Review of One Night Only by Catherine Walsh - Audiobook
This is the story of Sarah who lives in New York and hooks up with Irish Declan for a one night stand and quickly kicks him out come the morning as she is over relationships. Fast forward a week and Sarah is now at her best friends wedding in Ireland and just happens to bump into the grooms brother who is no other than the one person she thought she would never see again, Declan! This was a really enjoyable read, with some great funny moments. Loved the writing and the characters. This was the audio version which was well read and easy to listen to. Recommended.

I requested the audiobook on Netgalley and thought it would be nice to listen to a book whilst I was watching out my baby boy walking around in our building terrace. Turns out I was wrong, it's totally impossible to pay attention to anything that's not him. However I did listen to the first chapter and I actually was very interested in this book, so I got the e-book and finished it. It was a really delightful book, we call this kind of romance 'water and sugar' (água com açúcar) and honestly I just loved it! Really delightful

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
One Night Only was a charming romance novel. The story introduces Sarah who is unwilling to get into any kind of serious relationship after having her heart broken in the past. Declan is the love interest who is one of Sarah's one night stands. Sarah travels to Ireland to attend her best friend's wedding and realizes her one night stand is the brother of the groom. Hilarity and chemistry ensue as Sarah and Declan continue to run into each other back in New York. They both are unable to deny their attraction to each other.
I loved this book overall. I really enjoyed the main character struggling with her previous heartbreak, but also being confident in herself and what she enjoys. It took her a long time to come to terms with what she wanted out of the relationship with Declan. The chemistry and banter between the couple were fun and really invested you in their relationship. Overall, I found the journey enjoyable.
I listened to the audiobook version of this story and absolutely loved the narrator. Her Irish accent was beautiful and really brought Declan to life.

I loved this book! It was a perfect “curl up with a cup of tea and read all day kind of book”. The story was cute, the characters were great (although frustrating for dancing around each other for so long) and part of it was set in my most favorite place in the world. The narrator was wonderful at being this story to life.

Alright y’all I’ve been listening to this one for a few days and I am sooooo ready to talk about it. This book was phenomenal.
I didn’t have a hard time with any of this book. It was easy to listen to so it would definitely be an easy read and it was addicting. Like I hated that I had to turn the audio off to go to class some days. Absolute torture.
The characters in this are so beautifully written and so different personality wise that I didn’t have any confusion over who was who or having to differentiate two people who’s re written the same.
Declan Murphy was 🤌🏻perfection. I will say no more about him cause youu just have to read it.
I absolutely ate this up as y’all know and I cannot wait to someday read more from this author!
The reason this book didn’t get a 5/5 from me though is because of the audio at times the ALC would just skip something for no reason🤷🏻♀️ So I kept having to retrace sometimes. Either way I loved this book
If you want a book that is literally most of Taylor Swift’s 1989 album and some of HS1 then heck yes this book is for you!
Again thank you @netgalley , @bookouture and @catwalshwriter for the ALC of One Night Only!!

I listened to the audiobook version of this story. Plot was slightly thin and I felt most of the action as such took place in the first third of the book. The last third felt drawn out unnecessarily. The narrator does use a breathy verging on hysteria voice for Sarah at times which does get quite annoying. Worth reading/listening too just for Mary (Declan’s Mum) who is hilarious! Chick lit fodder for those who love a romance.
Thank you Netgalley

As an audiobook - I really enjoyed the narrator's voice and accent for the Irish character(s)
Sarah has always done one-night stands and only one-night stands for a reason...but what happens when that one-night stand you kicked out of your house turns out to be your best friend's soon-to-be brother-in-law?
Declan, a gorgeous Irishmen, lives in New York and doesn't do one-night stands. His brother is getting married back in Ireland, but going home is hard for him with a history he doesn't want to face. "it's 3 p.m. on a Thursday and who looks this good 3 p.m. on a Thursday?" - Chapter 18.
Pros:
Sarah and Delcan have a connection that both feel from the beginning, even though Sarah tries to deny it. Their banter is amazing and enjoyable to read - definitely had a goofy smile on my face while reading it. There was really great character growth for both main characters. I really like that they had time apart to grow/deal with stuff before jumping into a relationship of some kind.
Cons:
I enjoyed the character growth Sarah goes through, however, I felt there was too much separation between Sarah and Delcan during that process. With the long separation, the book felt a little too long since we did not have the characters together too much. In my opinion, I wanted even more moments with them together than was given.

Sarah Anderson is going to her best friend’s wedding in Ireland and the last thing she expects is for her one-night stand, Declan Murphy, to be the groom’s brother. Despite her best efforts to forget about him when they’re back in New York, he keeps popping up.
The premise of this story was cute but Sarah’s detour to get back to Declan seemed a little drawn out. Their chemistry was fantastic, and they were so much fun together. I was very pleased with Catherine Walsh’s debut novel.

