Six women travel to the Greek Island of Aegos for Lexi’s Hen Weekend. What seems like paradise at the start turns into the opposite just a few days later. Told in alternating chapters by Lexi, Bella, Robyn, Eleanor, Ana, Fen, and an unknown narrator, we slowly learn each character’s background and the undercurrent that lies beneath the surface of their friendships.

The girls are not very likeable, which annoyed me a little bit as it made it hard to enjoy the story or get immersed in it. The plot was well thought out, it was the character development that let me down. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this tale of a group of girl friends who head out to a villa on a Greek island for a hen weekend. They are a bit of a mixed bunch and each chapter is told from the perspective of one of the girls. The story unfolds with some twists and turns and we come to realise that Ed, the groom to be, is maybe not the perfect catch after all. Each character in this story is interesting with their own story to tell and I enjoyed the way the book slowly revealed all their mysteries and secrets.

have selected some reads this summer based on their location! With the UK travel industry on its knees and my passport being out of date I’m stuck on home shores so relying on my fiction to spirit me away to distant lands!

6 women or rather ‘hens’ (I have to admit when this term was used I did sometimes look for the feathered variety), one Greek Island, a long weekend in the sun. Arriving at the villa to celebrate the impending marriage of Lexi to Ed, the women shuffle round each other. Old relationships and tensions are as uncomfortable as the inevitable sunburn and Bella’s tacky hen activities do little to bring them together. The heat is up and secrets are sizzling under the surface..not everyone is who they say they are, relationships are under tension..

You know when you go on holiday and the first few days are a little subdued. You haven’t found your favourite restaurant, you haven’t worked out that one outfit which is the only one you needed to bring and you haven’t worked out the other guests ..or the shower! This felt a little like that at the start..I wondered when it would really get going…and then it DID! WOW!

The story moves between the different characters and in between there are little teasers…we know right from the start that one person will not return alive.. and all the way through the story keeps you guessing as to who that will be!

Six women all with secrets and back stories..this had to be explosive and it was. As things began to come together I felt like I’d been standing on a net which is suddenly drawn in around you and you find yourself spinning in mid air. It was beyond tense!

I really enjoyed this! There were definite Big Little Lies vibes for me - a book which I adored. Oh and as to reading vicariously - I feel like I’ve been on holiday!!

This is the perfect holiday read wherever you get to this summer.

I’m thrilled to be closing out the blog tour for Lucy Clarke’s One of the Girls (published 26th May) today. My first experience of reading a Lucy Clarke book, was with The Blue (soon to make it to the screen), a book that was every bit as thrilling as One of the Girls.

As the novel starts, we’re already aware that someone won’t be leaving the idyllic Greek island of Aegos, but Lucy weaves the gripping story of who and why that is through the voices of our six main characters.

This group of very different women arrive on the island to enjoy Lexi’s Hen weekend, in a family villa organised by another of the party – already there is some complex history there, but does it come into play in the final act?

As the holiday nears its end, past betrayals, secrets and outright lies come to the fore and not only threaten the peace and quite of the island, but lead to murder.

Ooh! It’s very exciting!

The format of the book is excellent, as we hear from each of the women in short chapters that move the story along at a brisk pace, but also leave you guessing as to which bit of information we need to retain for later. Lucy Clarke deftly leaves clues in these chapters and in the short, introductory vignettes throughout the book and the pay off at the end is hugely rewarding.

Adding a personal note, some of these characters originate from Bournemouth – living just down the road, as I do, it’s great to have a somewhat local connection to the story – I can imagine exactly where Lucy describes in some instances so I think that always makes a book a bit more special.

Either way, this is a terrific thriller, showing a group of properly three-dimensional women, warts and all, and I’d highly recommend it.

Six very different women travel to a sun-soaked Greek island for a bachelorette trip, to celebrate Lexi’s upcoming wedding. From the glorious ocean views to the quaint tavernas and whitewashed streets, the vacation seems too good to be true. Someone is determined to make sure that Lexi’s marriage never happens, and that one of them doesn’t leave the island alive.

The Castaways has been on my shelf for ages but I’ve never got round to it. When I saw this added to NetGalley, I jumped at the chance to read it, especially as I thought it would be a great holiday read.

At first I was unsure about the multiple POVs, I like a dual POV but I thought having six would be too much. I’m pleased to say it worked perfectly, and the short chapters hooked me right in!

The setting of this book was absolutely perfect and made even better for me that I was reading it whilst being in Greece. It was so atmospheric and the pacing really worked for me. I think some people will think it was a bit slow but it was spot on for me as I appreciated the slow build up to the action.

I think it’s important to go into this book not expecting a twisty, shocking thriller as you won’t get that from it. There isn’t a huge amount of mystery to this one but what made it most compelling for me was the people. I was so invested in each and every character!

