Do No Harm by Jack Jordan Narrated by: Lucy Paterson, Sarah Feathers, Jane Collingwood. was an excellent "Read" and I really enjoyed it. However, the audio book version was sorry to say really bad! and I mean Bad/poor!
I listened till the end of the third chapter, beginning of chapter four, and I just could not get into it, Sadly all the narrators did not do this book any justice and just droned on and on!!! and it just sounded Boring!
There was no feeling or empathy from these narrators whilst reading this book. I would of asked for my credit back!!! Hence why I ended up closing the audiobook and ended up reading it, which was so much better. Especially as this, was a book I wanted to read and was lucky to get an audio copy.
I recommend the book but not the audiobook. Sorry
So No stars for the audiobook. and 4 stars for the book.
Thank you to Simon & Schuster UK, NetGalley and the Author for the opportunity to read this book ahead of the publishing date, in exchange for an honest review.
Where the book about?
A heart surgeon must take the life of a patient during surgery or her kidnapped son will be killed.
My thoughts:
A little confused as to why the entire book was first available to me and then only a sampler. Thankfully I had finished the book before this change happened.
This book took me by surprise. I thought it would be filled with science and surgeries but it had such a well balanced approach to inform and engage the reader. I finished the book in one sitting. It has all the makings of a good thriller - unlikeable characters, suspense, tension and finally an open to interpretation end.
Gripping and compelling.
In the midst of her divorce, a surgeon arrives home to find the house teeming with strangers, her neighbour dead and her son missing. The only way to get him back is to kill the high profile patient she is secretly due to perform complex open heart surgery on at the weekend, and not get caught.
The officer in charge of investigating the neighbour's murder immediately senses something is off, but still reeling from the abduction of her son at a similar age,
and with the parents insisting he is safe, is it all in her mind?
May have only one chapter to read but well worth it and look forward to reading what happens next. Thank you for setting the scene.
I didn't realise this was only a sample. However I enjoyed the first chapter and look forward to reading the rest of the book.
It's rather a shame that only the first, very short, chapter was released for preview as there was very little to indicate where this book might go. I enjoyed the writing style - quite "matter-of-fact" and with a degree of technical insight which suggested good research. Unfortunately, to conclude much more about the book, though, would be guesswork.
This is one of the most anticipated thrillers out there at the moment and after reading it I can certainly see why. Jack Jordan has written an absolutely brilliantly plotted, tense, rollercoaster ride of a thriller. You have no idea what is going to happen next, the tension starts off fairly mild and gradually builds until 💥💥💥💥💥 you are hooked from the opening lines of the book right through until that ending that sort of leaves you wondering!
Dr Anna Jones is a renowned heart surgeon very well respected in her field, she can be a little abrupt at times, but she is currently going through a divorce as well as trying to raise her 8 year old son and juggle her work.
The story begins on the 4th August and ends on the 11th August but those 7 days re the most stressful days that I imagine the dr has had to go through. Told from three points of view. Anna, Margot a theatre nurse who works with Anna, who is struggling financially and has resorted to stealing from her colleagues as well as patients if the opportunity arises, she is that desperate she is about to be thrown out of her flat if she doesn’t pay the rent as well as owing money to loan sharks. Thirdly we have Inspector Rachel Conaty who is called out to a body which has been found dumped in a well, a single gunshot to the head, teeth pulled and fingertips removed. Who is this elderly lady? Who would want to kill her?
On the 4th August Anna returns home from work to find removal lorries outside her house, there are also men inside, she dashes in asking what they are doing and asking where her son is. It’s not long before she is told to sit down with three of the men, they tell her she has to do something for them in order to get her son back. She has a VIP patient she is due to operate on on the 6th August, the security is tight, but she has to kill the patient and get away with it, if she doesn’t she will never see her son again. What would you choose? Kill the patient? Or kill your child?
