Christy and Alix have spent Christmas together since they were eight years old and they were more like sisters than friends until Christy met Seb and they got married when Christy found herself pregnant with Holly. Since then the friendship has been a little strained but who is causing the problems or are they all hiding somethings even from themselves.
I enjoyed this book with true to life characters that the more you pages you read the more you want to know what is going to happen. A book of relationships, friendship and family which come together at Christmas. Well worth a read.
I was offered an ARC of this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve been having a rough couple of weeks so I needed something light and fluffy, added points if it was festive. On the whole this book delivered on all 3 points, Lapland at Christmas sounds like a dream, and it all just seemed so magical. Unfortunately I didn’t like many of the characters. Christy stressed me out with her whole perfectionism, and Alix seemed to have an amazing talent for making everything about her
So festive and lovely! This was an easy, heart warming tale of friendship, family, love and the complexity of relationships. I really enjoyed the characters, the descriptions of the scenery have made me want to book a trip! What could be more Christmas-y than a story set in Lapland - it’s definitely got me in the festive spirit!
Another great Christmas book from Sarah Morgan! Nothing unexpected or unpredictable, which is sometimes just what we need. Lovely festive descriptions and a seasonal atmosphere set in the beautiful Arctic circle.
What a lovely book. I really love Sarah's books. I've enjoyed them since I read Sleigh Bells in the Snow.
It was nice to have a Christmas book with a child as one of the main focuses as children always make Christmas magical.
Some lovely snowy Christmas scenes too. My ideal book!
Thank you Sarah and Netgalley.
Christmas in Lapland what more could you want. A great Christmas romantic read.
Christy and her husband Seb plan to take their four year old daughter Holly to Lapland to meet Christy`s estranged aunt who lives there with her husband and runs a hotel with log cabins and runs sledge rides to see the Aurora Borealis.
Just before going Seb has an interview so Christy`s best friend Alix takes Holly to Lapland a few days before them unknown that Seb has arranged his best friend Zack to go with them.
You know what is going to happen to Alix and Zack but the journey is fun on the way.
Family secrets are unravelled on the way.
The description of the cabin and Lapland is fantastic you just want to go there, in fact I looked up holidays there as soon as I finished, unfortunately too expensive for me. The only thing that bothered me was Christy and Seb had a cottage they could not afford to mend the leaks in the roof but could afford the holiday to Lapland, though they did find money to repair things while they were away.
Would definitely recommend this book for a nice cosy Christmas read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I’ve never read any of Sarah Morgan’s books before but I’ll definitely will be now. Although it was a slow burner for me and I did think I wasn’t going to enjoy it, however I was hooked by chapter 3 and I found myself racing through it just to find out what happened but by chapter 19 I had that dreading feeling knowing it was coming to an end!
The book was full of twists and turns for me and the main characters (the two I thought actually weren’t!) I was transported to Lapland and sipping hot coca under the northern lights with the dogs. It kept me gripped on the edge of my seat wanting to know every detail of what was about to happen between Christy and Seb, Alix and Zac and what had happened between Christys mum and her aunt Robyn.
I throughly enjoyed reading the Christmas escape and hoping there is a sequel to it!! I really need to know what happens between Alix and Zac. What will happen to Christy and Seb, did he get the job? Could the cottage be repaired?
Would definitely recommend everyone to read The Christmas Escape ❤️
Another gorgeous heart warming read from Sarah Morgan, what's not to like about a Christmassy tale set in Lapland, made me yearn to stay in one of those fantastic lodges.
A perfect tale to curl up & read on a snowy winter day.
Thank you for the chance to read
Nice book to get you in the mood for Christmas and what could be more romantic than snowy Lapland. I loved the descriptions of the scenery, the chalets, the Northern Lights ... made me want to book a trip!
Although it's a romance book it's also a story of friendship, family and how relationships change over time and it's wonderfully written
Perfect book to curl up on the couch with coffee and cake for a little Fika!
Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the ARC
Get ready for a festive delight as Sarah Morgan transports you to Lapland this Christmas with her new release, The Christmas Escape.
Christy Sullivan and her best friend Alix have long dreamed of spending Christmas in Lapland. And with a holiday booked together, alongside Christy's husband, Seb, and her four-year-old daughter, Holly, it should be a dream come true.
But when Seb announces he will miss the start of their holiday, Christy stays behind for make-or-break discussions about her marriage.
Alix, meanwhile, is left to look after Holly alongside Seb's best friend, Zac. The two have a history that Alix would rather forget, but with holiday magic in the air, and Zac not quite on the same page with regards to their relationship, will romance blossom for Alix?
