Different kind of book about a death cleaner called Grace whose job is to clean up after a person has been dead for a while undiscovered. Grace talks you through every job which has twists and turns and funny as she goes home every night to a cat called George who she talks to.
This book keeps you gripped and I would recommend.

Bemusing, quirky and so many different aspects to this book. We enter the mind of a single woman in her 30s who has the rather unusual job of cleaning up properties after someone has lain dead and undiscovered in them for weeks or months. She leads us through her sad and rather unpleasant job and the various stages of cleansing and cleaning, she also gives us insight and sympathy for the poor souls who are so lonely that it led to them being undiscovered for so long. She also tells us about her unusual hobby of recreating the room where they passed in miniature. At this point I saw her as one of life’s eccentrics and had a quiet admiration for her individuality but that changed as the story progressed.
The storyline running parallel is of a young girl who went missing in the 1960s whilst holidaying with two friends and as the book progresses these two storylines emerge. I feel the voice of the book expertly lets us more into her secret world as she feels she is getting to know us and can trust us with her darker secrets and the way she introduces us to these is chilling as she parts with them so gradually and in such a matter of fact way. This was reminiscent of the Diary of an Introvert series, which I also thoroughly enjoyed. I finished the book quickly as I enjoyed the twists and turns so much. I’ve come out of the other side, feeling confused, bemused and uncertain of whether I like the main character or not but that is all credit to the author in the expertise in evoking these feelings of confusion. Completely brilliant and enjoyable very narrowly missed a 5 star rating for me, maybe 4.9 overall. Recommend.

Grace is a death cleaner. This is something I’ve not heard of previously so instantly my interest was attracted to this as a book I knew I had to read. This is a book which grabs your attention and pulls you in quickly.

This is unique, interesting and addictive. I have found myself hooked quickly and unwilling to put this book down. I have been fully invested. There are many twists and turns in this book. From the deaths to the thoughts we find out about- this is just fantastic.

This is a book that will provoke emotions as you read, especially when there are bodies which have been undiscovered. This is something that I’ve found myself being emotionally invested in which I didn’t think I would be.

Robertson is a new author for me and I can safely say I haven’t been disappointed by this one. I have been transported to Glasgow as I’ve followed Grace on the journey throughout this. She has been a special character who I have loved. I am definitely keen to read more by this author. This is a must for the TBR.

A really strange but thoroughly addictive read. The story follows Grace McGill who has the profession of being a forensic cleaner. Simply put she attends properties where a person has passed away and lay undetected for, in some cases, many months . She cleans, decontaminates and clears the properties of belongings.

After cleaning a property where elderly Tommy Agnew has lay for some considerable time, Grace becomes intrigued by some of his personal belongings and sets out to find out more about him, leading her on a dark path of secrets that many would prefer to be left alone.

There were twists in the tale which had me rereading sections to ensure I had read right. Overall it is a good read with a quirky feel to it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Grace has one of those jobs that few aspire to. But it is one that she, well kinda, enjoys. She lives alone with only her cat for company and doesn't really interact with, well, anyone. In fact, she actually seems to care more for the dead than the living, which isn't a bad thing when she runs her own business as a professional death cleaner. What's one of those? I hear you cry. Well, she is the one they call when someone has died alone in their home and been left a while. You get the picture! But, on occasion, she does more than just clean. She is quite reverent in her actions. And then there's the dioramas she makes which brings her a bit too much publicity. But then, one of her clients sticks in her head beyond her just cleaning up. There's something about him and his death that she just can't move on from. Especially when she starts to rummage through his drawers and finds a photo and some news articles...
This was a strange book for me and one that I actually enjoyed despite all the blood and guts and gore all spelled out in minute detail by Grace. It's a bit of a slow burner as there is quite a lot to set up. More than you realise once we get over the brow of the hill and it all starts to come together.
It's very character driven in nature, with Grace basically hogging the limelight all the way through. But despite her hermit like existence, she manages this extremely well. Even when she describes her job, there is something quite captivating about her. Spoilers prevent me from waxing lyrical about her too much but you'll get what I mean when you read the book.
This was a book that kept on giving. Just when I thought I was sure of the direction it was going in, the author threw me such a brilliant curve ball that I had to stop a moment and take stock of what I had just read and the implications... It's been a while since I was that floored.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Death is not the end.
For Grace McGill, it's only the beginning.
When people die alone and undiscovered, it's her job to clean up what's left behind - whether it's clutter, bodily remains or dark secrets.

