This is one of those books that are read with tears in the eyes, a big smile on the lips and a cheerful heart.
Recommended not only to those who like dogs, but all lovers of animals of all kind.
Such a cute book! I love dogs so I knew I had to get my hands on this and I am glad I did. This book had a ton of cute little stories about all sorts of famous dogs and they were short and easy to understand for little ones. I read this stories to my dogs but I can't wait to get this for my little sister. She will love hearing the story of a new dog every night before bed. She will love the stories and get to learn as we go. I think other dog lovers young and old will adore this adorable short story collection.
Bella (7) really enjoyed this book, she was able to read it independently and found it easy to follow and engaging. She would recommend to her friends!
Super fun and easy read. As a dog mom to 4 fur babies I love stories about amazing canines. Dogs truly impact our lives with their unconditional love and silly antics. This book was heartwarming and fun to read. Loved hearing about all the amazing dogs and their human side kicks!
This is a lovely accessible book looking at the lives and actions of exceptional dogs throughout the world. The stories are varied, looking at dogs in conflict, assistance dogs, rescue dogs, explorers and actors. I learned a few things I didn't know and there was enough information on each dog for young readers to get a good feel for their achievements. One of the key aspects highlighted was loyalty, it's a thread that runs throughout the book and links into all the stories. The illustrations are nicely done, there's some top tips on looking after a puppy/dog at the back as well as further information. I really liked this and have already ordered stock for my libraries.

So much fun. A great family book I enjoyed reading with my two boys.
Dog Tales is a great non-fiction book with lots of stories about heroic, famous, incredible dogs. You can learn about Balto and Togo saving Nome or about Otto the skateboarding dog. These stories are short enough, that you can read some each day when you wake up or before going to bed. . This would be a great book for a dog lover of any age.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute children's nonfiction book filled with great stories that tell about how awesome dogs are and how much impact they can have of people's lives. One thing that could have made it better would be to have pictures of the actual dogs (if available). The stories are divided up into chapters titled "Incredible Journeys", "Hero Dogs", "Extraordinary Dogs", and "Talented Dogs". Each story is pretty short so this would make a great bedtime story book or one to read when you have a few minutes to sit down and read something quick.
This title would make an ideal gift for a child who loves canines. It includes engagingly illustrated stories of real and amazing dogs. The book is divided into sections including Incredible Journeys; Hero Dogs; Extraordinary Dogs; and Talented Dogs. There are also sections on caring for dogs and on further reading.
For example, in the section on Incredible Journeys, children can learn about Bells and Strelka who traveled in space. The hero section includes Ajax who saved lives by detecting a hidden bomb. Each entry is short and well-written. Again, I love the illustrations.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own
Okay so this may have been aimed predominantly at children, but I loved it. It was such a sweet, cute little book, but really informative.
I love all dogs - like most normal people. I have a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier/Dachshund cross who unfortunately hates all other dogs, so I can’t get a second dog, as much as I would like to. But whilst reading this I kept going “Oh I want that dog. No, I want that one. Oh and that one.” and on it went until the end. Honestly, if I was in charge, all the dogs would come and live with me. Probably a good thing I’m not in charge then I suppose.
I think this book is ideal for children wanting to know more about dogs. There’s about 3-4 pages for each dog chosen to be in this book, which I think is just enough to hold a child’s interest, but for them not to feel short changed. There were dog breeds in this book I’d never even heard of, and I feel we need to celebrate our canine friends more.
The only niggle I have - and that could be because I’m coming from an adult perspective - is that each chapter has an illustration of a dog, and I think it would be nice if there were real photographs too, so the child reading it could go out and identify the breeds in real life.
We all know what amazing things dogs like labradors and huskies and German shepherds can do, but it’s wonderful to see the websites snd the dachshunds playing their part too. I think this seemingly innocuous entertaining book could really inspire children to get involved in canine rescue and the like.
