This is a new series by Carrie Ann Ryan who is known for her strong characters and world building in her stories. This story did not disappoint. You have Sage coming into her aunt’s town that, for whatever reason, she has never visited, a strange storm a sexy fellow that turns into a bear…and many other strange happenings. Good start to a new series by a strong storyteller.

Dawn Unearthed was a very enjoyable read, however what I thought might be appropriate for YA definitely took a turn I was not expecting. I liked the characters, storyline and setting however there was a bit too much lip chewing on Sage’s part. It made her seem more juvenile during the intense scenes, than powerful. This had elements of Twilight/50 Shades/Charmed all rolled into one power packed story. I really enjoyed the book, and may get the second in the series.

An all new paranormal series begins by one of my favorite authors, a series filled with Magic, danger and the connection between mates that is undeniable. For those of us that are fans of other Carrie Ann Ryan PNR series, you might be going into this one with a few expectations, but let me tell you now, LEAVE THEM BEHIND. Yes the series has shifters, yes there are witches, but other than that this world is unique and truly a world all it’s own. Sage Reed is heading to Ravenwood to see her Aunt, determined to make the small town into her new home, despite the rumors of magic that she’s heard about the town all her life. Just as she arrives a hellacious storm hits the town and she finds herself stranded on the side of the road, with no way to get into town, but then the world begins to get even stranger. Rome Baker has no idea that the sexy witch that just saved his life is the niece of one of the witches in town, all he knows is that he feels and instant connection to her and he won’t let her get away. As Sage learns more and more about her destiny and the powers that she has been denying her whole life, which are now becoming uncontrollable, she needs to lean on the sexy Bear-shifter as her touchstone. Together with their friends and family, Sage and Rome have to defeat and evil that is back to try to take over their town, but like all evils, the darkness can easily seep into the cracks in the town’s foundations and surprising villains are uncovered. In the end, their love must hold against tragedy, deadly foes, and the long-foretold darkness that is coming for the town of Ravenswood, if Sage and Rome or any of their friends want a chance at an HEA. OMFG how to describe how much I loved this story?! Sage was the quintessential newbie witch, learning to trust not just her powers but her own strength as a woman, as she discovered more and more about herself. As tragedy after tragedy struck their crew, Sage found a way to not only strand strong, but to prove her worth and fight back for those she loved. She was sweet and loving with her family and Rome, intelligent and brave as she found her place in the town, and refused to give up when her enemies tried to tear her down. I also loved how committed she instantly was to protecting a town she’d never even seen and to the people that instantly stole her heart, despite her beginning disbelief in magic. Rome was the sexiest bear-shifter and also one of the best male leads I’ve read in a while. Yes he was strong and alpha, but he also showed vulnerability enough that he wasn’t unattainable or devoid of lovability. Dealing with his own issues within his pack didn’t prevent him from stepping up and wooing his mate, helping her find her path, and protecting the town as a whole when he could easily have left them to their own devices. I will say I cried a hell of a lot in this story but I am coming to understand that Carrie Ann likes to make her readers ball their eyes out at least twice in each story just for grins and giggles before she gives the couples the happy ending they deserve. The fire and passion between these two is there from the beginning and despite all that is thrown at them their feelings and fire never seems to waver, even when it doesn’t make a lot of sense to either of them. I am positively DYING for the rest of this series and to see Sage’s sister witches find their Happy and of them to ultimately kick evil bad guy ass together. Another all new world of magic and mayhem that instantly drew me in and hasn’t let me go yet.

An amazing read with good character development. The premise was a bit lagging , on the whole it is a good read. Eagerly waiting for the next book in the series.

This is the first book in an exciting new series.
While Sage is not my favorite character it's the word building I fell in love with. I want to know more about this mystical town. Each book will feature a new central couple so I won't have to suffer Sage too much.

I have no patience and I would not stand for someone not giving me the full story particularly if it impacted my life in a huge way so I can understand some of Sage's frustration.

This author does not shy away from killing main characters. I was surprised at two of the deaths and did not see one in particular coming. I won't say too much as it would spoil the twist.

I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series

A great start to a new series. I really enjoyed this book, the world building slowed the pace down a little but once it got going it was a very enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to more!

We get Sage Reed, moving to a new town with her aunt, then he meets Rome Baker a Bear shifter, and things get interesting. I really liked their interactions, the series started in a good way, with lots of action, and the plotline will keep you on edge. Definitely would like to see where this story leads.

This is the start of a new paranormal series for Carrie Ann Ryan!

We get Sage, who’s return to ARA wood reveals she is a very powerful witch and her love interest Rome, the alpha bear shifter in town. We also get a bit of everyone else including witches, shifters of all sorts, a warlock and various fae as they fight toward the survival of their town against a mysterious evil.

