Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of the first chapter of this book.
The chapter covers Anna completing a heart operation on Peter, and attempting to restart his heart. The explanations are clear and there are signs that thrills and suspense will follow throughout the book although this chapter does not outline the story. One chapter does not provide a sufficient evidence base for an informed judgement so I have given a 2 star rating.
I'm not sure how I feel about this book. None of the characters were likeable, which usually makes me automatically hate it, and the story itself was getting more and more far-fetched; another red flag. However, I did find myself enjoying reading it and finding out how it ends.
I could not read this, despite being downloaded, I haven't had time to read it before it was archived, so it has disappeared. I am sorry as I was looking forward to it.
I cannot give a review of this book as I only received approximately 5% of the text. This being so I am unable to give an opinion on the book the first chapter gave an indication of a good storyline but that is all I can add at this juncture.
I only got to see a small sample of this , not the whole thing, but I'll definitely be downloading the full MS once it's released. The first chapter pulls the reader in brilliantly. Hard to give a full review on a sample, but I liked what I read.
This book drew me in from the first page, and I couldn't rest until I reached the last. I really enjoyed the moral dilemma that existed alongside the plot, with its twists and turns.
It is bold, graphic and brutally realistic. Action packed and lots of tension throughout.
There are certain roles that have always been considered as trustworthy. We would happily put our lives in their hands, the fire service, police, judges, pilots and the ones we have to trust the most of all doctors. However there is one fatal flaw in that naive trust, they are human beings. Flawed, complicated, capable of mistakes and in this case possibly murder.
Narrated by three fantastic female characters, we have the cold as ice heart surgeon Dr Anna Jones who is a single mother to Zach and about to operate on a top secret patient. Nurse Margot who works alongside her and is stealing from her colleagues in an attempt to clear her debts and finally Detective Inspector Rachel Conaty whose past personal trauma is affecting her professional conduct. None are particularly likeable and yet you still find yourself empathising with them over their predicaments.
This book has what seems a very black or white moral dilemma at it’s core. A doctors oath of do no harm or a mother’s instinct to save her son. Now what really struck me was the grey area in between of the author making the patient a politician and possible future prime minister. With the current feelings towards politicians would this make it an easier choice for the reader?
Now I’ve met a few doctors over my many years and I would rather have a cold one that was good at their job than a warm and fuzzy one who had patients leaving their operating table for a trip to the morgue. This may be a work of fiction but it certainly brings home how much we blindly put our trust in people.
This is a fast paced, lump in throat while reading thriller, that is easily a one sit read. Just don’t read it while awaiting surgery!
I was given the opportunity to read the first chapter of this book and it definitely has me wanting more!
Feedback already submitted on audiobook.....Very enjoyable, fast paced storyline. Would definitely recommend to others.
Wow! This was one of those books that grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go until the last. Told through different POVs, the storyline was full of tension, thrills and twists. The morale dilemma running throughout was very interesting and one that really makes you think what you'd do in a similar situation. Highly recommend this title.
Many thanks to Simon & Schuster UK and NetGalley for the review copy.
Read the 6 pages of this book provided as a taster. Not really enough to get an impression. It was ok
Thanks to Net Galley
I didn't realise I was only getting the first chapter, so it is hard to give a review. The first chapter did seem good and I did want to read more. I do not know what the rest of the book was like, but I may give it a read some time.
I just couldn't get into this one - whilst the storyline was packed full of action, it just didn't grip me in quite the way I was hoping. That's not to say I wouldn't try another book by this author, I think maybe I'd seen too much hype for it before picking it up.
What a ride! I was team kill the patient from the off. As a mother I would like to think id do anything for my child. Reading Anna's part of the story really makes you think. I went on a whole rollercoaster of emotions reading this book. I enjoyed it being split into 3 different pov. All 3 of our main players are going through some heavy stuff and it was interesting going on the journey with them as they navigated this horror they find themselves dealing with. I was totally hooked from the off. Jack's writing and story telling sucks you in and doesn't let go. I will definitely keep my eye out for more from him. A gripping thriller that I would highly recommend
This book is tense, dark and grippingly compulsive from the opening pages, racing on until the end. It is in turn both graphic and gorily realistic, never giving you a moment to recover.
The story is set in April 2019, moving forwards hours at a time. It is told through the eyes of three main characters: Anna, the mother of the kidnapped boy, an eminent and well-respected cardiac surgeon; Margot, a cardiac/ scrubs nurse and finally; Rachel, the investigating police officer. Each of these characters has a back story filled with issues and happenings, providing the reader with an understanding of their current situations. So much for the reader to discover and moral dilemmas to consider. I found there were a couple of moments that stretched my credulity, but didn’t spoil my enjoyment overall.
The story is skilfully plotted and full of unexpected turn of events, relentless action and tension towards the nail-biting conclusion.
If you are looking for your next page turner, check out Do No Harm. However, be warned as it will make you sweat 😅 and you won’t want to put it down! *cue late notices and lots of coffee ☕️
A skilled surgeon makes the best murderer. Really?!!!! 😱 Well Dr Anna Jones has a choice. Kill the patient on the operating table and make sure she gets away with it, or never see her son again. Yep…a really easy choice there 😳😅
I’m not going to give any spoilers don’t worry. Chapter by chapter, the plot unfolds and things as you can imagine get VERY tense. The book is full of twists, shady characters, and a lot of suspense and drama. Things don’t go to plan and basically it results in a rollercoaster of a story! 🤯
A nail biting thriller, with an intriguing premise and a corker of an ending. Definitely recommend for all you thriller fans 😎
What a start! I can't wait to read this and find out more. It's grabbed me instantly and initial reaction is an easy five star read!
Chapter One starts brilliantly. I'll definitely be purchasing this book soon and recommending it to my local library!
The sample first chapter was definitely a page turner had me gripped from the first line, I was disappointed it was only the one chapter.
A heart surgeon has been told they have her son and if she wants to see him again she must kill her patient.
The book cover and description got me first so will definitely be reading the rest.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC first chapter in exchange for my honest review
This is a real belter! Jack Jordan grabs the reader's attention with a heart-stopping, dynamic opening and he keeps you in a vice-like grip all the way to the thrilling conclusion. Do No Harm is a book that’s impossible to put down once started. It's told from three perspectives, Dr Anna Jones, DI Rachel Conaty and Margot, a nurse, and it's chilling and horrifying. The main characters are fascinating and the reader is also presented with a moral dilemma. The plotting is superb and the pacing moves like along at a fair rate of knots. What's not to like?
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Simon and Schuster UK via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
