Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book. Idyllic location that set the tone of the book to perfection. Perfect seasonal book to get you in the mood for the festive season.
This was a shame I really enjoyed all the other books by this author but this book was boring and I choose to DNF The book
The kind of book that it's so easy to curl up with on a cold day that you've blinked and suddenly you're halfway through and feel as though no time has past at all. Not a newfound favourite, but a solid read nevertheless - the kind of friends to lovers story where you're as invested in the romance as you are in both of the characters' individual journeys. I thought the two of them complimented one another really well.
If you happen to be a Shakespeare person or a Christmas person, you'd enjoy this book more than most as well!
A festive romantic tale! The story was good, it was enjoyable to listen to how the two main characters got together. Especially good if you like a bit of Shakespeare!
The narration took a bit of getting used to. It was difficult to keep up with two narrators providing different voices for the same characters, but it was ok after a while.
3.5*
It was a sweet chaste romcom, showing the trajectory of a relationship proceeding at its pace in the month of December, a tale of healing and supporting each other in a way it didn't feel intrusive or overwhelming, but rather teaching the other the truths they were straying away from without even trying to.
Rory angered me for a while for being a complete idiot but well, the ending made me like him again. And I loved how real Belle felt, how her insecurities blended well with her attitude, and how she changed.
In all it was an enjoyable read, and the narrators completely justified the experience.
I absolutely adored this book ;it came at just the right time in my life when I needed a bit of TLC.
Whilst there are some serious issues in the book (bereavement, illness, dysfunctional families and financial difficulties), everything is handled with a light touch. The overwhelming message is the importance of valuing and nourishing supportive loving relationships and friendship, as they can help ride out life's down moments.
Rory and Belle are just delightful and their friendship and subsequent slow burn romance is perfect. Their mutual support and encouragement allows the friendship to develop, but also encourages them to be individually brave. as they start to trust each other more they open up about their fears and insecurities I found myself cheering each of them on from the sidelines and was really rooting for them to get together romantically.
Of course it would be remiss of me not to mention Shakespeare who features throughout the book. It's clear that Kitty Wilson really knows her stuff and I enjoyed the enthusiasm that Belle had for the bard.
The sheer joy of the book and the generous sprinkling of Christmas magic really captured my heart and I would like to thank the publishers and NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review.
I love a narrative that spans a certain length of time, so Every Day in December was a hit for me here. Every date was also clearly laid out, so I never had any confusion as to when in the book it was.
The book is dual narrative, which was also well laid out so there was never any question of who was speaking when.
I loved the idea of spending a month proving how wonderful Christmas is. It was a lovely read in the lead up to the festive season, a kind of modernisation, and loose retelling, of A Christmas Carol.
Belle is a Shakespearean expert, so the quips and quotes that appeared throughout the book were wonderful, and all fit fantastically into the narrative.
Quite a few tough topics, like breast cancer and the Me Too movement, are dealt with here. I felt they were written with great care and respect to those affected.
I loved the audiobook narrators. Joe Jameson was a particular highlight - when a Bristolian character has a Bristolian accent, it brings a level of realness to it all.
Every Day in December by Kitty Wilson is a slow burn transformative friendship that slowly morphs into more.
Belle has a passion for Shakeaspeare, but works dead end jobs while working on her Shakespeare project adapting the plays and sonnets for schools. She is the daughter of a celebrity chef, a man who dimisses and ignores her, while favouring her younger sister.
Her old university classmate Rory is grieving the loss of his girlfriend Jessica five years previously, and has escaped to Australia. He's been living a solitary life, eschewing any relationships because he feels he's cheating.
Their paths cross again when Rory, a reputation management consultant, returns on family business, and is hired by Belle's father to fix his reputation after 'Me Too' complaints.
Rory can't help but feel drawn to Belle, but you see the push/pull of his growing feelings towards her as he feels the guilt and pain of his loss. Belle, whose relationships have always been short term losers, drawn to the kindness, consideration and general solidity of Rory, but she too is feeling the push/pull as she feels unworthy of real love but can also recognise Rory's pain.
Katy Sobey and Joe Jameson were the perfect choice for narrating ‘Every Day in December’. Both actors sound like the right age to capture late 20s Belle and Rory. They both have beautiful, soothing voices. I bought my own copy of this audiobook on their voices alone.
