Jack Jordan has written an explosive story. At points I felt like I was sweating along with Dr Jones. Impossible choices along with fatal consequences. Edge of seat reading. Thank you #Netgalley for my ARC copy.
In this copy of the book, we are only given six pages, a 'taste' test of what the full book will contain.
Already there is a bit of tension to be felt and curiosity has been spiked in the mind of the reader (in this instance, me). In this small excerpt I am drawn in and I'm certainly interested to know more about this book and the story it contains.
Something tells me there's going to be an awful lot of tension which I love in thrillers!
I didn't realise this was only a first chapter (despite on returning to the request page seeing it clearly written there!).
Hard to review on one chapter- at first read the characters seem interesting and the premise sounds good but I will have to reserve judgement until I read the whole thing!
I didn't realize this was the first chapter only
Re-download thinking I was missing the book
Sad its only the first chapter
It was good..wets your appetite
But hard to give a good review on only one chapter to be honest
Only a few pages of this book received so I certainly can't base a review on a whole book. What I have read so far is good. . The being a medical thriller and me being medical it had better be factually accurate! :D Hopefully I will get a chance to read the whole book. As I have to give a rating I will opt for 3 stars as 1 or 5 would be unfair and not really valid
I read chapter one of Jack Jordan’s Do No Harm on NetGalley. Just one chapter and I know that I have to read the whole book very soon, I also know that I have to give this chapter and the book five stars.
Let me explain why. From a young age, medical thrillers fascinated me. I devoured every Robin Cook and Michael Palmer book I could find, and then reread my favourites as I grew up. I simply love this genre of books. It is my favourite.
I also know instinctively if I like a book in a few seconds. This book, this chapter gripped me from page one. I’m hooked.
I desperately want to find out what happens next to the surgeon after the surgery goes wrong.
This book promises to be exciting from page one, chapter one, and I cannot wait to read more.
There was a lot that I enjoyed about this book. I found the characters to be interesting, if not remotely likeable, It took a lot of turns that took me by surprise, and the ending was a shock as well. It was tense and gripping.
An enjoyable sample. Curious to read the rest of the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for the opportunity to read this.
This is a great first chapter. The book appears very well researched as the medical procedure is very detailed and realistic. I loved the premise and blurb. The first chapter is well written and easy to read. I will look out for the rest of the book.
Will look forward to reading the remaining chapters. The first certainly whetted my appetite to read more.
What a tease this is just a one chapter sampler
What a great first chapter it is though
Excited to read the book in full
Hard to give an informative review when all I got to read was one chapter. I enjoyed what I read and would be keen to read more of both this author and the novel itself. In fairness I will wait till I have read a complete novel before I think about recommendations. I accept it was my own fault for requesting a sample chapter rather than a full length novel.
I'm always on the market for a great thriller and the tone and style of this first chapter definitely left me wanting to read more. It was tricky to glean a lot about the plot from it but, if anything, that adds to the intrigue as now I want to read on and find out what happens!
This is just a chapter sampler and boy what a start!
I will definitively be purchasing the book once published! :)
Great start but does not give much indication of the story to follow. Thanks for the opportunity to read.
Loved the opening chapter to this book and will be purchasing the full book asap! The premise of this book is what attracted me to it, such a simple yet original concept.
Unputdownable! A chilling and tense thriller!
There has been a lot of hype about this book and often this worries me as I wonder if it will then live up to my expectations when I read it. I am very pleased to say this one did! This is a fast-paced, action-packed, nail-biting read that had me on the edge of my seat throughout!
Anna is juggling being a single mum whilst holding down a career, this is hard for most, but Anna is a heart surgeon, so it isn’t like she works an average 9-5 kind of job. Thank goodness she has a lovely neighbour, Paula, who takes care of her son Zack for her when she’s working. After a stressful shift at the hospital, she heads home, what greets her when she gets there is not at all what she was expecting! Who are these men in her house and where are Zack and Paula?
Anna is due to operate on a very high-profile person – MP Ahmed Shabir. It has all been kept top secret, but there must have been a leak, as these men in Anna’s home have come to give her an ultimatum. She is to kill Ahmed Shabir on the operating table, or she will never see her son alive again!
What a dilemma Anna finds herself in, as a surgeon she has taken the Hippocratic Oath to abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm, but she can’t let her son die!
We follow her on her quest to save her son and we soon realise that murdering an innocent man is the easy bit, it’s getting away with it and the challenges she faces after that are the real hard tasks.
This is an incredibly well-written book that played out in my mind like a movie. With unexpected twists and turns, I thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster ride this story took me on. I loved both Anna and Margot who were very well-developed characters with personality traits reflective of their backstories, especially Margot. There was never a dull moment in this book and the jam-packed storyline held my attention from start to finish.
So, what would you do in Anna’s situation? Murder someone or never see your child again? As a mother myself the answer is a no brainer. Thank heaves this is just fiction!
So, if you’re looking for a book that will raise your heart rate, have you clenching your jaw and make you hold your breath for long periods of time then this is the book for you! Just don’t do yourself any harm!
Thank you to Jack Jordan, Simon & Schuster UK and NetGalley for my copy of Do No Harm which is out from the 26th May!
Looking forward to reading the full novel - the chapter sampler is intriguing and leaves readers dying for more.
great sampler - look forward to reading the full book once it gets published
thanks to NG for the sampler
This was absolutely brilliant! I had a lot of sympathy for Anna and Rachel, whilst their situations were different I definitely related to them from a mum's POV. I can't begin to imagine what it must of felt like for Anna when her son was taken but I applaud her determination and quick thinking as she tried to save him.
Margot was a very interesting character and I really enjoyed getting to know her and her background some more, Such a shame that things didn't work out as she had hoped but given what her and Anna had gone through together one of them was going to betray the other.
I found it very interesting to see how the police and their investigation unravelled whilst everything was going on with Anna and Margot. It was a serious cat and mouse game where you weren't entirely who you wanted to win.
Gripping, intense and fantastically addictive!