With love and friendship on the line, and secrets to be revealed, can the group save their relationships? And will the wonder of the Northern Lights allow them to have the Christmas they dream of?
There are quite a few aspects to The Christmas Escape. It's not simply a romance, although there is a romantic element; but it's a book that focuses on relationships in general, whether that's friendship or a romantic relationship. The Christmas Escape highlights the importance of communication in all areas of life. And I admit, I did at times struggle with Alix as she seemed a little judgemental and selfish, whilst Christy's constant planning and list making was a bit frustrating, but again that just shows that none of us are perfect and we all have our flaws. However, The Christmas Escape is a book with heart and warmth, and it grabs the reader instantly.
Sarah Morgan manages to paint a delightful picture of Swedish Lapland, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who will want to visit! Who wouldn't want dog sled rides in the snow, or to see the aurora? And as for the snow spa, sign me up!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Christmas Escape and would definitely recommend it. Curl up this winter with a great book, you won't regret it. Four festive stars ❄❄❄❄
The Christmas Escape is released on 21st October and is available to pre-order now.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQStories for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Christmas Escape is a warm, satisfying read with just enough elements of Christmas to get you in the mood for the festive season.
Although romantic, this book is about all relationships. The friendship between two of the main characters, best friends Christy and Alix, is as important as the romantic relationships. I also liked the way the impact of parents and upbringing was linked to adult behaviours, alongside the story of the estranged aunt, Robyn, and how a mistake can have repercussions for a whole family's relationship.
The settings for the book were beautiful. From Christy and Seb's damp, cosy thatched cottage to the Northern Lights and Christmas in Lapland.
I defy anyone not to say they want to spend Christmas at the Snow Spa in Lapland after reading this book!
I love Sarah Morgans books especially the Christmas ones and this years The Christmas Escape is such a gorgeous romance story that it was a joy to read.
When Christy gets an unexpected invite from long lost Aunt Robyn to spend Christmas with her and her husband Erik at their spectacular home in Lapland, she is a little apprehensive to say the least as Christys late mother Elizabeth had not been on speaking terms with Robyn for years. Visiting Lapland has been a dream of Christy and her childhood friend Alix so arrangements are made for Christy, her husband Seb , their daughter Holly and their friends Alix and Zac to spend Christmas there.
Circumstances change so it is up to the warring Alix and Zac to take charge of the very excitable Holly and go on ahead. Many communication breakdowns lead to misunderstandings in this story, but the beautiful Artic landscape is the perfect setting to right family and friends relationships along with the winter activities that throw them all together.
My thanks to Net Galley and HQ for the digital advanced copy of this delightful festive read.
The Christmas Escape is told in third person with three different POV’s- Alix, Christy and Robyn. Robyn is Christy’s aunt and lives in Lapland, Christy is suffering in her marriage with Seb and Alix has a history with Zac. I had to stop reading this book at 21 percent. I was bored and it is probably not for my age bracket, it is definitely not a bad book but just not for me. The writing is very good though.
Christy and Seb are taking their young daughter Holly to Lapland for Christmas to visit Christy's estranged aunt . When Seb starts acting strangely and tells Christy he can't go with them and will be a few days late in arriving Christy wonders what's happening with their marriage.
Christy's best friend Alix is asked to take Holly to Lapland on her own so Christy can stay with Seb and mend her marriage. Alix soon finds out she won't be going just with Holly and is horrified when she finds out who her travelling partner is.
What a lovely story. The descriptions of the cabins and surrounding area in Lapland were just amazing. I felt I could feel the icy cold and smell the hot chocolate.
The thought of taking a dog sledge at night to watch the Northern Lights made me want to jump on a plane and go there.
Love, families, trust are all parts that go together and make this book so readable, along with the gorgeous snowy surroundings. I loved it.
I really enjoyed the Christmas feel of this book. The descriptions of Lapland really brought it to life for me - I would love to visit! The story was well-written and had lots of different strands - family, friendships, love and old secrets and betrayals. More than just a nice cosy Christmas read - it was a great book.
Although this book is set at Christmas and the location Lapland, this book is more about relationships. It could have been set at anytime of the year. A quite inciteful book that examines all the relationships between the main characters in some depth. Easy to read and a charming story.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the advance copy of this book.
Another fantastic book by Sarah Morgan.
Although this book was set at Christmas time it wasn’t overly Christmassy which may seem like a complaint but it isn’t. It still made me feel festive but it wasn’t over the top. Of all the characters I liked Zac and Alix most. The other characters were great I just really felt like I could be friends with the other 2. Sarah’s books are so good, you finish reading them, look up and realise you’ve been lost in another world for hours.
