Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
A great self help book to help anxiety. It was very easy to read and understand and I gained a lot from it. Some of it I was familiar with but I still learnt and felt refreshed from a lot in the book. It will continue to help me with friends and family with how I listen and react to them.
Highly recommended.
Counselling Psychologist Dr Rachel M Allan provides evidence-based advice on the cyclical nature of anxiety, helping you understand how anxiety works and how your loved one might be feeling. You will discover how you can best help someone stuck in a negative thought pattern, how to start a helpful conversation, and the importance of listening.
Through the advice in this book, you'll learn how to best support and empower your loved one day to day, without compromising your own emotional wellbeing.
As an anxiety sufferer for over 20 years I found this advice immeasurable
I requested a copy of this book as I needed a refresher on how to help my son with his anxiety, which is really affecting his life. I have done courses before but recently have
felt I'm not doing the right thing.
This book is simple to follow and just what I needed to remind me of ways to help him.
Also the self-care part at the end was something I needed to hear too.
I will reread this in a short while to make sure I'm still doing right.
Brilliant self-help book, was an eye opener and super insightful! I learnt a lot and didn’t want to put it down! Cant wait to put my newfound knowledge in to action
This book was great!
As an anxiety sufferer myself I found this book really interesting and informative. I have read a lot of books on this topic, but this has got to be up there as one of my favs!
It is broken down into small concise sections, and the writing style is very easy to read and understand. The author Dr Rachel Allan has worked hard to write a book that still has all the facts, information and science - but makes it super readable and easy to digest too.
I really liked the reading experience, and learnt a lot too. I would recommend this for friends and family members of an anxiety sufferer who want to understand it a bit better. But also for the anxiety sufferers themselves.
This book needs more buzz and more hype! This book will help a lot of people!! Thank you Dr Allan!!
As someone who has suffered with anxiety in the past and present, this informative and educational nonfiction book really helped me in understanding my diagnosis better.
The “How To Help” parts are simple and easy to follow without overloading the reader with lots of medical terminology making this a book perfect to share and read by all.
This could also be used for awareness purposes. People are often taught how to do first aid if it’s ever needed and this book explains clearly and precisely how anyone can help someone suffering with anxiety and/or anxiety attacks.
It would be great for anxiety to be discussed more openly at home, at work and in schools and this book would be a great starting point.
Highly recommended to everyone…society needs this book!
