This was by no means a bad book. I just thought it was going to be a cute romance set in a seaside town and it was more of a chick lit vibe. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just not my personal taste.

"Second Chances at Mermaids Point" by Sarah Bennett is a heartwarming tale of love, healing, and rediscovery set in the picturesque seaside village of Mermaids Point. Nerissa Morgan, at forty-three, finds herself stuck in a life that feels stagnant after the shattering of her dreams of young love. Meanwhile, Tom Nelson, a widowed doctor with distant teenage children, seeks a fresh start in Mermaids Point, hoping to reconnect with his family and heal from the loss of his beloved wife.

Bennett crafts a charming narrative that explores themes of second chances, family dynamics, and the unexpected turns life can take. The setting of Mermaids Point adds a delightful backdrop to the story, creating an idyllic environment that plays a significant role in the characters' journey of self-discovery and healing.

The characters are well-developed, and their personal struggles make them relatable and endearing. Nerissa's reluctance to embrace change and Tom's desire to reconnect with his children create a realistic portrayal of the challenges individuals face in their personal lives. The dynamics between the characters, especially the undeniable attraction between Nerissa and Tom, add a layer of romantic tension that keeps the reader engaged.

Bennett's writing style is engaging, with vivid descriptions that bring Mermaids Point to life. The exploration of grief, healing, and the possibility of new beginnings is handled with sensitivity and authenticity. The pacing of the narrative is well-balanced, allowing the story to unfold at a natural and satisfying pace.

While the novel follows some familiar tropes of the romance genre, Bennett injects freshness into the narrative through well-drawn characters and a charming setting. The theme of second chances resonates throughout the story, and the characters' journeys toward self-discovery and love are heartwarming.

"Second Chances at Mermaids Point" is a delightful read for fans of contemporary romance, offering a perfect escape into a world of love, healing, and the beauty of new beginnings. Sarah Bennett's storytelling prowess shines through, earning the book a solid four stars for its engaging plot, well-developed characters, and the warm and uplifting atmosphere that permeates the pages.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my copy of Second Chances at Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett in exchange for an honest review. It published September 23, 2021.
So I have read a book that comes after this book in this series, but I really enjoyed that book, and wanted to catch up. I liked getting to know the characters a little better, and I appreciate that this series tackles really issues, like life after loss.

You can never go wrong with Sarah Bennett, her books always ALWAYS put me in a good mood, and this is certainly no different!

This is the second book in the Mermaids Point series, personally speaking, I think should read the first book before this (I didn't, and I felt that I needed to, I felt as though I had missed something but it didn't dampen my enjoyment of the overall book) but despite my own thoughts, I think you can get away with reading them as stand-alones .

I do love a second chance romance, and as the title states, this is a second chance at happiness. This story is all about love, loss, family, romance and moving forward in life, it's gorgeous and enchanting, I adored the strolls along the beach (Yes I was envisioning myself gatecrashing the character's private moments ;-) )

I loved the flow of the story, the pacing is perfect which makes it such an easy read, and the characters charm and entertain and make you fall in love, this book will warm the cockles of your heart!

Overall, a perfect summer second chance!

This book is like a warm hug. It was a great palette cleanser between heavy reads and I loved sinking into the cuddly story. We follow a Nerissa, who has had a rough go of it, and truly needs a win. Because it's a cozy romance, she gets it and renews her faith in all of the things.

Although this is the second book in the series, I hadn't read the first and it didn't feel like I was missing anything. A great beach read or cozy read by the fire, if you are looking for a warm heart, look no further.

In this second Mermaids Point story, we meet Nerissa Morgan, the live-in housekeeper/assistant at the local GP practice. She was in love once, but he was killed in the military and she has stayed in Mermaids Point ever since. She has made a life for herself and is very well though of by everyone. Tom, a widower and his two children are visiting, or are they. It turns out that Doc is retiring and Tom is there to see if he wants to buy the practice. Nerissa is worred when she finds out as she isn't sure if she will have a home or a job. Will this give Tom and his children the change they need to reconnect and come back to life?

