm usually a sucker for broken man in my books but this time around my whole heart went to Cait. Don't get me wrong if there was ever a definition of a perfect man, Brant's picture would be underneath it. He was patient, kind and loved her like she deserved.
But her story touched me and left me feeling sorry for her even though that's the last thing Cait would want us to feel. She didn't have an easy life and the consequences are still there and are preventing her from reaching out and taking Brant's hand to ride off into the sunset. But he is determined to prove to her that the life they could built is worth all the fight and i loved how she went about confessing her feeling for him.
I'm not sure how many books I've read by Melissa Foster and yet ever time I still find something new to love and with this one was no different.

Having read several of Melissa’s books, I was already keeping my eye out on Netgalley. And there was Maybe We Should, the second one of the Silver Harbor series. The great thing is, that several series of Melissa interconnect. So, if you have read different series, you still can encounter a character from another series.
The Silver Harbor series concentrates on the sisters Abby, Deirdra and Cait. In Maybe We Will we learned how Abby and Deirdra found out that they had an older sister, Cait, who was given up for adoption, by their mother. What we didn’t learn, but do now in Maybe We Should, is the rest of Cait’s past. This explains a lot about her behavior and also about her reluctance to let people get close to her. Brant is the total opposite of Cait: an open book, a charmer and not afraid to show his feelings. He feels attracted to Cait and uses every opportunity to flirt with her. Cait doesn’t know what to think of Brant. But when he rescues her and the dog she was trying to help from drowning, Cait agrees to shared custody over the dog. Shared days lead to kisses at night. But Cait is not ready to move on from the ghosts of her past. Can Brant help her to shed the shadows of the past?
A wonderful, gripping tale of trust, family and letting go of the past. Absolutely loved it. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
And I’m looking forward to reading Maybe We Won ‘t, where hopefully Deirdra will get her happily ever after as well!
Brant is pretty much perfect – caring, sweet, understanding, and patient (oh and hot) – which may annoy some (because seriously who is THAT perfect) but honestly the story is really about Cait. And she needs someone that is just that good to support her. She’s had a hard life and had finally found a safe place to land, only to have things shaken up with the discovery of her birth mother. And sisters! Sisters that come with awesome friends and the chance of a different future but only if she’s willing to let go of her past and take a chance.
I really enjoyed Cait’s journey. She was hesitant at first to get involved with Brant but when she does decide to give a relationship with him a try she gives it her all. It’s not immediate, she has to work on it, but with help from Brant, her sisters, and their friends she finds herself opening up and looking toward a future together on Silver Island.
I usually avoid romances that have a character that is not into relationships, mostly because they usually involve more drama than I prefer, but I also know that Foster is really good at what she does. And she once again proves it with Brant and Cait’s story. There’s a lot of emotion but not a lot of tumultuousness. Giving readers all the feels and a satisfying read, without a roller coaster ride to the happy ever after ending.
(While this is technically a stand alone, there are A LOT of characters from previous – and future – books that make an appearance. It may be confusing for some, but Foster does provide a family tree for those that want to see how everyone relates. And maybe figure out what books to add to their TBR pile 🙂 )