Wow! What an original gruesome plot for a book, and what a book! It had me hooked from page one and I was so engrossed I read it in one sitting, reading into the early hours because every time I tried to put it down I was thinking about it and had to pick it up again.
If you are looking for a thriller with a dark difference then this book is for you.
Highly recommended, 5 stars!

This is a book I would recommend, however, with the addendum to ‘stick with it’

A sad story of undiscovered bodies of lonely people, forgotten by society, friends and family, who have been left decompose for months before being found. We have all heard and read about similar sad cases. Grace cleans up after the forensic team and police have left and takes an interest in these poor lonely souls. The story continues in this vein and then

BANG

it’s the OMG moment and suddenly the book changes pace

This is a very good read and I am happy to recommend it

With thanks to NetGalley and Hachette UK for ARC in return for an honest review

Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review.

Grace cleans up places after people have died and been there awhile. It is a lonely and quiet job that everyone wants someone to do, but doesn't actually want to know who does it. When she cleans Tommy's apartment she thinks there is a story there. She needs to find it out, so she attends his funeral and lies to friends that actually show up. Something happened between the men along time ago. Grace means to find out.

When another of Tommy's friends passes away and Grace is called to clean his place up, she thinks there is something suspicious about it and so she goes to the police about it. She is drawn deeper and deeper into a mystery that involves Tommy and several of his friends. What will she find out? What is really going on?

I didn't really look at the premise of this book before I said I would read it. So it really wasn't I thought it would be based on the name of it. That being said I enjoyed it, it was interesting and different. Although it really had two mysteries that were revealed in the book. One was revealed too early in my opinion, it would have been better if they author had held that one back until closer to the end.

The story started great, it was engaging and interesting. As I kept reading I was distracted by the extra amount of detail that made me lose interest in the story. It had great potential and I'm probably one of the very few that was not wowed by this book. I would try another book from this author, I just did not love this one. . Thank you NetGalley, publisher and author, for a free copy of this book in exchange for my review.

A very unique and compelling story with plenty of twists and turns .
Grace McGill , is a cleaner one who cleans up flats/ homes of people who have died in their own homes they can have been left undiscovered for months.
Grace is certainly a complex character , certainly not living the dream in her personal life she is a loner living with her cat George.
The book is brilliantly written , it’s dark and twisted in places and has the perfect ending.
Highly recommended !

I found the premise of this book – the story of a woman whose job it is to clean the homes of people who have been discovered dead, often after they've been lying there for months - immediately intriguing. I think ever since hearing about the case of Joyce Carol Vincent the idea of someone being able to lie unmissed for a long period of time has always captured me. The narrator, Grace, seems to share this sentiment, and makes it her mission to clean the homes of these people with love and respect, keeping small relics to remember them by and attending their funerals - until one day she finds something at the scene of the death that leads her down a rabbit hole trying to unpick the events of one summer decades before she was even born. It's hard to write much more without giving anything away, as the plot is very intricately woven and even small details become significant later on, but it's a well-paced and engaging read that gives you plenty to think about.

This book follows Grace McGill a crime scene cleaner. She is often called upon to clean after bodies have laid undiscovered for months so it is not a nice job. Grace is very involved in the stories of the dead, she feels a need to find out about their lives and discover their secrets. I did enjoy this book however I did find the plot a little unusual, and even unbelievable. That being said it really did keep my interest so worth a read.

What an original, unique, and downright engrossing book this was! The premise was brilliant and I was sucked in from the get go. Grace takes you on a dark, twisted, somewhat macabre journey as she cleans up after the “undiscovereds” - those who died and were not discovered for some time after. However, Grace starts to notice a pattern emerging with her most recent clean ups… they couldn’t possibly be connected could they??

Robertson’s writing is smooth - you’ll glide through this book, trying to piece together with Grace the mystery surrounding these deaths (WTF happened in 1964???) Just as you’re tucking in your blanket thinking you may be dabbling in a bit of cosy crime, Robertson will whip it off you with a twist that’ll make you go “eh, what?!” And just as you’re enjoying that, you’ll be sucker punched with a belter of a twist - I grinned the biggest grin, as I knew I was entering a whole other level of crazy!

