Enjoyed it so far. Looking forward to reading the whole book soon. Rooney has a noticeable writing style which for new readers takes some getting used to but I think it’s worth persevering with

First chapters to Sally Rooneys new book.
Appealing yo mostly young adults the chapter focuses on online dating and first encounters as a young writer arrives in town to house sit for a while. Giving herself time and space to write she nevertheless finds the days lonely and resorts to swiping right to meet new men in this new town.

This gripped me from the sample, I preordered it straight away after reading this. Looking forward to reading the rest of the story. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read the sample.

I really enjoyed reading the first chapter of this book. Rooney's style always takes a little bit of getting used too, no speech marks but it make sense. I can't wait to read the rest and see what happens with Alice.

I love anything with Sally Rooney's name attached to it! This sample was just the teaser I needed to pre-order her latest book!

I very much enjoyed reading this sampler - it seems like this novel is going to be everything I loved in Normal People and Conversations with Friends so I'm really keen to read more. I'm going to buy the audio book tonight so that I can continue with the story as I already feel invested and want to know more about these characters.

I honestly didn't like this book nearly as much as Normal People. I didn't find any of the characters particularly likeable. Felix seems quite cruel and I'm not sure why or how Alice fell in love with him. It seemed very fast and didn't make any sense.
Eileen and Simon make more sense as a couple. They clearly love each other, but can't seem to work it out.
But they all behave rather badly and I didn't root for anyone, except for Alice to get away from Felix.

Well… I couldn’t get to page 100!
I wasn’t a big fan of her previous two books but this one … I just couldn’t continue! I’m sure many people will love the style and the narrative but It wasn’t for me.
Something that I really hate about it is the fact that dialogues don’t have quotation marks… how am I meant to know if something is being said or if she is just thinking about saying… sooooo annoying plus.. omg such long and boring chapters!!
Hahah ok.. I finished my rant! Sadly one of the disappointments of 2021

I have read a book that will stay with me for years and which I consider to be one of my favorite books EVER. A book that is one of the most beautiful stories about love, friendship and life. A book that is filled to the brim with authenticity, intensity, normality and reflection. In which I find a representation - of myself now, myself 10 years ago, myself from my own dreams. With whom I felt unity, absolute fit, closeness and understanding. In a world where you constantly think, analyze, struggle with yourself, with the inability to define your desires and fears. In a world where one wanders, says "I don't know", acts inconsistently and immaturely. Or is it just some kind of new maturity?
Rooney in "Beautiful World, Where Are You?" tells about four characters in their thirties. Alice and Eileen are friends - they don't see each other very often, in fact, it's been months since they last met, but they correspond regularly, sharing their thoughts and brief reports on everyday life. A man from Tinder appears in Alice's life. Eileen has been friends with his older (by about 5 years) childhood neighbor for many years. For almost 400 pages, we look at these relationships and read their correspondence. There is a lot of sex, there is a lot of uncertainty, indecision, searching for "something", misunderstandings, triviality. Boredom - one could say. For me, juiciness, everyday life, emotionality and authenticity.
And not only on the plot level, but above all on the level of behavior and thoughts, and everything in between. I love these characters, I love these dialogues, unforced narration, phenomenal description of the characters and the dynamics of the relationship, I love the melancholy that this book surrounds me with. I believed in these people, I felt genuine emotions, my stomach clenched, and I couldn't part with them.

Good extract, I'm looking forward to reading the full version of Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney.

I found the premise interesting and was looking forward to reading more of Sally Rooney's work. Unfortunately this didn't quite meet my expectations, nor did it offer something new.

Thank you for this extract of Beautiful World Where Are You! I'm really looking forward to reading the whole novel, this extract effortlessly draws you in to the story and I can't wait for more!

An enticing read. Rooney is very good at reading people and encapsulating relationships on paper. The opening chapter grabbed me immediately. That sense of awkwardness of a first date was perfectly detailed. She manages to evoke people, social situations and place so well. It feels like you are watching real people and walking alongside them. My sense of unease felt akin to the protagonists' in the opening scenes. Thank you for this excerpt. I look forward to reading more. #beautifulworldwhereareyou #sallyrooney #Netgalley

This book is everything I needed and more. I picked this up just before I became 22 and finished it once it officially published after I became 22 and it felt like a guidebook for my late 20s. Life has so many pathways and everyone will experience so many different things, I find it so interesting and compelling.
Sally Rooney is a new author to me, this is the first of her work I’ve ever read and I really feel in love with her style. It’s truly beautiful!

I have an uneasy relationship with the Rooney books. I find them both engaging and annoying. After reading the extract provided by the publisher, I think that will be the case here too. Rooney writes about people, young people, about their dilemmas and relationships. Her prose is very contemporary and fresh, but perhaps too hominine to delight?

I loved this.It was an amazing look at life and relationships and the inner dialogue and turmoil that we all go through. Rooney really outdid herself on this one!

This excerpt was beautifully written in classic Rooney style. She makes the characters so intriguing within a matter of pages. Cannot wait to read the full book and see what comes next

An interesting first look into the latest Sally Rooney book. I'm hesitant to give solid opinions on themes, characters, or plat based on a singular chapter but I will say this: the writing style is beautiful, if expected from Rooney. The sentences themselves are lovely. I just wish Rooney took more risks. We know she can write a certain type of reflective sentence well. I was really hoping to see something we haven't seen in her other books. Regardless, I look forward to reading the book as a whole.

Impossible to give an in-depth review as I only received a short extract. Difficult to see why publishers only give reviewers a short sample as they will not receive any decent reviews - which defeats the whole point!

I really enjoyed this sample to the point that I had to immediately get my hands on this. It’s very different to what people would expect if they are not already familiar with the authors popular book normal people. From the writing style to the complex characters so it’s always nice to read something realistic and that gets you thinking.
