How I wish this was the full book! I was completely drawn in to the opening.. Sally Rooney has undoubtedly managed to get me intrigued in this book. The only issue is the absence of quotes for the dialogues. But for that, I can't wait find out how it will all go for Alice and Felix.

Brilliantly written, as ever, erudite and intellectual.. I don't imagine this will win over detractors but I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the book!

With only the first chapter to go on, there’s not much I can say just yet.
However, having read Normal People & Conversations with Friends, you can already tell it’s a Sally Rooney novel through the way it’s written & the way the character is telling the story.
I am intrigued enough to want to read more so will be waiting for the release to continue reading and be able to give a proper review.

I love Sally Rooney and this book is no exception. It makes you think about life and choices and how we all end up where we do.

Beautiful World, Where Are You (Extract)
Author, Sally Rooney
Publisher: Farrar, Straus, and Giroux
Pub date: September 7, 2021

I am so excited for Sally Rooney's latest coming of age novel. I thoroughly enjoyed Normal People, but have not yet read Conversations with Friends. She is a master storyteller of friends and lovers, who beautifully captures her characters in an intriguing and unique way. I did not realize that "extract" meant only a quick preview into Rooney's novel and of course was so disappointed at the end of chapter one! However, what I read so far pulled me right in.

Alice, a novelist, is renting a large home in a seaside town where she meets Felix, who works in a warehouse, at a bar. The two easily begin a back and forth banter and Alice then invites Felix back to her rental for a "tour" of the home that he knew growing up, but had never before been inside. I can tell that the relationship that will unfold between these two will be insightful and complex.

I look forward to completing her novel, Beautiful World, Where Are You later this week. Although very difficult to rate a book after only reading one chapter, I will attempt a 4- 4.5 star as Rooney is an excellent storyteller.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher Farrar, Straus, and Giroux for the opportunity to preview this novel.

Quite gutted it was not the full book. But I am certainly intrigued by the story and would definitely be buying it. It pulls you in and you are curious to read the rest. Certainly a great extract and i am sure it will be a great book just like Sally Rooney's other books.

The first chapter is intriguing, definitely, but it’s Rooney’s choice to have a cool distance between narration and characters that I’m most interested in - “a woman sat in a hotel bar” - because this drip-feeding of information feels like an interesting departure from her previous work. I guess I should be grateful that I got this so close to the publication date because I won’t have to wait long to see where it goes!

A really descriptive first chapter of the surroundings of the action from this chapter and with enough dialogue .from Alice and Felix to make you want to read more. Now, I, definitely, want to read the rest of the book as well

Sampler received from Netgalley - this is a v refreshing opening to the book and already seems slightly different to Rooney's usual style, in that it is mostly dialogue-based. We learn a lot about Alice and Felix while they are on their date by their body language and the way they speak to each other, almost like an exercise in character building. While it doesn't flow as seamlessly as Normal People did, I've a feeling it will be pretty quick to fall into as a reader. Cannot wait to read the rest when the book is published!

Thanks to NetGalley and Faber & Faber for the extract.

I was a bit disappointed to see that it was only Chapter 1, but I enjoyed the beginning so far and I am excited for the release of this book. This book gives me Normal People vibes and I cannot wait to see where the rest of this book goes.

I was gifted an extract of this book, the part that I read was well written with beautiful imagery.

What I did read was a solid starting point of, what I would imagine, a really good book.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ok yes, chapter one has got its claws in. I just can't resist the cagey nuance of a first date. As far as setting the scene, I'm eager to read the rest and find out how/if these characters' paths cross again.

Definetly intrigued by this extract of Sally Rooneys new book and I would love to read on when able, to find out more about these interesting characters, will definetly be buying when released. Thank You to publisher and Netgalley.

Honestly, it is impossible to write a review on the basis of a chapter - and a short one at that. The writing is taut, the characters are introduced in a way that makes me want to read more. What more can I say? Any more detailed feedback can really only be provided after reading the rest. As first chapters go, I enjoyed it. I would have cheerfully read further if the extract had not ended. The missing fifth star is no doubt due to the slight meanness of only providing one chapter - I have no doubt the novel itself deserves five, but how would I know?

After reading the extract, I am left intrigued and desperate to read the rest. Sally Rooneys wonderful writing is immediately noted.
In the chapter I read we are introduced to Alice who is a writer. She is waiting in a bar for her date, Felix.
Rooney’s writing creates these mysterious characters perfectly. They are flawed, awkward and you are left wanting to know more about them.
Their date ends with Alice inviting Felix back to her house but their encounter there is strange. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the extract.

Okay, I'm definitely intrigued! After reading this preview, I definitely need to get on with the book! It seems so frustratingly beautiful, its hard for me to think I won't be able to read it until the pub date! I NEED IT!

The first chapter of Sally Rooney's new novel 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' intensely hooks the reader into the world of Alice, a successful Irish writer who has moved into a place by the sea to write a new book. As this is only one chapter it does contain a fantastic interaction between Alice and a local man named Felix, with whom she shares drinks and shows him her seaside house. I can already see a dynamic opening up and I am desperate to get my hands on the completed novel!

I really enjoy with publishers offer excerpts of upcoming books, especially bigger releases like this. Sally Rooney's writing really works for me and I cannot wait to check out the full book.

Not a lot we can understand from one chapter, especially when it comes to Sally Rooney who once again explores complex characters and their complicated relationships. Can't wait to read more by this prominent author!

This ARC was a one chapter excerpt and whilst it’s not possible to provide an overall review with one chapter, I will say that the first chapter does pull you in and leave you wanting to find out more about both characters and how their relationship will develop.

Very clearly in Rooney’s style and I’m sure previous fans will be all over this one!