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It was a really easy, poolside read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys reading about the complexities of female friendships.

My favourite book of Lucy Clarke so far! I enjoyed the pacing of the book and the multiple points of views from each woman in the friendship group as it meant that the mysteries were slowly peeled back.

Some might say that none of the characters were likable, which I agree with. However, this isn't a negative for me at all as they were all interesting, and makes a great conversation starter in book clubs!

I will be recommending this book to my library customers and have already purchased several copies!

I really liked this! The plot was excellent and the characters were great. Very clever. BUT I really wish she hadn't peppered the text with little hints of the 'it was all about to go wrong...' 'little did we know X was about to...' variety. I skipped over all the sections in italics because they got in the way of the reader's immersion.

This is the second book I have read by this author and they are both deserving of their 5 stars. I absolutely loved it. It was a bit slow in the beginning but soon clicked into place. I loved all the characters and how their storylines tied together. Great ending that was totally unexpected and I didn’t see coming.

It spirited me away to warmer climes. It kept me right on the edge of my seat with so many twists and turns.

I love Lucy Clarke. Have to be honest, this wasn't my favourite book of hers, but I still enjoyed it a lot and really enjoyed the characters. There were a few too many at times, but I still thought it was a great idea and good premise!

One of the Girls is a holiday escape read. This book transports you to a Greek Island as you slip between the covers. Just do not expect a relaxing read. This intriguing tale looks at friendship, secrets and an emotional roller coaster ride when these secrets are revealed. This is a fabulous read that will keep you amazed as these close friends discover some deep secrets about each other.
Lucy Clarke draws stunning scenery in this book, allowing you to experience a sensory overload as you turn the pages. She includes, sounds and smells as well as beautiful visual scenery. I loved how clearly she described the setting. I had no problem “seeing” the villa in Greece. This was my first time reading any of Clarke’s books and I found myself escaping to the island while I was reading. I hope to find the time to read more of her books soon.

Lexi has a feeling something isn’t right, but nothing could have prepared her for what she is about to learn.
I loved the time I spent reading this book, reaching the last page I felt as if I was One of the Girls. The author truly transported me to Greece. I loved that I could smell the rosemary and oregano and hear the ocean breeze and feel the sun and salt on my skin as I turned the pages. All while snuggled up against winter days in South Africa. I have never visited Greece, yet after reading this book I feel as if I have been given a taste of what the country has to offer.
The women in this book were awesome. I enjoyed how Lexi was placed on a pedestal by everyone. Every friendship group has that one woman who seems to have it all, the power that holds the group together. However, Eleanor stole my heart. This woman has so much to learn about herself, she is different, and doesn’t quite fit in. Yet, she is strong and manages to speak her mind despite the loss she has suffered. She stood out, and I loved her.
This is a book I will always remember as an inspiration to visit Greece. I loved this brilliant read. It was full of surprises, and delivered a happy ending, despite a lot of secrets being revealed and friendships almost destroyed. The author highlighted the importance of friendship and second chances.
If you enjoy a scenic story full of secrets with a twist or two as the truth is revealed, then I highly recommend you add this title to your TBR. I promise you will find this page-turner everything you are looking for.

This was my first Lucy Clarke novel & I really enjoyed it.
This was like the location of Mamma Mia met the characters of Desperate housewives to give us the perfect blend of summery goodness mixed with a drama style psychological thriller.

It’s about six women setting away to the beautiful Greek islands for a weekend away celebrating Lexi’s Hen Party.

I absolutely adored reading this and it really helped me get through my reading slump this past 3 weeks, although I’ve been busy I have been picking this up every spare chance I get.

It’s told from multiple perspectives so you really get a feel for each of the women on the holiday, each of them have their own stories & secrets they are not willing to share to the group and the suspense of it all coming out gets higher and higher.

I did not see the twist at the end coming and I definitely let out a few gasps because I really thought my theory was correct & it couldn’t have been more wrong!

You always know that when you’re settling down to a book by Lucy Clarke, you’re going to be in for a bumpy ride and her latest book was exactly that. A rocky ship that’s not for the faint hearted.

Lexi never thought she’d get married but along came Ed and suddenly she’s got a ring on her finger and bursting to say ‘I do’. Along with her five friends, she goes to Greece for her hen weekend and looks forward to reminiscing, fun and adventures but instead is faced with lies, revelations and a dead body.

I absolutely loved this fast paced thriller, packed with unreliable and suspicious women that all had secrets or dramas going on in their lives. Outspoken and ballsy Bella, who’s the Maid of Honour has an unhealthy obsession with Lexi and wants to constantly be the centre of Lexi and everyone’s attention. Her girlfriend Fen is unsure of her feelings, whilst Eleanor, Lexi’s to be sister in law, is sad that she was unable to make it down the aisle due to the tragic death of her fiancé Sam. Robyn, Lexi and Bella’d childhood is dealing with the aftermath of a broken marriage and new born baby and Ana is adapting to her little boy becoming a surly teenager.