I wanted something cosy, easy and uplifting to ease me into these cold mornings while I get ready for work and this was perfect. One month to prove that Christmas is great? Sign me up!
This book follows the growing friendship between Belle and Rory. Belle has lost her job and is a disappointment to her family. Rory lives in Australia, but is home for the month of December of a family emergency. Belle loves Christmas, Rory is at the opposite end of the spectrum. Although their paths had crossed many years ago, they had not clicked, at all. Meeting again, they realize that their initial impressions were not accurate. Deciding there was more to each other than they thought, they begin to spend time together, getting to know one another. Will they act on their developing feelings, or will they remain friends. Follow this pair as they spend every day in December together.
Belle and Rory were just adorable, and great main characters. The connection between them was heartwarming. I enjoyed that we got to follow the characters over the month to see how each of them was helping the other to heal and reach their potential. Of course neither one thinks the other is attracted to them, so they are able to build a strong friend relationship, always a great start to something else. Both of them have some baggage and insecurities that they need to deal with to move forward. We get both Rory's and Belle's POV. I love Belle's chapters, as her inner voice is hilarious. I like seeing not only how their relationship develops, but how they grow as individuals. All of this is wrapped up in Christmas cheer. I enjoyed reading about the different festive activities and events they saw and participated in around Bath and Bristol. I also enjoyed Belle's love of Shakespeare and how she tried to make it accessible to the children in her community. This is a book full of Christmas Cheer, Friendship, Guilt, moving forward, but also illuminating that not everyone has a Merry Christmas. I recommend this to those who are looking for a Festive story with a bit of meat to it. I did a read/listen with this book and enjoyed both formats. Narrators Katy Sobey and Joe Jameson give voice to Belle and Rory. I enjoyed their expression, tone and emotion which added to my enjoyment of the story.
Enjoyed this listen, modern and festive
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest feedback.
I enjoyed listening to a Christmas book at autumn! A fun, well-written, pleasurable, cute romance with a story that flows... A seemingly simple story that will definitely make you think! I found the Shakespearean references really unique.
I loved this book! The main characters were so loveable and the story was so well thought out and well-rounded. Many flawed characters were portrayed in the perfect way and it really added to the overall story. The romance was SO dreamy! The accents within the audiobook definitely helped visualise the characters and made them all the more loveable!
I LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS.
The perfect mix of such deep emotions, fun and CHRISTMAS festive fun! This is my favourite 2021 Christmas read so far!!
I have just finished listening to the audiobook of Every Day in December by Kitty Wilson and I let out an audible sigh.
It was just lovely - everything you could want in a festive read.
The narration was great - sometimes I find them too slow and pop it on 1.25 speed.
"I spent my whole childhood waiting to be an adult and now I am, it's not all it's cracked up to be."
Rory and Belle have very different opinions on Christmas.
Belle loves it - despite the fact she's lost her job, her family are icy as the weather and things aren't really looking that great for her right now. But still, she believes in a little Christmas Magic. Rory however, can't look at winter the same way since he lost Jess, and finds the festive season something to endure rather than enjoy. When these two old college friends bump into each other out of the blue, they might need more than mistletoe to melt Rorys heart.
This was perfectly cosy winter romance (despite it being the height of summer right now!)
With all your favourite tropes - grumpy person vs bubbly person, friends-to-lovers, the grand declarations - and while this made it slightly predictable it turned the whole thing into something familiar and warm. The characters were well written, I loved the supporting characters especially Belles best friend and God Daughter - their relationship was truly beautiful all the way through. While a cute read, there is some dark subject matter lurking around - including cancer, death, and complex family dynamics that were handled well but for me didn't quite fit with what I was expecting from this story.
If you're looking for a christmas romance as sweet as a candy cane - you've found one.
I loved the dual narration - giving a unique voice to Belle and Rory, the narrators were clear and easy to listen to, although I would've liked a little more drama to their reading at times.
Thank you to Kitty Wilson and One More Chapter for an advanced reviewers copy of this title.
Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Let me start by saying I love the cover of this book, I seem to have a think of cartoon like covers. I adore a Christmas book at any time of the year, especially now in late September when the nights start drawing in. It puts me in the mood for twinkling lights and mulled wine.
In the book we are introduced to Belle, she love December and believes that magic can happen if you just believe. Born into a wealthy family, she is like the black sheep and a disappointment to her parents as she seems to go from job to job, Having recently lost another job she is determined to keep up beat and keep her faith in the season. Rory is an old friend of Belles from colleague he hates December as he lost someone years ago and hasn't quite gotten over it. They bump into each other as he has returned from Australia to help care for his Mother, and the pair learn to get to know each other again as adults. The care and compassion they show to each other is really lovely. It is a slow plot and an even slow burn romance but to be honest for me Rory's inability to get over the events five years ago, and his sometimes grump attitude really grated on my nerves. I know its tragic and he is going through a lot but come on. It made me feel like the book was longer than it is. The story is cute, heartwarming and lovely but by the time to got to that part I was so sick of Rory and his moaning the romance didn't have the same impact on me as it usually would.
I was given. copy of the audiobook, I have to say the narrators did an excellent job. Whilst the romance part of the book didn't warm the cockles of my heart, the book definitely helped feel a bit of that Christmas spirit.
Thanks to Netgalley for my audio version of Every Day in December, read very well by both narrators. This is, of course, a Christmas romance, a 'will they, won't they?' novel . Although well written and showcasing some great characters the eye rollong and ffs frustrating moments almost became too much, only to be rescued, far to near the end, in such a happy jubilant manner that I had tears rolling down my face whilst out on my walk, listening. An almost perfect Christmas story.
Once granted the privilege to read/ listen to this christmas book I was initially a little dubious. The sun was shining and the thought of christmas a little way off.
However we are introduced to Belle Wilde on the 1st of December , who like me, loves christmas. Despite her run of misfortune and employment problems she still manages to immediately project her christmas elf spirit beautifully. Belles narrator began by hitting a few weird notes with me. Has anyone read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine a Novel by Gail Honeyman? I loved this book so much but Eleanor is let's say a little odd and Initially I had Eleanor feels as Belle also seemed a little strange as she desperately tries to prove to her arrogant, well known in the public eye father, and doormat of a mother, her worthiness and passion for her love of Shakespeare and her being a good, kind person, that she is worthy of their love and recognition, like her sister.
But oh I was so wrong...
Coincidence and chance brings Rory Walter's, an old uni buddy, back into Belles world as he returns from Australia following a 5 year life changing loss and back home to his dear mother who needs him following a medical diagnosis. (She is a right character by the way!)
Rory doesnt do Christmas but soon finds Belles enthusiasm infectious and even healing.
The plot is very cleverly focused on the 31 days of December in chapters from both characters perspectives and is so so adorable and unpredictable.
There are many twists that I didn't see coming with such humour and even some poignoint thought provoking moments that I'm sure many can relate to.
You learn to love both characters so much as the narration of both Belle and Rory are superb as they journey through December in a magical way.
This is a beautiful rom com with a sprinkle of christmad magic and humor and an extra coating of Shakespeare! I loved the addition of learning a bit of history!
I adored this book so much! If you like a bit of chick lit this is for you! It sure will be on my christmas recommendation list and defo in my daughters Christmas sack!
Thank you to Netgalley and
HarperCollins U.K. Audio One More Chapter for allowing me this advanced Audio copy of this book.
Thanks also to Kitty Wilson for writing a goodun! And applauds to Katy Sobey and Joe Jameson who read this story beautifully.
As I often say in my reviews, being registered blind I missed 'reading' but books like these really do make me smile when the narrators bring them to life! I will be looking out for more novels by both the author and narrators.
Thank you!
I have also posted to #goodreads as always. Link to follow!
If you are reading this review and looking fo a light, happy and easy to read or listen to winter or Christmas story then you must take up this one. It has lovely characters of Belle, Rory and Maisy who you will just want to get to know. The shakespear project Belle is undertaking is an interesting addition and gives more substance to the book meaning that if, like me, you are reading this outside of Christmas time, it is not just a onesided story.
I won't expain the plot here as the 'blurb' does it better without giving any more than nessecary away.
Give it a go, you won't be dissappointed.