Christy Sullivan and her best friend Alix had dreamed of going to Lapland for Christmas since they were young girls. Finally this year Christy’s dream has come true. She is going to Swedish Lapland with Alix and two more really important members of her family; her husband Seb and her very excited six-year-old daughter Holly. They are going to stay in Lodges in a resort that is owned by her Aunt Robyn and her husband Erik. Amongst their planned activities are seeing the Northern lights, taking a ride driven by a team of huskies and at last meeting Robyn whom she has never met, but who is her Mother’s sister. The days can’t pass quickly enough for her. It is her dream come true and Alix will be with her family.
Alix was also looking forward to her Christmas holiday. She is as yet unmarried and is totally dedicated to her work, but the tingle of excitement crawls down her neck as she starts to get ready to travel. When the phone rang she saw it was Christy so her excitement doubled, but not for long, because Christie and Seb are no longer able to fly to Sweden as planned. Christy has called to ask a huge favour of Alix, she wants her to take Holly on ahead. She tells her that they would definitely be there for Christmas. Alix adores Holly and understands what a difficult decision it must have been for Holly’s parents to miss this early part of their holiday. She agrees to Christy’s plans with a tinge of alarm. She reasons something very important must have happened to delay Holly’s parents from their family holiday. Then she starts to worry in case anything goes wrong with Holly when she is in charge of her. She need not have worried on that account though because she soon finds out that Seb’s best friend Zac is also going to be travelling there with her to help out. She certainly isn’t happy about that, not one bit! She and Zac simple do not get on. Whatever are Christy and Seb thinking?
However she tries hard to make the most of the time she has with Holly who is so excited about the deep snow and the sled dogs. Zac is kind to her and helpful. Perhaps it is not such a bad idea after all. But when Kristy and Seb arrive at the resort two day later she senses that everything is far from alright and she is very worried about her good friends. As time goes by friendships are under scrutiny and Alix feels left out. She wants to know what is going on because she feels she can surely help make it right just like she always does.
I always love Sarah Morgan’s romantic and festive novels and this one is no exception. She writes beautiful stories filled with compassion and empathy. Her speciality is in sorting out problems and delivering solutions. Her storyboards are exceptional and filled with brilliantly crafted and diverse characters and adding plenty of action and excitement. Her settings are always idyllic and appealing. Sarah’s favoured genre is romances where problems are sorted out and the endings of her novels are joyful and endearing. It was a lovely, rewarding read.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from publisher HQ through my membership of NetGalley and I would like to thank them for my copy, sent out to me in return for an honest review. I really enjoyed this novel and award it a well-deserved 4.5* I recommend it as a very good read for the festive season; a novel that Santa may be delivering once again this year.
The Christmas Escape is a lovely cosy Christmassy read and the perfect book to curl up with on a cold night. It's romantic without being overly schmaltzy and I loved the relationships between all the characters.
Each of the characters were realistic which I really liked. So often in romance novels the main characters are so clichéd - the perfect heroine and the brooding hero - so I appreciated that the characters all had flaws and issues to work through. I also loved that the friendship between Alix and Christy was treated as important as the romantic relationships. It showed familial love and the love between friends can be just as impactful as romantic love.
The story was beautifully set and I could envisage Christy and Seb's damp but homely cottage as vividly as the Northern Lights described in the book. You couldn't ask for a more magical setting for a Christmas story than Lapland!
I really enjoyed this book. It's a change of pace to the books I've been reading and sometimes you just want to read a feel-good story without a depressing or ambiguous ending!
This is a really good Christmas read and the setting in the north of Sweden where the snow is deep and the Northern Lights are visible is so perfect that it re-awakened my bucket list dream of going there one day!
The story about severed family ties and childhood hurts extending way into adulthood is not uncommon in romantic literature, as is the ‘will she, won’t she’ of one of the main characters and the guy she thinks she dislikes!
In my opinion (and this probably says more about my personality than anything detrimental about the book) it was just too drawn out, for such a strong character to procrastinate so many times and be so afraid to even test the water, was too much for me.
The storyline for the main character with the severed family ties and her husband, I thought was nicely done, the downside of poor communication leading to assumptions and misconstrued beliefs was very realistic and I believe happens in lots of relationships! It’s not easy to be 100% straight and honest with yourself never mind your partner/husband.
For me it was a bit too sugary sweet and as I said too drawn out but around Christmas time, it would make a lovely read, if you are an out and out romantic, and that’s why I’ve given it only 3.5 stars