She started this book of great snd I loved the world she is building. However, Sage is really annoying. She complains a lot! All about what she doesn’t know, why people won’t just tell her everything, etc. I did like the rest of the characters and while I guess this one is about technically about Sage, since it’s the first in a series we get a whole lot of all the characters too so it’s still enjoyable! Overall a good start to a series. I needed you giving it 4 stars but it’s probably closer to a 3.5.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Oh how I have missed a Carrie Ann Ryan PNR read. I am so glad to see her back to her roots here. We start off our new Supernatural universe with a bang. There is drama and mystery. There are great characters and some you want to strangle but you are still interested in their futures. This author is not afraid to kill off characters you are attached to to further the story. It’s bittersweet but you just cannot turn away.

I’m very excited to see the next 2 books in this series.

First I want to thank Author Collective 20 for approving me for an ARC via NetGalley!

Dawn Unearthed was my first Carrie Ann Ryan book and I really like it, and can't wait to read more of her books.
In this book, we follow Sage who after losing her husband, decides to take back her life in hand and following an invitation from her aunt, decides to move to Ravenwood, to open a bakery. But this city is very different from what Sage thinks and it will discover many secrets about the world and her family. She will also meet a man, Rome, who will help her to advance in this new life.

This is a paranormal romance and I really appreciated the fact that she is not aware of the supernatural world but especially that she learns that she is part of it and that her reaction is authentic. We do not have a discovery that lasts two pages and then after all seems normal. No, here we have a real development in her reaction to this announcement. I also very much liked the couple of Sage and Rome, the evolution of their relations is not forced

The only thing that bothers me is that the sequel will no longer be focused on Sage and Rome, We are going to have a change of couple and I remain on my end because there were for me still many things to see for their history and I became attached to them and I would have preferred not to have a change.
But otherwise it was a very good book with many twists and action, so I recommend it!

I agree with everyone who started out their reviews with “Finally! Carrie Ann has written a paranormal again” because it’s about time. I became a fan of Carrie Ann early in her writing and I have watched her grow into the writer that brought this story to life.

Sage is an incredible character. Sometimes I wanted to hug her, sometimes I wanted to talk to her and sometimes I wanted to be her. As she learned her history and became the witch she was meant to be I cheered for her. Rome is the perfect mate for her. But I felt every feeling she had as she discovered what fans of paranormal only wish they could actually experience.

I am so excited to read more of this series.

As a fan of Carrie Ann Ryan's PNR works, I'm so happy that she's gifting us a new PNR series. I "devoured" this book in one sitting. As first book in series goes, I think Dawn Unearthed was a good start. Sure it has information dumping, which is quite normal as we're being introduced to characters in this new series. The world building is solid, then again Carrie Ann Ryan is wonderful when it comes to creating new worlds. I cannot wait for the next book!

Thanks NetGalley for the advance copy, thoughts above are all my own.

Great start to a new series! This book has a little bit of everything - witches, fae, and different types of shifters. Sage moves to her aunts town and gets more than she bargained for. She saves a bear, finds out shes a witch, and then the darkness comes rolling in. This town has tons of secrets and I cant wait to find out more of them in the next book!

This is the first of a new paranormal series for this author. The book takes place in Ravenwood--a small town hiding paranormals in plain site. Witches and Warlocks, Fae, Shifters--- a bit of everything for everyone. I love these type of books.

This one gives us great world building. Unfortunately, the world building comes at the expense of our heroine, Sage. She knows nothing of her past or of the supernatural elements in Ravenwood. She spends the first almost half of the book complaining about what she doesn't know and how come she doesn't know and why won't everyone just lay it all out for her? I found her irritating. Honestly, those who read paranormal are used to a bit of the suspension of disbelief. These stories don't read like contemporary romance. Things don't need to be as "believable". In my experience, once the element is explained, the reaction may be surprise but then it typically follows with understanding. I found Sage annoying most of the time.

The rest of the town and Rome and his whole pack were really enjoyable to read. I liked the suspense elements. There will be an ongoing story arc about the bad guys. I am looking forward to that resolving.

Overall, a good start to the series. I will read more as i enjoyed the premise laid out.

This is a good start to a new series. I have liked all of Carrie Ann's paranormal series. As most 1st books in a series do it introduces all the characters so the main couple doesn't get a lot of space but it was good balance.
The h seemed a little whiny sometimes but i guess it was justified. It is a fated mates story but consent is discussed.

Dawn Unearthed by Carrie Ann Ryan was the first book I’ve read by this author. When I saw it was about witches I couldn’t wait to start it. Unfortunately, I felt like I was reading something that had already been started. I actually checked to make sure this was the first book in the series. I guess I would have liked to see a better introduction of the characters and the story. It was like it was all laid out immediately with no build up. I did enjoy the characters and the story, I just felt like there was a lot going on all at once.
I think this is definitely a good start to a new series and will be interested in seeing where the next book takes us.

Thank you to NetGalley and Author Collective 20 for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Ravenwood Coven series. Sage moves to Ravenwood to start a bakery and be near her Aunt Penelope. Once there the secrets start unraveling. The premise was there, but for me the story didn’t hit the mark. It as a little confusing and slow moving at times. There was plenty of romance and action. Which is great and two of my must haves. Not sure I will continue reading more of the series.