This book has a superbly dark and morbidly humorous narrative. I loved learning the factual details about the clean up and also the details on Glasgow - I’m just across the central belt in Edinburgh and recognised a lot of what was referenced. Robertson’s characterisation is gobsmackingly great!

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes a smooth, twisted and dark read. Trust me, you won’t forget Grace McGill in a hurry.

A massive thank you to Hodder & Stoughton, CS Robertson, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC and provide my personal thoughts.

I really didn't enjoy this book. I found the lengthy details of Grace's work very off-putting, and although the story was intriguing, I found the whole thing very far-fetched, with completely unappealing characters, especially Grace herself.

A very slow burner with lots of unnecessary information.
Had a promising start but went downhill for me.
Grace`s job is to clean up after people have been dead for weeks.
Grace is very unlikeable and does not get any better as the book goes on.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

One of the most extraordinary books of the year. Grace McGill is a gloriously complex character. Her voice as narrator can be dark and chilling but also teasing and beguiling. Death is a large part of her life.
The plot is innovative and original and perfectly structured. It's full of twists and turns, surprises and shocks and completely under the control of Grace.
I love the Scottish locations in the background and the attention to detail. I will never forget Grace and I think it will be a long time before I decide if she is saint or sinner.

Grace McGill is in her 30’s and lives in a flat in Glasgow with only her cat George for company, and that’s exactly how she likes it. For someone who’s quite timid, and very much a loner, Grace is extraordinarily ruthless in her quest for answers, but (like me), you might still be in for a shock!

Grace McGill is a cleaner, she has her own company called Last Wish Cleaning, she doesn’t clean offices or homes though, she cleans up after people have died alone, and lain undiscovered for quite some time. Not a pleasant job, but as she says “ someone’s got to do it and it might as well be her “ She’s meticulous, taking into account the forensics involved, and how difficult it is to truly clean up after bodily remains have laid undiscovered for a long time.

When she attends the home of an old man who was undiscovered for some months, she delves further into his life, after discovering a photo and many newspapers all with the same date and covering many many years. Grace is about to stir things up, and that will upset people who prefer to leave the past in the past. It leads to a remarkable and unique storyline that kept me riveted.

Gosh this was a dark and disturbing one that had some really unexpected twists, with the tension ever present. I doubt you will have read anything like it - I hadn’t!

What an excellent, cleverly written thriller from the author! Grace Mc Gill is such an interesting character, a bit of a loner, apart from George the cat her only friend. She cleans up death scenes for a living, macabre but someone has to do it. The book has an original, fascinating plot which drew me in from the beginning. I was totally engrossed in this fast paced and darkly different psychological read which I highly recommend to lovers of the genre. An easy 5* read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

When people die alone and undiscovered, it's her job to clean up what's left behind - whether it's clutter, bodily remains or dark secrets. When an old man lies undetected in his flat for months, it seems an unremarkable life an unnoticed death. But Grace knows everyone has a story and that all deaths mean something more.

What an interesting read this was. The plotline is original, a cleaner who specialises in cleaning up unpleasant death scenes, Grace McGill tries to clear up mysteries surrounding the people she cleans up after. This is a cleverly written book that has a great twist around the half way mark. The pace was a bit slow to begin with but it soon picks up. The story is set in Glasgow. This is a gripping tale with a sad ending. Stick with it, you won't be disappointed.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #HodderStoughtin and the author #CSRobertson for my ARC of #TheUndiscoveredDeathsOfGraceMcGill in exchange for an honest review.

Grace McGill, is a very complex character. It takes a little while into the book to begin to understand her.

Her job is certainly not one that many people would do or want. She cleans up after the dead. The kind that have laid undiscovered for weeks or even months. She prides herself by the job she does.

In one job she goes to a man has been undiscovered for months. How could anyone not be missed by another person for so long. Grace feels there's more to this man than people realise. What secrets does his life hold.

I initially thought this book was to do with the day to day life of a scene cleaner. It was only upon reading i discovered it was a novel. It was like peeling away the layers of an onion. And yes I did feel emotion for Grace with the ending. Well worth a read.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC
