What a brilliant holiday read, perfect for getting in the christmas spirit. Perfect for curling up on a cold winters day and getting lost in the intreague and excitement of it all. I thoroughly enjoyed it and love reading Sarah's Crhistmas novels, this one certainly didn't dissapoint!
I really enjoyed this book. Such a lovely Christmas read. It was perfect for snuggly up next to my Christmas tree with a mug of hot chocolate. I would love to hear more from these characters.
Perfect festive read that has made me want to go to see the Northern lights and have a snowy Christmas even more now!
This is the perfect Christmas read - fluffy - not too challenging - warm - funny and happy ending .... pass me another hot chocolate !
It's not Christmas until you read a Sally Morgan book! So get yourself comfy, cosy and get ready for another beautiful story from the queen of romance!
The background for this book was simply beautiful. The story contains the characters with their own flaws and emotional baggage. The book is filled with not only romance but friendships too and I was invested in the characters. This is another Christmas cracker by Sally Morgan.
I received this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
When Alix agrees to go on a magical trip to Lapland with her best friend Christy, and her young daughter, she doesn't end up thinking she will have to travel with the young child days ahead of her parents - in a bid to help their marriage - alongside Christy's husband's best friend - who Alix doesn't get on with. Soon sparks fly in the Lapland cottage but not all of them are bad. Meanwhile, Christy works to make things right with a husband she realises she never got time to know before parenthood rushed them off their feet.
This was a nice Christmas story with the added touch of the magic of Lapland, snow, sled dogs and the Northern Lights. I liked both sides of the story and I appreciated the problems worked through on either side - Alix's fear of commitment and real love, and Christy's need for control and how she lets it control her. I think I definitely preferred Alix's romantic plotline though I have to say I never understood why the guy was still so into her after literal years and they only knew each other from one brief night. It was slightly implausible.
Overall, a simple, nice story for Christmas time with a great theme of female friendship!
A throughly enjoyable Christmas tale that makes me want to spend Christmas at a cabin in the snow and see the Northern lights.
The Christmas Escape is the perfect Christmas escapism book. Sorry I could not help myself, I am just getting into the Christmas Spirit. But in all seriousness, this is the perfect, feel good Christmas book. And it is set in Sweden Lapland. Which sounds divine.
I loved the landscape, it felt like the perfect Christmas setting and one that I would love to experience.
The story is told from the perspectives of Christy, Alix and Robyn. Which made for interesting reading. Especially on bits of the story where each character clearly had a different perspective.
The Christmas Escape is a warm, cosy read, best enjoyed in front of a log fire and a steaming hot chocolate. Just the thought of it feels blissful.
A Christmas Wonderland!
The Christmas Escape is a tale of the relationships between couples, family & friends set against the beautiful, snowy backdrop of Lapland at Chistmas.
Having been to Lapland several years ago, the descriptions are superb & instantly transported me back. Unfortunately i didn't get to see the Northern Lights but I felt that I was witnessing them through the book and the experiences the characters were having. A magical Christmas tale, I loved it.
Best friends Christy and Alix have planned a Christmas trip to Lapland. Unfortunately, Christy's marriage is in trouble. She asks Alix to take her daughter to Lapland so that she and her husband can spend some time together to try and fix their marriage. Her husband also sends his friend Zac to accompany Alix. The two have a difficult pass so spending time together may be difficult.
There was a lot going on in this book and I never felt 100% invested in this story. I have read quite a few of Sarah Morgan's books but I didn't enjoy this one as much as previous ones that I have read. Overall this was an ok read for me but not a new favourite.
Set in Lapland at Christmas with an evocative cover, this book appeared so festive it was almost irresistible. At over 400 pages is seemed like the unwinding antidote to the Christmas stress I needed.
The story is about two female friends, one apparently happily married, (hastily so because of an imminent pregnancy) the other, a career-successful single friend who isn't keen on her friend's husband or his best man and friend. Both men are seriously buff and handsome, it ought to be said. The dream Christmas break was planned for the small, new family but something turns up preventing the couple from going straight away. So it's left to the two singletons to take the little girl to her dream destination.
There are secrets, relationship issues and dysfunctional family backgrounds to navigate. These are covered initially in a huge information dump and repeated frequently throughout, but despite the overdone exposition, the story beautifully depicts Lapland and is made even more alive with the little four-year old's excitement.
A delightful story about friendship, family and expectations with a sprinkle of merry seasonal charm. A cosy Christmas Escape indeed.
What is not to love at this time of year, Lapland, lodges and love in a variety of forms. A heartwarming festive read with a lovely host of characters.
I was drawn to this book because it is mostly set in Lapland - in an idyllic holiday lodge from where you can see the Aurora Borealis or go on a husky drawn sled ride. What a perfect setting for a Christmas light read.
I also was interested in how the main theme of family relationship breakdown would be treated. Two sisters fell out in the past which led to a total separation affecting also the next generations. In the book, the aunt is going to meet her now grown up niece for the first time in many years. There are problems also between husband and wife, and between two close friends who have maintained a friendship but allowed an emotional distance to threaten their connection. A christmas holiday in Lapland will bring many issues to a head.
So, much to look forward to and in some ways I was not disappointed. The relationship between the two woman friends was written about with understanding and humour, capturing the special way that women can be both intimate and secretive, allowing deep disclosure and sharing while sometimes covering up important truths. The insecurities and misunderstandings that can threaten closeness between people, men and women, women and women, adult and child, were depicted well.
So what disappointed me? There were things that seemed unlikely and hard to believe. The original sisterly argument wasn't credible. A life-long separation over a single incident? The husband and wife problems to do with her perfectionism and his fear of failure seemed too easily sorted out and tidied up. And my main problem with the book - the growing romance between Alix and Zac- was too predictable and too ‘good to be true’. He was handsome, emotionally literate and a great lover. She was screwed up, defensive and avoidant. But within the space of a few days in magical Lapland, dreams came true.
I know its a feel-good Christmas book and a romance but this last relationship stretched my credibility too much. And it was a shame because the characters were interesting and the theme of human relationships is always fascinating. Perhaps the male characters lacked the depth of the female ones which made those two relationships less credible?
However, in spite of the above, I enjoyed the book and the adventure into Lapland.
And I loved the extra surprise at the end, with the sledge!
A perfect festive romantic read, I really enjoyed escaping to the world of lapland. Likeable characters. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read your book.
The perfect Christmas book for cosy nights abd frosty mornings. The ideal mic of. Likeable characters and storyline. Perfect.
Has it even been Christmas if you haven’t lost yourself in @sarahmorganwrites latest Christmas novel. A tradition I’ve had for the last 3 years and here’s hoping there is another one on the horizon for next year 🎄🧑🎄🤶
Sarah Morgan gets better every year and does not disappoint in her latest festive book
In this instalment we have a family reunion, a troubled couple and friends with benefits. All spending Christmas together in Lapland.
Firstly. This book has made me want to spend every Christmas in Lapland. The husky’s, the snow, the food, the festive activities. Wow
This book is pure escapism and the perfect festive read
Grab a blanket a warm drink and shut the world out as Sarah transports you to the magical snowy lapland. This brought back many memories for me when we took our own daughter to Lapland at Christmas time. Such a beautiful magical setting for a story and give you such a warm Christmas glow. Love the friendship amongst the characters and honestly couldn't put this down!
If you're looking for the perfect romantic Christmas read, look no further. The Christmas Escape is exquisitely romantic, feel good and comforting for a rainy winter's day.
Best friends Christy and Alix have been as close as sisters since childhood. But recently there is a distance between them, with resentments unspoken and festering.
So a trip to Lapland to visit Christy's aunt might just be the chance to rebuild their friendship.
But with Christy's husband Seb having to delay his departure, Christy decides to stay with him, and asks Alix to go ahead with their daughter Holly. But not alone. Seb's best friend Zac will be joining them. And Alix has been avoiding him for 5 years. Ever since she tried to stop Christy marrying Seb.
As long held secrets and past traumas rise to the surface, it seems as though the magic of the Northern Lights is working on healing even the hardest of hearts.
Gloriously festive, beautifully written and immensely uplifting, I loved this book to bits.
It was supposed to be Christy Sullivan’s perfect Christmas getaway—a trip to Lapland with her family and best friend, Alix. But facing a make-or-break marriage crisis, Christy desperately needs time alone with her husband. Her solution? Alix can take Christy’s little daughter to Lapland, and they will reunite there for Christmas Day. It’s a big ask, but what else are friends for?
There’s nothing Alix won’t do for Christy. But Christy’s request to save Christmas is giving Alix sleepless nights. She knows something is wrong, but for the first time ever, Christy isn’t talking. And even the Arctic temperatures in Lapland aren’t enough to dampen the seriously inconvenient sizzle Alix is developing for Zac, a fellow guest and nemesis from her past.
As secrets unravel and unexpected romance shines under the northern lights, can Christy and Alix’s Christmas escape give them the courage to fight for the relationships they really want, and save the precious gift of each other’s friendship?
A great read to curl up with under a blanket and enjoy being transported to Lapland, with it's snow and reminders of what life used to be like.
A recommend read, hot chocolate, biscuits and a cosy blanket are perfect accompaniments to this book.
Yet again another lovely Sarah Morgan read. This one balanced family life with Christmas and festivities just right.
The Christmas Escape is a joyful, holiday read that is perfect for those of you who appreciate a bit more depth to your Christmas reads.
