It was a pleasant read. The author did a great job of world building and character depth, rather than just following the HEA romance formula. Would read more from this author!
I have been a fan of Erica's books. Perfect female heroine and I really liked this book. Thank you NetGalley for this opportunity
Erica Ridley has captured the essence of the regency era and is one of the best authors in the space. I am always excited to see a new title, and Lord of the Masquerade was no exception.
I really loved this one. Both Unity and Julian are excellently capable, nuanced characters, and I loved seeing sparks fly between them as they navigate the work that goes into organising extravagant parties. The behind-the-scenes of the masquerades really appealed to my event-planning heart – it’s so much fun to see how hard they work to get things to look effortless. It’s a fun and sparky romance that feels like it packs a novel’s worth of character work into just a novella!
Emotionally thrilling roller coaster filled with witty and engaging charters, fun dialog, heart racing twists and exciting supernatural turns. A edge of your seat action packed adventure from beginning to emotional end.
This is a light, fun romance. A great vacation read. I really love the representation of black people in this era since it is so infrequently seen. Unity is such a fantastic, strong, determined character. I loved her independence, intelligence, and fearlessness. The Duke of Lambley's backstory was a bit cliche but still enjoyable.
A historical romance with a modern feeling plot. The decadent parties and the characters felt like they could be transferred to current days. As someone who sometime feels a sense of detachment with historical books, this perspective made it more enjoyable for me.
A favorite for sure.
I've read many books by Ridley and the more I read her work she gets better and better. I like that she is venturing out to more diverse stories and characters. This book has tension and steam. I love this book and the series. The relationship built between Unity and Julian was a one to remember.
Unity & Julian
The night Butler
The white cousin (grandfather's money) was a loan lender
The theatre women
Solomon?
Julian's friends
The accident/need for control (age 8)
Julian's negligent Uncle

Highly recommend
Thank you to WebMotion for the opportunity to read and share my thoughts of this book.
I have read a lot of books by Erica Ridley but this one didn't work for me. I found the plot to be highly unbelievable and I couldn't get past that. The characters had a lot of chemistry but that couldn't save the story for me.
Unity Thorne wants to open her own masquerade club. The Duke Of Lambley hosts weekly exclusive masquerade parties that are famous in the ton. Unity shows up at his door hoping to gain an invitation to the party so that she can study the way that his parties operate and get some ideas for her own club. The Duke Of Lambley has a strict list of rules that he follows, he knows he needs to find a wife and has a list of things that she must be which Unity is not.
I really enjoyed this one. I liked the characters and the settings. The masquerade parties gave me real Gatsby vibes which I loved. The Duke Of Lambley is a great hero and I loved seeing him slowly break some of his rules for the heroine. This was a really fun read and I loved the chemistry between the two characters. After reading this I plan to go back and read the other books from this series.
Another outstanding performance by this author, she never fails to entertain. Unity and Julian were an entertaining and sexy couple. Their progressing relationship was like an adventure on every occasion. They are two strong-willed lovable characters who personify the meaning of sexy, sassy, sweet, scintillating, and sensual.
Very well written with spirited characters. Historical Romance at its best.
Many thanks to WebMotion and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another good romance from Erica Ridley.
A good, easy read. Entertaining. Aristocracy, dresses, balls, glitz, glamour and romance.
Thank you Netgalley for this copy of Lord of the Masquerade in exchange for my honest review.
I'm going to be honest here, I started and stopped this book many times over the last few months. I just could not get into it. I didn't connect with the characters and it did not grab me like other books do. At 40% complete, I finally threw in the towel and decided not to finish. Would not recommend.
What a fun adventure to read. This is a cute story with lots of adventure and romance. Super fast pace and great characters. Very entertaining,
Ms. Ridley has fast become one of my favorite Regency authors. Her books are filled with charm, wit, romance, and fun. This book was especially refreshing to read because of the interracial aspect which you don't often find in a Regency romance. This one really hit the mark! Unity is a feisty, strong-minded, intelligent, full of enthusiasm kind of girl. She is just a breath of fresh air. She is the exact opposite of the stuffy and arrogant Duke of Lambley, Julian. He likes being in control. Unity was exactly the kind of girl Julian needed to loosen him up a bit. Their interactions and witty banter had me smiling and at times laughing out loud. This book captured my attention from the start and had me engrossed all the way through. Although a shorter story, the characters were well-crafted and the storyline flowed smoothly. Ms. Ridley really does a great job of helping you visualize the story through her writing and brings the characters and story to life. This was a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend for all Regency lovers!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Erica has done it again!! I love see African American people in these stories. I loved the determination of Unity to rise to the top. I really did like the Duke and Unity together from the start. Even though I would not have forgiven him so soon for taking the steps to make things right. I do understand the fact that he did it for love.
This is my first book by this author, and I just could not put it down. Wow-loved our lovebirds! Our hero is the Duke of Lambley. He has everything under control and hosts the perfect masquerades. Enter our heroine--Unity. She upends his orderly world--his life. It was so entertaining to watch these 2 get together. Great story. I am going to read more from this series and author. Loved it!
I quite enjoy picking up a novel knowing whatever path the story takes, I'm going to enjoy it. This was the perfect read for my mood last night and was equal parts adorable, humorous, and sexy. I loved the interplay and needling between the characters and appreciated the fine line between presenting a decadent, scandalous lifestyle and explicitly showing it chapter on end. Overall Ridley delivers another enjoyable romp with all the elements I've come to enjoy in historical romance.
Another fun read from Erica Ridley. The characters were interesting and the storyline fun. There's always a good time to be had at a house party!
Thank you Erica Ridley and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
