A bad accident in February leaves Amy with a head injury that causes amnesia - she has no memories of her life from the previous August onwards. Her GP friend Lisa tells her she has a boyfriend, Dr Jack Stewart, a consultant paediatrician, but she cannot remember him. After her release from the hospital, she travels to Val d’Isère to celebrate her 30th birthday, leaving London from St Pancras station and staying in a mountain lodge owned by her Aunt Esme. Her friends Jenna, Lisa and her mum Martha are with her when Jack, who has been ghosting her, turns up on the doorstep. David and Lewis, the husbands of Lisa and Jenna, are also expected to arrive.
This is a really enjoyable psychological thriller. It’s well-plotted, fast-paced and engrossing. The setting in Val d’Isère is vividly described and the February weather conditions give atmosphere and chills to the unfolding drama. There are excellent, though awkward dynamics between the characters, layering the interest. Amy’s post head injury amnesia and resulting paranoia are central to the tale whilst the reader ponders what could be true. Her building dread is conveyed well, there are some good plot twists and the ending is unpredictable. 100% recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Pan Macmillan via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

A brilliant book full of mystery right from page one.
It just sucks you in and spits you right back out again.
Spooky and just the right amount of intrigue to keep you turning the pages.
Highly recommended 5 stars from me.

Amy is fiercely independent, with a high-powered career, a flat of her own and tight-knit friendships. But as she approaches her thirtieth birthday, she can’t help but rue the one thing she doesn’t have – a relationship.
When Amy comes around following a serious fall, she doesn’t remember anything from the last six months. Not even the upcoming skiing holiday at her aunt’s luxurious chalet in Val d’Isère with her mum and best friends to celebrate her birthday. And she certainly doesn’t remember being swept off her feet by the handsome Dr Jack Stewart . . .
Jack is the full package – charming, caring and devoted to Amy. Everyone is smitten with him, but as the week goes on, Amy begins to find Jack’s presence chilling. Is her broken mind playing tricks? Or is the perfect boyfriend really too good to be true?
This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own hone\st voluntary review.

A great psychological thriller. Amy wakes up after an accident with no knowledge of the previous six months. And she certainly doesn’t recall the handsome doctor who appears to be her boyfriend. Something isn’t quite right… read it and find out!!

After reading a couple of books by Michelle Frances a while ago, I didn’t hesitate when I had the opportunity to read and review The Boyfriend.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book - I think I had a certain vision in my mind of how the story would pan out but I was quite far off the mark which made reading more enjoyable. I really like an unreliable narrator which is what we’re given in the form of Amy, who wakes up in hospital with no memory of the past six months.
Fast-paced, chilling and quite dark in places, this is a psychological thriller that I’m sure will be popular with fans of the creepy.
Big thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

An amazing book. When Amy comes round after an accident, she discovers a boyfriend that she can't remember. Jack is the perfect boyfriend in every way. On a birthday skiing trip her mother and friends are captivated by him. Is he too good to be true? As events unfold, everything is not all as it seems. Gripping right till the end.

Amy is approaching her thirtieth birthday. Whilst she is a highly independent woman with a high-flying career and her own flat, the one thing she doesn’t have -which her mum in particular doesn’t let her forget - is a relationship.
Following a serious fall Amy cannot remember anything from the last six months, which means she cannot remember meeting her boyfriend Dr Jack Stewart!
The doctors allow Amy to go ahead with her plans- a weekend at her auntie’s chalet in Val D’lsere- with her mum and best friends.
Everyone is smitten with Jack, but as Amy begins to get her memory back, is he as perfect as he seems?
The Boyfriend is one of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a long time! I was hooked the whole way through. The storyline is well crafted, and I have not come across anything quite like it before. I have seen some people say it is a little too far-fetched but isn’t that the point of fiction?
Michelle Frances’s descriptions of the characters led me to really emphasise with them. There is a point where Amy has a different belief to all the other characters, and I could really feel myself feeling the anxiety and desperation she was facing in the situation and almost felt like I was there with her.
The story is left on a cliff-hanger which makes me really hope there is a sequel. I also think it would make a thrilling Netflix series.
Overall, The Boyfriend is chilling and suspenseful; a rollercoaster of a thriller. 5 stars.
Thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Michelle Francis pulls it off again; this is another exciting toxic, twisty tale.
I want to thank NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and author Michelle Frances for a pre-publication copy to review.

A very good read. Lots of twists and turns. I liked that I couldn't predict anything. I was still guessing and not right. Did not see that coming. 4*.

Great read, kept me gripped throughout. Looking forward to more from this author in the future. 4 stars

I absolutely loved The Boyfriend and could not put it down, so much so that I read it in one sitting. It had plenty of twists and turns, some that I did see coming but it did not detract from my enjoyment. I highly recommend it and look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my ARC.

