This has everything you want in a romance novel; a secret relationship, a hot musician who can also fix things and lots of steamy scenes. And yes, one that involves ice cream.
I like the whole brother’s best friend and little sister trope. There’s something really sweet about it. Wyatt’s this huge playboy and of course, not anyone’s first choice for their little sister. But Andie has been in love with Wyatt since childhood. The story is told with dual povs so we see that Wyatt’s feels the same way about Andie and has struggled with not acting on his feelings in order to keep his promise to Andie’a older brother and his best friend.
Anyway, it’s a cute story with lots of steam. If that’s your flavor, definitely give this a try!
Andie Lockhart and Wyatt King grew up together and have harbored hidden feelings for each other but because of Andie’s brother, Josh which is also Wyatt’s bestfriend, prevented them from admitting their feelings. The author was able to give good side characters and a story that feels very realistic. My Cone and Only shows complicated family relationship, friendship, and following ones dream.
It’s a good story and I actually enjoyed it. There were a lot of steamy scenes so if you’re looking for a book with good steamy scenes you should read this and I love how you can actually feel Wyatt’s love for Andie ugh melts my heart but I did have a few concerns along the way. While I liked the story, I didn’t feel any connection with Andie, she didn’t have any depth for me. Some steamy scenes felt rushed and forced like when a character says “you’re mine” in playful, seductive way I expect to feel something. I also noticed that certain informations were repetitive but overall a good story and definitely something to check out! Looking forward to the next book!
Wow! First book by this author and I was HOOKED from the very beginning! Wyatt and Andie are SO easy to love and root for. The pining and the longing turns into passion and tenderness and it truly made my heart SOAR. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!
4 stars
What a fun read! Although this romance has very little to do with ice cream as the title and book cover suggest, I still thoroughly enjoyed the banter and chemistry between Wyatt and Andie. The secret yearning trope has always been one of my favorites, and add in the life long friendship between the two main characters and you have a love story just waiting to blossom!
I am quite the sucker for contemporary romance, and My Cone and Only definitely checked off a lot of what I look for in the genre. That being said, the only off putting thing in the story for me was the overly childish mindset that Wyatt often had. Susannah Nix definitely helps us understand more about how his background shaped his present as the story goes on, but it still stuck with me how selfish his behavior was even whilst rooting for him to get his happily ever after. I guess I was just hoping for more character growth, and a longer, drawn out resolution because they are always more satisfying that way.
My Cone and Only is released today and I highly recommend everyone give it a shot if you’re looking for a small town, feel good romance with a heavy focus on the importance of family and loyalty!
Unfortunately I did not end up enjoying this one. I didn’t like the pacing, I found the characters quite annoying and unlikable and the actual plot was predictable and cheesy. The story had potential but did not end up meeting my expectations.
What a treat this Forbidden Friends to Lovers Rom-Com is! It’s a super well-written and fun to read book with charismatic and well-developed characters, great smut scenes (❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥), and fantastic family dynamics, which added depth to the storyline. Andie and Wyatt are such a cute pair and watching their relationship develop was such a joy, I loved every minute of this read! The small town Hallmark vibes in this story are what made it so enjoyable! My only dislike was Andie’s brother being so possessive and protective over her, while I completely understand - in my opinion, he was a rather selfish character. This is the first book in The King Family series, and I look forward to reading more in the future!
If you enjoy Forbidden love and Friends to lovers tropes that are light-hearted and fun to read - this one is for you!!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Andie and Wyatt had a friends turned more thing from the start. They had the brother's bff/bff's little sister thing going on. Mix in an ice cream plot and you have a winner!!
Whilst Wyatt was always thankful for his friendship with Josh, he was more so after the loss of his mother when he was just nine years old. Despite having a sibling and a host of half-siblings he has felt more at home with Josh’s parents, Aunt Birdie and his younger sister Andie. Having grown up virtually together he has always looked out for Andie. Although since he was seventeen, it hasn’t been the brotherly love that he has felt towards her. But having made a promise to Josh not to hurt his sister he has attempted to keep his feelings at bay.
Andie can always feel when Wyatt is nearby, he’s a flirt and a ladies man – and also her brother's best friend who only sees her as a surrogate sister. Having loved him from afar for so long she wonders if now is the time to cross the line. Especially when Wyatt comes to her rescue again, this time helping with outstanding home repairs and maintenance on the house she inherited from her grandmother.
Crossing the line and sharing their mutual feelings towards each other they make the most of Wyatt’s extra time spent at the house. Fearing what Josh will say about their relationship Wyatt convinces Andie to keep things secret for the time being. Although this does offer an additional level of risk and fun, Andie doesn’t;t want to hide in the shadows as Wyatt showcases his music. Are they ever able to share their love for each other publicly? Or is Wyatt too worried about breaking his promise to his best friend?
This was a really fun and addicting read. I can see myself going back to this title to re-read. I also plan to check out the sequel in the companion series.
Pros:
- Great chemistry between the leads, Andie and Wyatt. The tension between them was present in every scene with them together.