Margot is watching closely the day the surgery is due, she notices Anna is a little shaky and very abrupt in the theatre. But then Margot also has her own worries, all of them money related. But she is watching the surgery closely.
Inspector Conaty is convinced that Anna knows more about the death of the old lady than she is letting on after all she was last seen collecting Zachary from school and then she disappears. But Conaty also has things on her mind which can cloud her judgement.
Will the patient survive? Will Anna get her son back? There is so much tension in this book you could sharpen a knife on it, and the further you read the more the tension builds, as I read on my heart was pounding in my ears, I was holding my breath, sitting in the edge of my seat, I kept thinking I need to just red one more chapter, but then another chapter. This is one of those books you ideally need to free up a day, grab a deckchair and get yourself a nice long drink and sit in the garden and read. You will be gripped by every chapter. Who can be trusted? Who can’t? Who will survive? Who won’t? There are some shocking moments in this story, but each one is more gripping than the last and those final chapters will hold you completely gripped even when you think you can relax, can you?
Thank you to Jack Jordan for a brilliant read. Thank you #netgalley and #simon&Schuster for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest fair and unbiased review.
I was gifted the first chapter of Jack Jordan’s new thriller.
I really do want to read the rest, it has me hooked and the tension stayed straight away.
This sample has introduced me to a new author, I will definitely seek out his other titles.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Great cover and I keep hearing about this book and how fantastic it is. I have pre-ordered it on Amazon.
Happy publication day!! This review is based on the first chapter of this book.
The first chapter of this novel really pulled me in, the tension was high as we dive in at the end of a heart surgery. I flew through the first few pages to see what happened and although it doesn't give anything else away the writing was amazing.
I have a feeling that as we get into the full storyline of this book my rating will increase to a 5 for sure. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy and ignore all other books.
Although this was a teaser of the book, I was absolutely hooked from the first few lines.
I'll definitely be purchasing the full novel for my kindle after this.
I've heard nothing but great things and I'm so thankful to have got a chance to read the opening chapter as I know its definitely a book I will enjoy.
This is a tough one.
I really enjoyed reading this first chapter that was shared with me and it was good, but I cannot comment on the rest of the book. Would like to read the rest so I can give a more informed review.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for sharing
This was the first chapter ,and not the full book which I did not realise.
Seems like a good start !
Look forwarding to reading the whole book.
Amazing first chapter to a very intriguing book, for someone who is a fan of of hospital programs I could really picture the situation in my head. I’m Very excited to read the rest of the book when it is released in a few days time. I’m interested to see what the rest of the story will involve and also to see the writing progress with more medical scenes and see our main character deal with the stress and heartbreak of having their child kidnapped and then having to put their job at risk in order to get her back. Thank you net galley for giving me this chapter in exchange for an honest review.
Was only one chapter that downloaded, it was a great first chapter making you want to read the whole book but disappointed it was just a chapter
I received the first chapter of this book as a ‘taster’ before the publication. Let me tell you - I want to read this book.
The description of the surgery was tense and I was gripped from the first page.
Now, I have to buy this book to find out what happened next!
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read the chapter.
I was given the opportunity to read the first chapter of this book. What a privilege. It had me gripped from the off and I can't wait to read more. The descriptions are so good I felt like I was actually in the operating theater with the team. Bring on the rest of the story.
The first chapter draws you in , excellent start to this book. Definitely makes me want to read more
My mistake as I didn't realise this was a sample of chapter one. I thought aaah no! I was getting into that. Reads very good and I want to read the rest! Once I have picked myself up off the floor after fainting that is. Why I don't work in a hospital I guess.
Honestly, I didn't notice I was requesting just the 1st chapter of this book. I haven't read or reviewed any samples before either.
Nevertheless the feeling I got from the opening chapter was pretty good!
A female surgeon is performing open heart surgery on a patiënt. You could feel her anxiety when things start to go wrong. The tension, the expectant eyes of her colleagues....
Would have loved to read on and find out where the story is going to so will definately add the titel to by TBR!
