This was so much more than just a romantic novel. It is an enemies to lovers story set in the Austrian Alps. The two main characters; Clover, a documentary producer, who was determined and relentless, she wanted her story, and Kit the pro-surfer turned snowboarder who was hostile, insular and aloof and refuses to co-operate with Clover despite his managers insistence.
A dreadful accident led to Kit's change of sport and Clover is prepared to dig and dig until she gets the answers she is looking for.
Loved this wonderful romance. Great characters, and setting is so vividly described I felt I was there.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book, although it did take me a while to get into it initially. I found once the characters started to be explained and how the situation came about I engaged with it much more, from there I was really invested in getting the truth from the story as much as our main character was. I felt that there was much more to it than was being revealed and I correctly guessed who was behind the generosity in the book also. I liked the backup characters and both the snowboarding and surfing info within it too.
Brilliant read. Added to one of my favourites by this author. It’s not Christmas without a Karen Swan novel
Amazing book. Absolutely loved this.
Loved the two main characters. I felt the tension and chemistry between them from the beginning and was really routing for them both to be ok. With both going through tough times it made you feel connected and emotional for them both.
Loved how it kept you wanting more to know what was going to happen.
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
If I think of good old christmas books to get me in the festive spirit, then Karen Swan always comes to mind - and this book filled all my festive delights with a good old enemies to lovers trope.
Set in the Austrian Alps, Clover Phillips, a journalist who has made her success after the release of a documentary on surfer Cory Albright who suffered a brain injury whilst competing and nearly drowning. Clover decides she wants to follow up with another documentary but this time focusing on Kit Foley, the guy who caused Cory's accident. However Kit and Clover don't exactly hit it off and the book has its own plot twists with an unexpected ending.
Thought provoking with beautiful descriptions of the setting and scenery, this will be a favourite christmas read.
I love a Karen Swan book! Great characters and an amazing setting that was so well described. Really well written too. Recommended.
When you start this book you'll wonder about the title, but don't worry you will soon find yourself in a snowy Austria, although this is a wintry book not Christmas so you could read it at any time. The story revolves around Kit Foley, and argumentative but award-winning sportsman, who was involved in a life changing accident with his bitter rival Cory. Clover, is a famous documentary maker who has finds herself intrigued by Kit, and she is convinced he's hiding a secret. Having made a documentary about Cory and the accident she now wants to know Kits side of the story, but Kit wants it to stay in the past. As always a great read from Karen Swan.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a Karen Swan book! Having said that, Christmas wasn’t the main focus here so it would also make a good, cosy up Winter read. Full of great characters, a great location and a great storyline you really can’t go wrong, just what I expect from this author. Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for letting me read and review this book.
A nice book by Karen Swan. I’ve never read a book by this author before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story and the characters.
A beautiful and enchanting winter story. I found this story very easy and enjoyable to read, 5 well earned stars.
Another stunning wintery read from this author, a story you can get lost in and that gives you all the festive feels.
This is not what I would class as a Christmas book, there’s not a lot of Christmas featured!
That being said I was hooked from the first few pages and I felt so invested in the characters.
I was rooting for Kit and Clover was such a great main character.
The setting was spectacular, I need to rent that chalet looking out over the lake 😍
The fact that it wasn’t a full on fluffy Christmas read and that it was about surfing and snowboarding is actually why I enjoyed it so much!
Still a fab read for this time of year and would recommend as I couldn’t put it down!
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
This one was a lovely read. I really enjoyed reading this one. I just love this kind of books.
4 stars read for me
Initially I was thrown off by the name dropping of celebrities and brands. It was very distracting. I started warming up to the characters as I read on. I was rooting for Kit and knew he wasn’t the guy everyone had painted him to be. Saying that, I wasn’t expecting the full extent of the reveal. What a shocker! I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would and will be rereading it again.
Midnight in the Snow is a lovely read. Christmasy, romantic, heartwarming and full of characters you come to care about and really root for to get their happy ending. It's a great book to lose a few hours to.
Lovely storyline that gave me a warm glow especially for Christmas time. Believable characters who you wanted to learn more about and were wishing for a good ending
I eagerly await the summer and winter reads from Karen Swan. She has a magical way of getting you totally invested in the characters and story line.
In this latest winter read Clover, a journalist, is looking for a follow up to her recent story about a surfer who was significantly injured in a surfing competition. After spending time with his wife and family, she is keen to go after the man responsible for causing the life changing injuries.
Kit is now a snowboarder and she stays in the same lodge that he is spending time in. He is difficult to get to know- he is a really prickly character. But what secrets is he keeping? We gradually get to know him better and you are keen to find out what happened at the surfing competition.