- I loved that the couple felt like friends first before anything else and you knew there was history between them without having to read about it.
- The smut scenes were really good. Sometimes I feel like authors go there without actually going there and the ones written in the book were great
- There was also a degree of angst that was present in the book that I enjoyed.
- I loved the focus on family, whether that be Wyatt's dysfunctional relationship with his family, or Andie's relationship with her brother and learning more about her grandparents relationship.
Cons:
- The reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because I feel like I've read it before or at least a variation of it. There's nothing wrong with repeating and re-reading the same tropes, I just usually need something a little extra in order to really love a story that I've read some variation of before.
This book is great when it if your looking for a fun Romance to pick up. Although if you are an avid romance reader, you might not be completely enraptured by this.
4.5
OH MY GOD! I honestly don’t even know where to start with this.
I randomly found this book on NetGalley and got so excited about it that I knew I had to request for getting an ARC. Mind you, I went into this totally without expectations and what a delightful surprise it was!
Since the very beginning of the story I was hooked, loving every second of this mutual pining that I so adore in romances. All this angst of them both thinking their love in unrequited, PLUS them being friends since childhood? Please… GIMME!
This book was so fun and I enjoyed every second of it. The characters were so special in their own way and I loved every little thing about this universe. Andie and Wyatt were obviously so so cute, and as an obsessed with “it’s always been you” stories this one was a perfect example of why it’s so good. I was also so entertained with every scene between the King Family and I kept hoping for more and more, making me so excited to learn more about them in future books.
The only reason this isn’t a 5 star book is because despite enjoying the ‘brother’s best friend’ trope, when the brother is overly protective and possessive over his adult sister kinda bugs me and I don’t enjoy it reading that much. Specially in this, when he kept showing how unprovable he was towards Wyatt and Andie even when they were both grown adults. This was just a little part that I particularly didn’t love so much but it had little effect on how much I adored the book as a whole.
AND I can’t wait to read Tanner and Lucy’s story next! This is now, for sure, a book series I’m going to keep looking forward to all of its books.
What kind of a pyscho doesn’t like ice cream?
This sweet romcom has a little bit of everything from steamy bedroom scenes to family drama. It was a fast paced and an easy read. Making this a perfect summer read.
Wyatt is the sexy tattooed playboy of the town. Andie is intelligent, tough and beautiful. She is also Wyatts best-friends little sister.
I’ll be honest, the “forbidden brother’s best-friend romance” trope is whatever to me because I don’t understand why its anyone’s business who you swipe left on, sleep with or date. However, Wyatt and Andie’s relationship and chemistry was so well written, I couldn't put this book down. Susannah Nix did an excellent job.
How to write an adorably swoon worthy romance. Step 1: Make the main character fall in love with his best friends little sister, but make him noble enough to never act on his feelings. Step 2: Make the previously mentioned little sister hopelessly in love with her brother’s best friend, but make her completely oblivious to his feelings. Step 3: Put both of these love sick characters in a situation that suddenly brings all of their feelings and repressed hormones to light. Step 4: Throw in a decent amount of conflict that tests them both.
I loved Wyatt and Andie’s story. They were friends and close enough to be family, until one day, their feelings (and actions) were anything but family oriented. I was rooting for their happy ending, even when I thought Wyatt was being an unreasonable ass. Andie knew exactly what she wanted from Wyatt from the get go, but Wyatt let his fears override his better judgement and forced Andie into a situation, that honestly, I thought she was too good for. Luckily, Wyatt wasn’t a complete moron and eventually saw the error of his ways. He was able to see how good things could be when he didn’t let fear rule his decision making. Good things come to those who believe in themselves and the love they receive from the people that matter most.
4.5 - I absolutely LOVED this friends to lovers, forbidden romance between Andie and her brother's best friend Wyatt. I am slow to the Susannah Nix party but I couldn't resist her new series about a family of ice cream makers. Wyatt is the family screw-up, scared to take a chance on love and his musical ambitions. When he finally takes the plunge and admits his feelings to his best friend's sister the sparks fly. This one has some steamy open door scenes so be warned if that's not your thing (I was 100% there for them). I can't wait for the next installment of this new series coming early 2022. Highly recommended for fans of Penny Reid and Abby Jimenez. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced review copy!
I've really enjoyed reading Susannah Nix's books in the past, and I absolutely LOVED her Chemistry Lessons series. I was delighted to read My Cone and Only, which is the first book in her new King Family series which will feature the King siblings and King Creamery Ice Cream. This book was a fun, delightful, and easy read and I loved it!
I really enjoy the friends to lovers and brother's best friend tropes in romance, and this one was no exception. Wyatt and Andie have always been friends AND have always harbored secret feelings for each other. The only problem is that Wyatt happens to be best friends with Andie's older brother and made a promise to not get involved. I loved having the dual POV of Wyatt and Annie, and Andie's character was an absolute delight. I love the way Susannah Nix writes smart women in her romance! Andie and Wyatt's relationship was so sweet and I felt that there was a perfect amount of tension and build-up written into their story. The chemistry when the two characters got together was sizzling. I thought that all of the external pressures on the characters added to the story. I can't wait to see what's coming for the other King siblings that were introduced in My Cone and Only. If you're a romance fan, pick this one up!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this title, which did not affect the contents of my review. All opinions are honest and my own.

