Although not enough to gauge anything about the story, this one chapter extract gave BIG normal people/ conversations with friends vibes. Sally Rooney's style of writing never seems to get boring!

I'd of loved to have carried on reading but alas, we must wait!!

I was so excited to see the email from NetGalley approving me for an ARC of Sally Rooney's latest novel but imagine my disappointment when I realized it was only for the 1st chapter. NetGalley you big tease, you!

I loved her previous novel Normal People and this book right here most definitely gives off the same vibes. It's going to be a quiet novel but one that will have emotional pull. As with her previous novel she does not use quotation marks which will irk many readers. For me, personally, I could not care less. Her writing is so lush and evocative that quotations make no difference to me. I'm greatly looking forward to reading this novel in it's entirety. So far, from the one chapter, I will mark this 5 stars!

Thanks to NetGalley and Faber & Faber for the extract.

I went through this chapter so quickly, and it wasn’t enough. I really need more of ‘Beautiful World, Where You’ now! Sally Rooney writing is always on point, and her characters are always so raw and so real, and I’m looking forward to learning more about them. They’re both flawed and human, and real, and I can already see that this book will become another one of my favourites. September can’t come early enough!

So so excited to read this after the success of all the previous Rooney books! An enjoyable teaser that only left me wanting more.

Absolutely cannot wait for this, the first chapter only made me more excited to get into it. It doesn't tell us a huge amount which isn't a suprise given what slow burners Sally Rooney's books are but I'm looking forward to seeing where Alice and Felix's story takes them.

This extract from Sally Rooney's latest echoes much of "Normal People", the only other Rooney I've read. There is the same neglect of quotation marks, but Rooney injects it with the same rhythm that keeps someone hooked to a novel by someone like a James Ellroy, whose short, burst-like sentences are as unique to his writing as Rooney's purge of quotation marks is to hers.

The characters are still a tad bit awkward, and reminded me more than a little of the "Normal People" protagonists, but the extract by itself is generally too short to leave any real impact or to generate anything more specific than the feedback which'll rightfully laud Rooney for the ability to keep retain the immersive quality of her prose.

I have been really excited about Sally Rooney's new book. I look back at Normal People and think I love her books. Then I start to actually read her books (like this excerpt from her new one) and think maybe my memory is not accurate. Her writing style is so hard to read. It is dry and she does not use traditional punctuation or mark any dialog. Not only does it make her writing seem slow and difficult but also the grammar nerd inside me is furious. Also nothing happens. So, after reading this small sample of her upcoming book, I am unsure if I will read the full book. I will wait and see what other reviewers think because I always thought Sally Rooney was for me but now I am not so sure.

This short extract didn't really give much away, I could have done with at least 3 chapters to get a feel for the novel. It was very much a classic Sally Rooney.

Ordinarily it would be hard to review the first chapter of any book, but as it’s a Sally Rooney chapter, it reads more like a short story in itself.
Alice has moved to a small Irish town, from Dublin, and previously New York. She’s a writer and appears self assured and a little mysterious, although not intending to be.
She’s on a first date with Felix, who seems perplexed by her moving there in the first place and by her general demeanor.
They return to the house she’s renting, which turns out to be the rectory, and eventually their date fades into an awkward misunderstanding of each other. Like all of Rooney’s writing, it’s atmospheric, and packed with the fizz of potential for what’s coming next. It’s also left me eager to read the next chapter!

Thank you to NetGallery for and ARC of Beautiful World, Where Are You (Extract).

I have read Normal People and thoroughly enjoyed it so I was very excited to read an extract from Sally Rooney's latest novel Beautiful World, Where Are You.

It has only taken a few pages and I am gripped by the characters. I think, that is what makes Rooney's writing so unique: the Irish charm and the ability to create characters I care deeply about.

Alice and Felix meet on a first date. Alice is nervous. Felix is somewhat distant. She shows him her house and he leaves soon after. I am super excited to read on to see what will happen next in their story. Why has Alice moved to this isolated village? And why is Felix so contrary?

This book is one of my most anticipated books of the year and I am super excited to get my hands on a finished copy of the book. This was only an extract but I enjoyed reading it and it has made me even more excited for the whole book to be released in September.

Such a shame this is only an extract. It’s an excellent start which has me intrigued to carry on. . I can’t wait to read more of this when it’s available.

One of the most anticipated reads of the year. Thank you to Faber and Faber for this extract. This was just the first chapter. In it we follow the protagonist, a young woman living in America, on a first date that ends rather awkwardly. This seems like a 20-something coming-of-Age story; life post-university. Written in the well observed prose that is trademark of Rooney’s, although this one seems more humorous and wry in tone in comparison to Normal People. I look forward reading the book.

I came into this chapter with high hopes - I'd heard incredible things about Sally Rooney and was so excited to see this preview before the book came out (I know right? Who hasn't read Normal People?). It's safe to say that I wasn't disappointed by it. I found it slightly difficult to adjust to the dialogue for a few paragraphs, but it was surprisingly easy to follow once I got into the flow of reading. As for the characters, I actually found both of them a little cold and generally unlikeable but I guess that opens up all the avenues for the incredible character development that Sally Rooney is known for. All in all, a very intriguing start - it definitely sucked me in and I cannot wait to read more!

Thanks to Faber & Faber, Sally Rooney and NetGalley for the ARC Extract of Beautiful World, Where are you?

I was a big fan of Normal People so am really excited to see what's in store from Sally Rooney with her latest novel. In this sneak peak preview I was able to read chapter one of the book where we meet Alice, a novelist on her first date with Felix who works in a warehouse.

Alice is new to the area and has moved into a house called The Rectory as the owners were unable to sell it. This sparked my attention and after the opening chapter I was certainly left wanting to know more and wanting to understand more of the back stories of the two key characters!

The lack of punctuation was a tad annoying (and not sure if that's just due to it being a proof) but that aside it was a great insight into the book that really drew me in!

My attention is intrigued by this opening chapter. Why has Alice moved to the Rectory? Will anything happen with Felix? Written and emotions described in the lightest of touches. Can’t wait to read on

Thanks to Faber & Faber and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read chapter one sample of Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney, I have given an honest review.
One chapter, eleven pages, was a very good start for Alice and Felix who just met that made me want to read the whole. I really enjoyed the writing style, very well plot and emotions have been described. So excited to see where this story goes.

Gah I’m so excited for this book, I almost wish I hadn’t read this extract as I just want to keep on reading and I can’t!

There is just something about the way Sally Rooney writes that just captivates me .

It is of course very difficult to review a book after only reading a chapter but what I can say is that I'm very intrigued! It was so nice to be in a world written by Sally Rooney again and I can't wait until september to get my hands on this book and read it back to back.

Thanks sooo much to NetGalley and the publisher for the extract!