I absolutely loved this book. If it's not my favorite book of the year it's in the top three for sure.
I listened to the audiobook, provided by netgalley in exchange for an honest review and, to be frank, I didn't have high expectations for this book. The blurb said it was about a one night stand, but the guy turns out to be the best man in her best friend's wedding. It sounded cute and cliché and like a fun easy read/listen. I was shocked to see that the wedding was over and we were only a quarter of the way through the story. This book is soo much more.
The characters felt real. So real I feel like following Sarah and Declan on social media so I can keep up with their lives, like I would an old high school friend. Their romance is so cute. The dialogue felt authentic. The way Walsh wrote this story is so genuine and modern. Yes to cyber stalking the guy you're dating and discovering his secrets on her own! Too many stories build up this big secret reveal when let's face it, us ladies know how to lurk a Facebook profile to find whatever info we need. I could relate to so many moments in this story.
Most of all, I LOVED that this wasn't the kind of romance that happens in a few days or weeks. Most rom coms feel rushed, where the couple fall way too hard way too fast and the book ends with an engagement. Their romance reminded me a bit of my own and the ending was just perfection. There's a push and pull that's fun and quirky, but neither of the leads do anything stupid or frustrating. Declan does everything right. Omg, I didn't think it was possible for a girl with a fake Irish accent to sound so sexy (Kudos to the narrator, Jessica Regan).
I don't know how she'll follow this up because there was so much perfection packed into one book, could there be anything left for her follow up?! I'll have to tell you when I read that too, cause Walsh is now an insta buy for me.
Maybe it was just the narrator, Regan did an excellent job, but this story really came to life for me and I sat down and listened to it for hours straight. It's been over for days but I'm still suffering through my book hangover.
Buy this book. Share it with your friends. If you like rom coms, ignore the bad reviews and give this one a shot!

This was a fun book to listen to! Declan is a great character and swoon worthy leading man. At times I found Sarah annoying with her low self esteem and wanted to see her stick up for herself especially at work. I loved all of the Irish humor in the book.

One Night Only by Catherine Walsh answers the question, what happens when your one night stand shows up at your best friend’s wedding?
Sarah arrives at her best friend’s wedding in Ireland, only to find out that the best man is the one night stand she had back in New York.
I enjoyed the witty banter and sassy dialogue between Sarah and Declan throughout this book. I do wish Declan had been a little more fleshed out as a character, though.
I listened to One Night Stand as an audiobook, and the narrator, Jessica Regan had the perfect Irish lilt to her voice for this story!
This was a fun light read and would be the perfect summer, beach or vacation read.
Thanks to Bookouture Audio, Bookouture Publishing and NetGalley for the review copy in exchange for my honest opinions.

One Night Only was AMAZING! I adored this and it is everything I need in a romance book. A wedding in Ireland? Hot Irish men? Witty banner? Swoon. The characters were all so amazing and the complications in the relationship were realistic and solved realistically. I was pulled right into the story from the beginning and found myself not wanting to put it down. The character development was also fabulous.
We are following Sarah, who is an architect living in New York. She is feeling kinda meh after she loses out on promotion but has a giant surprise when she goes to her best friend's wedding in Ireland and the groom's brother is her latest one-night stand. I just loved Sarah and Declan and reading about their relationship. I rooted for them the whole time!
I highly recommend this fun and fluffy read!

This was super cute!
I think it really resonated with me because I myself am hoping to be swept off my feet by a gorgeous, charming Irish man – if you know one let me know!
Honestly, I really enjoyed the characters in this book. From the forever self-sabotaging, Sarah, to the charming, well-intentioned, but somewhat infuriating Declan to the supporting characters who all seem to play a role in both helping and hindering Declan and Sarah from being on the same page.
Like most rom-coms, some of the major conflict could have been avoided with a couple of conversations, but where is the fun in that. Where this book does well is that it actually makes avoiding these conversations seem like a realistic move for the characters,
Cute, fun, and easy – exactly what you want from this genre!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgally and Bookouture for providing me with an arc of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This book is really great!! The story is super cute and fun and the characters are well written and made the reading experience super enjoyable. Basically right after finishing the audiobook I went back and listened to my favorite parts again and if that doesn't tell you that you should pick this up I don't know will.
There are so many "little" things that this book just got right that I so often see a little messed:
1. Both the MC and love interest have a normal number of friends (of their own) and normal relationships with their parents (sorta). Also, said friends have their own lives too! What a concept!
2. The conflict(s) felt like actual real things that weren't blown out of proportion. And hold on to your hats everybody because the character's actually talk to each other instead of allowing for some stupid miscommunication thing to get blown out of proportion.
3. The epilogue takes place after an actual meaningful amount of time.
Chef's kiss!
Totally recommend the audiobook the narrator did a super great job (especially since I'm pretty sure she has an Irish accent but does most of the audiobook in an American accent and there are only a few words here and there that sound just a drop off) and it was really fun to hear the actual accents.