I loved the dynamics of this story, the conflict was rife and each snappy chapter was riddled with suspense. The different narratives made the story particularly gripping as all the women had a gripe with someone so that made the story even more thrilling as we wondered who the victim was and who killed them.

Set against the hot and heady backdrop of Greece, ‘One Of The Girls’ is an intoxicating thriller packed with twists, tension that makes for perfect poolside reading.

We were dying for a holiday. Locked mysteries are a favorite of mine and I can't resist them ever since I first read And then there were none by Agatha Christie years ago. There's just something so thrilling about trying to figure out who did what and how before it's all revealed.
This book, revolving around 6 women who travel to the Greek island of Aegos for a hen party at an isolated villa, is one of the best I have read in this genre.

I loved that the story was told from each of their perspectives, alternating, but with six distinct voices.
Lexi, the bride to be, talented, much loved, friendly, ecstatic to have found the wonderful Ed Tollock who makes her feel so cherished.
Bella and Robyn, childhood friends of Lexi and each other, with very different personalities; Bella is always the life of the party, laughing and looking for a good time, Robyn is the introspective, careful one who is now a newly divorced single mom of a toddler, pondering her choices and the fact that her life seems to be stuck in a rut
Fen is Bella's much quieter girlfriend, a personal trainer who loves hiking and the outdoors and has molded herself into a strong woman.
Eleanor is Ed's sister, mourning the tragic loss of her fiance weeks before their wedding and trying to find a way to move on.
Ana is Lexi's yoga friend; a single mom to a teenager who is unsure of whether it was a good idea to come on this trip with all the issues she is having with her son back home.

All six women bear secrets when they arrive at the island. As the wine flows and the celebrations start, so do the revelations. We know at the beginning what happened at the end of the hen party but how and to whom is what the story builds up to.

Sometimes it's easy to guess who is connected to what and the twists seem mundane but this one genuinely was unpredictable and that's what the best part about it was. I'm strangely happier when the book surprises me than when I can figure it all out myself! It's far more exciting that way!

What's also unique is the way female friendships and the need for connection has been beautifully portrayed in this book. This stands out even among the surprises and thriller elements. You realise thar what you see of a person at a particular moment isn't what defines them.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Will definitely look for more books by the author.

I had a feeling I was going to like One of the Girls – I loved Clarke's last book, The Castaways, and the synopsis of this sounded it was going to make for another great read. An exotic setting, girls on tour and an unexplained death – what’s not to like, and in fact I loved it from beginning to end!

The book follows Lexi and five of her friends as they travel to the Greek island of Aegos for a hen party to celebrate Lexi’s upcoming wedding. The setting is idyllic and they are all ready for a few days of fun in the sun. But as secrets and lies are uncovered, relationships are tested – and one person isn’t going to make it home at the end of the trip.

This proved to be the perfect summer read. The island of Aegos leapt off the page and made me long to get away, and what began as a bit of a slow-burn as we got to know all the women became a book that kept me turning the pages as the twists started coming and I was kept on the edge of my seat. The action is told in short sharp chapters from alternating view points and the more we get to know each of the women, the more intriguing it becomes. We learn about their past, their reasons for being on the holiday and the relationship dynamics between them as long-held secrets begin to surface, as do unexpected connections amongst the group. The six very different women all felt very real, as did the tensions amongst them (in my experience girls’ holidays are never without their complications in some shape or form!) and they all had their part to play in the unfolding drama that kept me guessing right to its clever and wholly satisfying ending.

If you are looking for the perfect fun summer read that you won’t want to put down then I recommend you put this on your list – I don’t think you will be disappointed.

This is the first Lucy Clarke book I've read. As soon as I finished it, I purchased two more, one of which I've nearly finished and it's just as good. I loved 'One of the Girls' so much. The way in which you come to know each one of them, and one minute your rooting for one, and then the next minute the next. They all had their own story and issues, and these impacted on their decisions and friendships with each other. This book is a mixture of suspense, intrigue and relationships between friends, or sometimes frenemies. I don't like to give anything away when writing reviews, I will just say the ending was unexpected and brilliant.

I loved this! Six friends arrive in idyllic Greece for a hen weekend , the setting was so inviting and sounded like the perfect place for a getaway! Sounds like the start of a great holiday right? ... wrong! Every single one of the girls has a secret .. we hear from each of them and I must say Lucy Clarke did a fantastic job with the 6 narrators. We really get to know each of the characters and hear their stories. It's very cleverly written, well paced and with so many characters, each with their own secrets, lies and motivations you definitely can't predict the twists and turns in this fast paced thriller!
