Unfortunately, what was offered in the extract was not enough to write a full review on. While the novel does seem engaging and, like Rooney's other works, well written, I am no more intrigued by it having read the short extract than I was having read the synopsis.

The couple of pages I was gifted were well written and engaging. Found it interesting enough to possibly read the full book in the future.

How do you review a book when all that is available is the first chapter? It looks promising, but I'd sure like to read the rest of the book.

After reading this extract I don’t know if this is the book for me. I wasn’t grabbed by the characters and I’m not sure if Rooney’s writing style is for me.

A short glimpse into Sally Rooney’s upcoming third novel but nonetheless one that has kept me intrigued about her characters and plot. As always, Rooney’s writing style is impeccable and has left me wanting more! I’m really looking forward to reading the full novel when it releases next month!

Beautiful World where are you extract
We meet Alice sitting alone in a hotel bar tentatively checking her phone every few minutes . Felix walks in a little late , nods in her direction and buys them both a drink . They appear to have met via a dating app so their initial conversation is awkward and stilted . Perhaps another drink will lead on to something else ?
From the on-set this is true to Sally Rooney ‘s writing style and she draws you in from the beginning . Looking forward to seeing where the rest of the story takes us . Thanks to Faber and Faber and Netgallery for an arc extract .

This is but a teeny tiny glimpse into Rooney's new book. I cannot wait to read all of it. It definitely looks like it will be another wonderful story by Rooney.

I'm a Sally Rooney stan. I devour her writing and her characters. I was legit checking Netgalley every day for this book and tbh I was a little disappointed to only receive the extract. But nonetheless, the extract has made me excited and I'm so looking forward to the publication day!
3 stars until I read the rest :).

Loved this! I enjoyed Rooney’s other works and this is no different. I can’t wait to buy this book and see what happens after this great first chapter

Not a terribly gripping start to the novel, but Rooney's writing doesn't really give to samples - I can't connect to characters in a few pages. Still, the writing is promising and I am excited to read the full thing.

Only the first chapter but it's clear this book will be huge. I love Rooney's writing, her way of seeing the world, her witty asides. She is a modern-day Austen and deserves her success.

After reading normal people I was apprehensive about another Sally Rooney book. This taster though has relieved me of my fears and I am now very excited about this upcoming book!

cannot wait for the rest of the books.
it looks to be rooneys most diverse cast of characters yet
3 stars till i get the rest

Well, my bad - the Netgalley ARC is a short extract, and one that doesn't really give you a feeling for the text. So this is more of a reminder to myself that I checked this out. I probably won't read the whole thing.

I was lucky enough to receive a preview of this latest book by Sally Rooney. I'm not really sure that I can write a review of just one chapter but I was definitely left wanting more. Intriguing!

What an excellent preview! This chapter alone reminds me of all the things I love about Rooney's writing - wit and raw empathy. It made me pre-order it as soon as I finished it.

I like anything Sally Rooney...it’s like a window on a generation I am curious about yet feel removed from. I couldn’t actually tell from the
extract if I would like the book so nice to know pub date is sooner than later.

Alice, a writer, has moved to a small town where she seems to have met Felix, a local, via a dating app.
They have some misunderstandings as they each have vastly different communication styles and perspectives.
He's confused about why she's come to such a small place and doesn't seem to fully believe her statement about being a writer.
She is a bit reserved even as she wants to get to know others, to a degree anyway.

I have never read a book by the author before i read this extract but wow the description of the characters and the storyline had me gripped and wow what a ending to end the extract on so many questions etc
many thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the opportunity to read this extract

Sally Rooney is one of my favourite authors and this extract from her latest did not disappoint. It was beautifully written and intriguing. I can’t wait to read the rest!