I really enjoyed the story, the change in location and many of the characters. I listened to the audio book and something about the narrator didn’t sit right with me so I think I’d have enjoyed it more if I’d read it in print.
I’d seek more books by the author out though

For once, this book contained an experienced female protagonist who had amazing past sexual experiences. Anyway, like I said, would've been a great read overall if most of the part was not boring. Still, I did enjoy some stuff. So it was not a total vain read. Writing was alright. Narrator was okay too I guess. Sorry, I just don't like audiobooks. I'm officially gonna stop forcing myself to like it.

I really enjoyed listening to this book! An improbable set of circumstances pairs a commitment-phobic woman with a charming Irish man who won't give up. I loved the characters, such fun personalities, and the combination of humor and romance was just right. Add in the great settings of New York and Ireland, and this makes for a really fun story. I highly recommend it and hope it becomes a movie one day!

I was granted an ARC of this audible, and I thank Netgalley and Bookoture for this entertaining listen in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first introduction but not my last listen to this narrator. I really felt that her narration was really into the characters and the story itself. Because the narrator sounded so connected I felt connected also. She had the perfect blend of an understandable Irish accent as well as an American accent.
The writing had the elements of comedy, romance, and contemporary adult themes that I was expecting and more from this book. All of which I enjoyed immensely.
I’m looking forward to reading more from this author and will definitely look for more audios by this narrator.

‘My dog is worn out and my house is clean!’
So, I listen to my audio books with headphones whilst walking with Zoe, my guide dog, and doing household chores.
This amazing debut book, One Night Only by Catherine Walsh, certainly gave me all good reasons to do so. I couldn’t stop reading /listening! I was literally hooked from the opening line ‘ there's someone in my bed’. The fun and laughter started from the get go and did not stop!
After throwing out her latest one night stand (despite his efforts to stay), Sarah forfilled plans to jet off to her best friend Annie’s, wedding in Ireland.
Sarah lives in New York City with her friend Claire. Sarah & Claire are friends and straight away the friendship is clearly understood when claire announces ‘this always happens when they plan a run!’ referring to Sarah’s repeated one night stands.
Sarah then finds ‘one night stands’ watch whilst packing, and leaves Claire with instructions for him to collect in her absence! (Already laughing so much at this early point!)
Sarah arrives in the charming Irish countryside where she is surrounded by many several quirky characters and her worst nightmare is unveiled as Paul, her bestie friend Annie’s groom, introduces his brother Declan to Sarah. Not even recognising his name she looks up to discover it's none other than the said one night stand! What are the chances!
Horrifyingly, she attempts to discourage public acknowledgement by either of them. However, after more family wedding boozy antics, without success! Revealed oh so subtly!
I must add the pre wedding is hilarious and literally full of laugh out loud moments! You cant help but love Declan more and more!
The connection between Declan and Sarah begins to develop despite resistance and sarah's denial.
Returning home to New York City without a goodbye from Declan reveals unexpected feelings Sarah didn't think possible!
Meanwhile , fate, coincidence and with Declan’s persistence throws them together in several situations. Declan is amazing I really loved his character.
Sarah unravels her heart gradually revealing her hurtful past. Little does she know declan has a few surprising skeletons of himself!
Declan discovered Sarah works as an architect and they find themselves thrown together on a strictly professional level. Yeah ok... 🤣
The office story and set up is so real and I can just relate to all of the characters in the workplace. If only I had a will Their friendship is adorable.
I loved every part of this ever unfolding story. Even down to the speed dating charity night. So many angles and never predictable!
I can’t give enough praise to the author. the friendships between all the characters were so relatable.
This book is full of laughs, fun and perfect rom com / chick lit for any occasion. I did not want it to end and I hope and pray that there is another novel soon by Catherine.
I would defo welcome a follow up just to see Mathias get his comeuppance!
The narration by jessica Regan, is simply superb. performing the various characters and distinguishingly switching Irish / New York City accents easily, defo makes this audio version come to life.
I must comment on one aspect that appears to be a thing. On reading previous reviews (which I do hope does not prevent the enjoyment of future readers.) there have been many comments regarding one early specific comment in this novel...
On arrival to Ireland, Annie and Paul are with Sarah and Paul confesses his first sexual experience which happened to be at the hotel of the prospective marriage in Ireland. he was only 17 and she was 20. Also a guest at the hotel. Gasps from all our US listeners has seemed to cause controversy. However, to us Brits and Europeans this statement does not cause concern. Completely legal for 17 olds! Also it included paul ‘only lasting 2 minutes’ and did not offend but instead made me laugh even more! Sorry friends!
Thank you to Catherine Walsh, Jessica Regan, audio bookouture and netgalley for my advanced audio copy of this book I am truly grateful the best I’ve listened to this year!
Recommend as a must read for all chicklit fans!
Im now I’m off to give the dog a rest.

I enjoyed this romcom. The only complaint I have about the audiobook is that the Irish narrator sometimes slipped when she read for an American character. Both the main characters were fun, but I did feel like it went on a little too long. A fun quick listen/read.
