I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read the first chapter of this book, I cannot wait to read the whole book as I was gripped from the start.
Really enjoyed this. Good plot, interesting characters, fast paced and lots of drama. Hooked from beginning to end.
Every day, doctors hold lives in their hands… but sometimes more than others. Anna Jones, a brilliant cardiac surgeon, finds herself in one very extreme situation when made to choose between losing her son, or killing a VIP on her operating table. Do No Harm is a compelling thriller, and while thrillers in the medical setting can be hit or miss, I’d say this one was a hit!
The plot progression is steady and sound, and the three shifting viewpoints - of Anna, her scrub nurse, and a detective - are very well done. They are well-rounded, with the requisite twisted-ness required for a good thriller. This is actually one of very few male writers whose female protagonists have not irritated me.
One thing that maybe “bugged” me a bit was that there seemed to be a lot of tension and presumed buildup to a twist - which I went nuts trying to predict - but in the end, there was no real twist. Overall though, I’ll definitely pick up more of Jack Jordan’s work in future.
What would it take to get a surgeon to break their Hippocratic oath?
Anna has the misfortune of being put in this exact position when she returns home one evening to find men installing cameras in her house and announcing that they’ve kidnapped her son. All she has to do to make it end is kill the next person to land on her operating table and make it look like an accident…
This was absolutely a 5 star read told from 3 different perspectives - none of which you’re rooting for. Each twist kept me guessing, right up to the very end. It left me with an unsettling feeling, which I think is the intention… I recommend!
A Massive Thank You to the Author, the Publisher and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this book prior to its release date.
Do No Harm is narrated story by 3 female characters.
Firstly: Dr Anna Jones, is a highly respected cardiothoracic surgeon at a hospital in Redwood, currently divorcing Adam while trying to be a brilliant mother to 7 yr old Zak and perform one of the biggest operations of her career, bypassing three blocked coronary arteries for Redwood MP Ahmed Shabir who is tipped to be the future leader of the Labour Party. When Zack is taken hostage and she is provided the ultimatum if you want your son back - kill your patient...
Secondly: Margot Barnes, a scrub nurse and colleague to Anna, struggling to make ends meet and suffering with a violent and dysfunctional family she is the only witness to Dr Jones’ actions.
Thirdly: Detective Inspector Rachel Conaty with a past personal tragedy she is struggling at work and the discovery of a body linked to Anna she begins to spiral.
Do No Harm is a fast-paced, heart-racing thriller with some really grat characters and posing multiple moral dilemmas this book had be racing to the end! .
There was some kind of error with this book, in that I only received a couple of pages, rather than the whole ebook. However, it was enough to get me completely hooked so I obtained a copy to read elsewhere.
This was a brilliant thriller with such an original plot. It was an absolutely gripping, edge of your seat ride of a book that I could not put down. Very clever and well written; I enjoyed the three women's different voices and how they interlinked. However I felt the second half lacked the tension and pace of the first half, and it did become very far-fetched in places.
I will be seeking out Jack's other books as he is clearly an author to watch out for.
This was a gripping read that had me gripped from beginning to end! There were so many twists and turns that really kept me guessing. It really slowly revealed things to keep the tension building throughout. It really made me think about how I would have acted if I was in the main characters position. It was a truly nail biting and gripping read!
Difficult to leave a review from just a chapter. Would have much preferred the entire book to be able to leave a reliable and honest review.
A scary dilemma. Would you kill to save your son? Particularly if your occupation is to save lives at all costs. This is the problem Anna faces when her son is kidnapped and she is told to let a patient die during an operation.
I found the storyline compelling as were the characters. An engaging read
I managed to get a digital copy this book from the library as the one from Netgalley only gave the first chapter.
If you're in the mood for a gripping and heart-racing thriller, then look no further than "Do No Harm" by Jack Jordan. This book follows cardiac surgeon Dr Anna Jones, whose life and family are under threat if she doesn't kill her patient on the hospital bed. The premise alone is enough to make your heart race, and the execution of the story is even more intense. The pace is fast and unrelenting, making it impossible to tear your eyes away from the book.
While I felt there was some racial stereotyping involved that was borderline damaging, this was an otherwise excellent book. "Do No Harm" is a real page-turner that will keep you guessing until the very end. It's the kind of book that could easily become a hit movie, with its thrilling plot and well-developed characters.
Overall, "Do No Harm" is a thriller that'll make you doubt your next trip to the doctor. It's an intense and fast-paced read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you're a fan of the genre, then this book is definitely worth checking out. Just make sure to hold on tight, because this one is a wild ride.
Interesting premise but that dragged a bit in the middle. The ending picked up and was quite fast-paced. Several parts of the story required suspension of disbelief. An okay read for me.
I only seemed to get a few pages of this book but was so hooked by what I received I had to buy it. What an amazing read, fast paced and I loved. I really hope I get to read more by jack.
It seemed like the book had promise, but considering there were only a few pages, it’s hard to make a judgement.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Can’t really review a book when I was only given the first chapter. Don’t really get the point of the exercise.
Yes I enjoyed it and yes it gripped me and makes me want to read the rest of the book but I was greatly disappointed because I hadn’t realised that’s all I was getting.
It's difficult to give a review on just the first chapter of a book. The story seemed to be gripping right from the start and I am intrigued to read more.
Unfortunately only first few pages of book given so unable to leave review. Shame as sounds like a great book
I read a sample of this book, and it was so good, I had to download it in full!
Anna's son has been taken and she has one choice: kill a patient on the operating table, or risk losing her son forever. She must get away with murder... If she doesn't, she will die along with her son.
Oh wow, this is utterly brilliant; so intense! Everyone has been raving about this book on Twitter, and I now understand the hype! I cannot recommend this enough!
Jack Jordan has such a heartstopping way of writing that I sometimes found I was holding my breath. The characters are brilliant, and you really get inside their heads. Cardiothoracic surgeon Anna is missing her child and has been put into a dangerous situation, but she is so cold it is hard to feel sorry for her. Scrub nurse Margot is a little thief, but I felt sorry for her and the situation she had gotten herself into. DI Rachel Conaty knows there is more than meets the eye to a local murder and obsesses over Anna knowing that she must be linked to it somewhere.
This is a fast-paced cat-and-mouse thriller and deserves to be a bestseller. The climax of the book and ending chapters are thrilling and full of suspense.
This is the first book I've read by Jack Jordan but it will not be the last!
When I started reading this book I did not realise that this version was only the first chapter of the book. Promising start but would love to read more.
The sample provides enough detail and intrigue to lure the reader in. Even without any medical knowledge, you could understand the dialogue as there was enough detail without it being overwhelming. I am so curious as to how the rest of the story goes.