This is my very first book by Susannah Nix but it certainly will not be my last. If you enjoy a relatively light and easy read, the brother’s best friend trope and some steamy open door romance then 𝘔𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘖𝘯𝘭𝘺 should be on your Summer 2021 must read list.
Talk about steamy. Andie Lockhart and Wyatt King have secretly loved each other since high school ... the only issue is neither of them knows how the other feels. Wyatt being the best friend of Andie's older brother Josh knows she is off limits and swore to his friend years ago he wouldn't mess with her. For good reason, you see Wyatt has a bit of a reputation as a ladies man, he knows how to work the room and and often leaves with a new girl on his arm. Wyatt comes from a big family and much like a Hallmark movie they employ most of the population of the small town he calls home. However, he has aspirations and dreams of his own and never really was one to fall in line and do as his father told him.
Andie works for the state park and wildlife department as a resources specialist and isn't much of a girly girl. After she inherited her grandmothers house and her parents moved away it has just been her, her brother Josh, their aunt Birdie and Josh's best friend Wyatt. Actually she'd spent a lot of time with her brother and Wyatt over the years and while she hasn't been able to recover from her high school crush she is convinced Wyatt sees her more as a little sister than a potential love interest.
Things really start to turn around when Andie runs into some trouble with her HOA and calls Wyatt for help. 𝘔𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘖𝘯𝘭𝘺 may sound like your run of the mill brother’s best friend trope however author Susannah Nix adds so many layers to her characters and has build the MCs relationship on such a strong foundation of friendship and mutual respect for Josh. Andie is portrayed as a strong independent woman and I quickly found myself rooting for her to find "the one". Wyatt took quite a while to grow on me but there is so much to his story and as the author peels back the layers of this character you really start to fall for him. There is just one (OK maybe a few) things standing in their way. At the end of the day will Andie and Wyatt risk it all for love or will Josh get his way?
One last note; I really appreciated the author including a trigger warning about the mentions of cancer and past death of a parent/sibling at the beginning of this book.
My Cone and Only is the first book in an incoming series by Susannah Nix sure to get your heartstrings tangled up and have you vying for the next book in the series the minute you finish this one!
This deliciously puny titled novel takes us to Crowder, Texas a little town home to one of the US’ best ice cream company King’s Creamery. Each novel will follow one of the many King siblings on their journey to find love. My Cone and Only follows Wyatt King and Andie Lockhart on a very well written friends to lovers / forbidden romance story, perfect for any reader looking for a sweet and steamy romance with a little drama thrown in. *wink, wink*
My Cone and Only will be released this Tuesday, July 20th, be sure to preorder your copy today!!
Thank you Netgalley and Haver Street Press for access to the advanced reader copy of My Cone and Only in exchange for an honest review!
My Cone and Only was my first read by author Susannah Nix. I normally do not gravitate towards friends-to-lovers romances but am a sucker for brother’s best friend forbidden ones. This book is a very good mix of the two tropes. I found myself entertained by the two main characters and the relationship they had with each other. Wyatt is a player - he is every woman’s kryptonite. But underneath his playboy image is a broken man pining for the woman who unknowingly owns his heart.. Andie is an incredible woman. She is strong and fierce and madly in love with Wyatt. I liked how strong she was and determined to get her man. When finally they give into their feelings, it is hot. Unfortunately their circumstances are not ideal and it takes a swift kick in the butt to get their happily ever after. My Cone and Only gets the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval and has me looking forward to the next book in the series. TBR and Enjoy!
Wyatt King has been in love with Andi Lockhart since he was 17 - too bad she is the little sister of his best friend, therefore off limits.
Andi Lockhart has been in love with Wyatt King since she can remember - too bad he is a man whore and he will never see her as anything but his best friends little sister.
Now Andi needs Wyatt’s help. A developer is threatening legal action and demanding she fix her home to standards, can handy man Wyatt save the day? And will spending all this time together be the catalyst for sharing their mutual attraction?
This is the first in a series about the King family. I will certainly be reading the next books.
Thank you to Netgalley, publishers and the author for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book, the chemistry between the two protagonists was great and I love that we got to explore both sides with including both POV’s. And *that* scene was WOW.
I love that the brother spoke openly about talking to a therapist which is something that needs to be normalised (I wish this was delved into more!)
Who doesn’t love the whole brothers best friend trope! With this trope you know there is going to be tons of pining and drama but, what comes with that, is also predictability.
You can usually always predict what is going to happen in this trope and this book was no exception and unfortunately meant I felt the book was missing something due to it being like others I’ve read before.
So while being predictable, it was still an enjoyable read.
I loved this book! The characters were super cute and I loved the plot. I found the book to be a little graphic at times, but I really did enjoy the romance between the characters. I am also super excited that this book is the first one in the series! I can not wait to read the others. Overall, I loved this book and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