I got this ARC way back I Aug 2021, I don’t know why I delayed reading this – this was superbly fabulous!
Amy, a very independent woman who has her own house, a great career ends up having a nasty fall one day and when she wakes up she is told that she has lost all her memory from 6 months ago, she simply cannot remember anything at all – not even her boyfriend Dr. Jack Stewart. She gets an ok to travel and goes to celebrate her birthday at her aunt’s chalet along with her mom and her friends.
Everyone who meets Dr. Jack is smitten by him, but as Amy’s memory starts coming back she realizes strange things and starts to worry that either her memories are playing with her or something more sinister seems to be going on.
This one kept me guessing until almost 80% into the book, given the ending I am curious if there’s a sequel to this one

This was brilliant. The dual timeliness worked so well as there was a level of tension as you knew what was going to happen but not how. It was such a page turner.
So glad I have been married for 30 years and don't need to do any of this but will be having a conversation with my daughter.
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

This book was not for me. Actually, I was annoyed by it. Amy is thirty and allegedly a lawyer. But she acts like a teenager and I really can’t imagine her in court fighting a case. She is inconsistent and childish. And she has an awful mother and horrible friends who never had her back. The story gave me strong YA-vibes and I did not like that. All this stuff about having a boyfriend and her mother nagging her about being single – it was just awful. I mean, it which century was this woman stuck? The story is not very suspenseful. I was annoyed all the time by stupid Amy and her even more stupid friends. Amy fails to tell her friends properly that she begins to remember. She prefers to run out of the room when they doubt her. And her friends doubt her all the time. She is supposed to be their best friend for years but suddenly they treat her like an imbecile. The story itself is plainly constructed and full of conveniences. Especially when it comes to Jack. A friend of mine wrote little love stories when we were teens and this story sounded exactly like one of her stories.
This was my third book from the author. I rated the first with four stars and the second was a DNF. I thought I give her another try but it seems that Michelle Frances is not going to become one of my favourite authors.

The best book I’ve read for a long time!! I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one sitting! This is the definition of a psychological thriller. Your empathy grows for Amy throughout the story, but you begin to waiver slightly at points. Brilliant twist at the end and suddenly everything becomes very clear.

After waking up in hospital after a serious fall Amy discovers that she has no memory of the last 6 months of her life. She doesn’t even remember dashing doctor boyfriend Jack, who has apparently swept her off her feet, although he is yet to meet her friends and family. On a birthday trip to a family holiday home abroad Jack appears and seems the devoted partner.
The storyline duals also with Harry, a charming barman who is wooing an older lady but seems to be hiding something from his past.
Set in a beautiful location the Amy storyline was good but I found some of it a little too far fetched. The mum and friends of Amy were far too ready to believe dr Jack over her and could he really be as good as he seems? The setting sounds amazing and I would have loved to have heard more about the area described. I guess the outcome fairly early on and I think that most readers of this genre will do also, but it is a good read and kept my interest.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Amy is a high flying career woman who owns her own flat. The one thing missing is a relationship.
Amy has an accident and ends up in hospital where she is suffering from amnesia. She can't remember the last six months.
To celebrate her birthday best friends Jenna, Lisa and her mother Martha head to Amy's aunt Esme's house in Val d'Isere.
Amy's boyfriend Jack turns up but Amy doesn't remember having a boyfriend. Very slowly fragments of her memory return and things are not adding up.
This was a fast paced, nail-biting psychological thriller.
I loved the descriptions of the snowy scenes. How the story came together.
I was disappointed with the ending, it kept me feeling quite flat after all the build up.
Thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Amy is a career woman, single with a couple of reliable, close friends. On nights out with these friends they also bring their partners, so she really feels like the odd one out.
After a nasty fall Amy comes round, in hospital and having lost the last six months of her memory. Neither can she remember the plans she has made for her 30th birthday - a French skiing trip to her aunt’s luxurious chalet, with her mum, her best friends and their partners, and her boyfriend. Speaking of which, Dr Jack Stewart has only been in her life a short while but has swept Amy off her feet. He’s kind, generous and everything Amy has ever wished for.
While on holiday Amy begins to feel there is something wrong. Her suspicions of Jack mount up, but is Amy’s memory playing tricks on her, following her recent memory loss?
This is a well-crafted, clever story, which has you looking for a twist at every turn. A compelling, psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages long into the night.

4.5 stars rounded up. I have read a few of this authors other books and enjoyed them all, this one certainly didn’t disappoint. It was a gripping easy to read psychological thriller which kept me hooked. It had a unique storyline with some good twists. I loved it

What an excellent read!!! I couldn’t put it down!!!! Amy recovers from an accident with amnesia…..to discover a boyfriend she doesn’t remember….he seems perfect…but is he?! Loved !
