Connie and Luke have , it appears, the perfect marriage ,and are the envy of their friends until Connie meets John Harding with whom she begins an affair. Connie loses her senses and all self control and risks her marriage and everything she has with Luke - but then Luke finds out. This book puts the steam into steamy! It’s saucy and sexy and gets very hot under the collar in places. Definitely one for the ladies i reckon and with effortless narration from Hailey Bolton. Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for my gifted copy.
I enjoyed 'playing away'. Undoubtedly a book you would class in the women's fiction / romance genres, but with all of the sass that is trademark Adele Parks!
The story, which is a little racy in parts, hears of Connie, a relatively new wife, being persuaded into a torrid affair from irascible pursuer, John. Connie's friendship group features heavily, and for me, this book had shades of the movie 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' (possibly due to a reference to the hit song from the soundtrack!)
The audiobook is well narrated, with a likeable and easy to listen to narrator who had no difficulty maintaining my attention.
When listening to this audiobook the thought passed through my mind that it may be set a couple of decades ago as it featured none of the complications of social media that would no doubt feature presently! this is by no means a criticism, and was quite refreshing!
My thanks to Net Galley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I’m not going to lie, this book was quite hard to read. A married women has an affair even though she actually still loves her husband. She is a really strange character, she has everything but risks it all for a fling, one night stand or you could call it an affair. When her husband finds out, she regrets everything, but it’s too late- her husband isn’t prepared to have her back. She gets what she deserves, she feels the pain that she has inflicted on her husband. But he loves her, he seems too good for her. The narrator was good, she expressed the emotions of the characters well.