I enjoyed my second visit to Mermaids Point and meeting up with the characters I met in the first book. You do not need to read Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point to enjoy this story, but there are recurring characters. I connected with Dr. Tom Nelson and his two children Emily and Max, I lost my father at a young age and know how difficult it is for children to grieve as well and try and act like they are fine with their friends. Emily posts some questionable photos online and Max gets into a fight protecting her honor. Tom decided that they needed to move somewhere they could reconnect as well as slow down. Max is looking for a female to bond with, and Nerissa seems to fit the bill, but Emily is worried she will try and replace her mother. Very realistic and relatable behaviour. Can Tom and Nerissa live in the same house, and work together while denying the growing attraction between each other? This story is about two lonely people, who don’t want anyone else in their lives as they have already loved and lost that person. When they meet, there's an instant attraction, but they both try to ignore it for both their own sakes and the sake of the grieving children. There is some angst along the way and things don't go smoothly, but this is a romance and they will eventually get their HEA. This is a sweet romance that also deals with grief, forgiveness and reconnecting with family.

The cover and title of this book totally drew me in. This is the second in the series, but I didn’t read the first and was able to follow along and get to know the characters. A cozy and sweet novel. Nerissa is such a great character, as are many others found in this quaint community. Definitely recommend!

A light escapist romance read.
I have really been enjoying the Mermaid’s Point series and this is the second book in it. Though it is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone.
A very delightful book, warm and engaging. You'll want to grab your tea and get lost in this while the afternoon flies by.
Well rounded characters along with idyllic settings will make you feel like home.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This is book number two in the Mermaids Point series but can easily be read as a stand-alone.
It was a lovely book to read, a nice romance, taking place in a beautiful village, with a cast of wonderful characters and I loved it!!
The authors style of writing and use of words describing the people and places, had me feeling as though I was part of the whole story.
This was a beautiful, heartwarming, emotional read and I loved every part of it!

Great to be back with the residents of Mermaid’s Point, especially when this time we follow the happenings in the life of Nerissa, the 40-something Aunt of the main character of the first book. It makes a pleasant change to read of second-time-around relationships for those in their 40s, rather than the 20-something that seems to frequently feature in this genre.
Although I don’t feel this series has quite the same emotional pull as Butterfly Cove & Lavender Bay series (both series I ended one book desperate to read the next) it is still a very enjoyable series, full of believable, fully-formed, and on the whole pretty likeable characters, set in a wonderful sounding costal village,
Both main characters in this book. Nerrissa and Tom, have faced bereavement and are living with the grief of losing the person they thought they’d be growing old with. The raw grief and long-standing loss experienced by both of these characters is handled sensitively and although it is a feature of their back- and present- stories it does not pull down any if the positivity of the story of Tom and Nerissa’s budding relationship.
A great story for any time of year, full of hope, family and romance.

I really, really liked this book. The aesthetic, cozy feeling it gave me is something that I still carry with me, even months after I finished it.

When I was reading it, I felt relaxed and happy.

This is the kind of book you want to read on a rainy afternoon, with a cup of tea or coffee and candles lit.

I want to thank so much to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is book #2 in the Mermaids Point series, and whilst it’s part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone. We are back in the pretty seaside village of Mermaids Point, and this book focusses on Nerissa Morgan. We have already met Nerissa in the previous book, and she is the aunt of café owner, Laurie. Nerissa is also the housekeeper and receptionist of the village’s GP, but finds herself in a worrying situation when Doctor Malcolm announces he wants to retire and move. Cue Dr Tom Nelson who is a GP in a busy London practice! Following his wife’s death, he’s finding his work/home life difficult, particularly in looking after his two children. Could taking over the surgery in Mermaids Point be just what he needs to refocus his and his children’s’ lives. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nerissa has lived in Mermaids Point all of her life but her life suddenly seems up in the air as the doctor who she works for as a live in housekeeper is retiring so she could lose her livelihood and home in one fell swoop. Tom is a recently widowed GP with two young children and decides that the best thing for his family is to make a new start somewhere completely different and Mermaids Point sounds perfect.

A lovely warm book about second chances in life, full of wonderful characters and leaving you with a real feel good vibe. Perfect beach read
