Such an intriguing first chapter and I've just picked up the book to read the rest - Rooney's writing is superb and I'm so excited to find out more about the characters.

Only having access to a short extract menat I had no ifeel for the wider context or story but what I read made me want to read the entire book.

An intriguing first chapter into a relationship I’m already invested in! I still hate that Rooney doesn’t use speech marks and yet it’s a unique part of her writing - I can never not let it bother me

This book was really hard to get though. I didn’t like any of the characters. Boring in spots and slow.
Thank you NetGalley for a Digital copy of this book.

Oooh, thisnwasn't nearly enough! For the most part, I felt that this was just a sketch for the book, like the outline of the story. But it is just the first chapter, and Sally Rooney always sounds miserable. I can't wait to read more, honestly. I love her style.

An excerpt from my review. There is an immersive observational skill Rooney has with her characters and their relationships. Coupled with her beautiful and unique writing style, Beautiful World, Where Are You is another captivating novel for fans of Sally Rooney.

I have only read one chapter of this new novel by Sally Rooney, but already I am hooked. It so far has a similar atmosphere to Normal People and I am really looking forward to seeing the progression of the relationship between the characters. A great little taste, can’t wait for more! Thanks to Fabre and Fabre and Netgalley for the extract of this novel.

I have always loved Sally Rooney books, and this was no different. Even as an excerpt, I knew immediately how good it was going to be. Sally Rooney does such a remarkable way of pulling you into her little world of characters, sucking you in to the story. Cannot wait to read the whole thing.

In this new novel, Sally Rooney follows a group of friends. Alice and Eileen are best friends and have been from college. Alice has struck it big with her first novel and is now courted by the literary world. Far from being excited about it, she has had a breakdown and is recovering. Eileen has worked at various entry level jobs in publishing since university. She dated a man for several years and is still grieving the end of their relationship. She is flirting with Simon, someone she knew growing up and who is a bit older. The timing has never been right for them to be involved romantically but maybe it is now?
This first chapter draws the reader in quickly. The characters are mysterious but fighting to figure out their lives and are typical of young people in their late twenties. They aren't sure of their work, their attraction to others and what their lives will look like in the future. Fans of Rooney's earlier novels will be excited to read this new one.

FIRST CHAPTER ONLY - For any fan of Sally Rooney already you're bound to love this book. It has her usual writing style right off the bat and if you were engrossed by Normal People and Conversations with friends, she doesn't seem to disappoint with this one. I look forward to reading the rest of the book!

This book is about friendship and all the insecurities that life throws at you. This extract has prompted me to want to read the whole book.

I’ve never read a Sally Rooney book but have obviously heard the hype of Normal People and Conversations With Friends. In this small glimpse of her new novel I have not established a connection to the characters nor an eagerness to find out what happens next.
Not my cup of tea, however I can appreciate that many people thoroughly enjoy her writing I just didn’t mesh with the conversational style.

This was very intriguing first chapter, from the synopsis I can understand that Felix is prominent within the book so I’m very curious to understand how it can go from a bad date to Alice travelling to Rome with him
Will definitely be buying the book as it gives me the same vibe as the author’s other works

I was so excited to read this extract from Sally Rooney’s new release. I know this is going to be another amazing book and I can’t wait to pick it up really soon as I love her writing style.

I read the first chapter thanks to netgalley of this much anticipated release and preordered my copy immediately! Was sucked in and wanted to keep reading. Definitely want to follow the two friends on their journey.

Sally Rooney delivers once again. What a wonderful read. Highly recommended. Her readers won't be disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this sneak peek at Sally Rooney's new novel. I live her writing style, and this first chapter already has me in suspense to see what's in store for Alice and Felix. It seems like all my favourite authors are in the habit of not using quotation marks, so I am getting used to this quirk. This book is on its way, and I can't wait to read the rest.

Beautiful World, Where Are You (Extract) by Sally Rooney is the first chapter to the author's latest novel that is focused on a group of young friends over time and the complicated dynamics among the group.
This is my first taste of writing from this author but I found the friendship dynamics intriguing. The first chapter is heavy-dialogue which helps develop the characters and how they interact with each other. The main characters we see in this chapter is Alice and Felix during their first date. Although not much to go off of, the book was interesting enough that will plan on picking up the full novel.
Many thanks to the publisher Faber & Faber and Netgalley for the excerpt in return for an honest review.

I was so excited to read the first chapter of the new Sally Rooney book, Beautiful World, Where Are You. We meet Alice, a poised young writer who meets Felix on a blind date. He is a local to the town and their small talk, while stilted seeming, is charged with nervous energy and a hint of desire. Though he leaves the bar where they meet to see the house she is staying in, the moment passes and something fizzles out and he leaves relatively quickly. The sampler left off just when I wanted to know more, and I am so glad I pre-ordered the finished book!
From the first page you are back in Rooney's cool, arch prose with cerebral, reserved characters. I worried that this new novel would be just the same as her previous too, though I loved both Conversations with Friends and Normal People. There are definite similarities, and Rooney's style is consistent across her novels and shorter works, as well as her continuing preoccupation with class, gender, desire and labour. However, while a lesser author might be accused of rehashing old material or being samey, Rooney is a really gifted writer and her returning to a subject or style is indicative of her interest in and interrogation of these ideas, not lack of inspiration and talent.

Rooney's dialogue remains genuine and warm; you can coast through passages as breezily as you would a conversation with friends. However, there seems to be a coldness, a distance in this first passage - like the reader is an outsider looking in. No clue as to what their mindsets are, what is left unsaid. I can imagine this will endear some and deter others. Intriguing first chapter - I'm eager to read more.
