The opening sampler chapter of Do No Harm drops the reader straight into the action of a heart transplant operation, as if you’re looking over the shoulder of the surgeon:
Watching the monitors.
Feeling the tension.
Seeing the drama first hand.
A promising opener to a promising sounding thriller. I look forward to reading more…..

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this enticing opening chapter.

Anna is a highly skilled hear surgeon but when her son’s life hangs in the balance what will she do? Her hypocratic oath was to ‘do no harm’ but what will she decide is more important.
How would any of us react if our loved ones were in danger?

Wow, what a roller coaster of a read! A real heart thumper. I was hooked for the first page. A psychological thriller with a terrible dilemma at it's core.
Clear a few hours before starting this as you will not want to put it down!

I didn't know what to expect when I chose this title on netgalley. I thought the description was decent and though, usually not my normal read, I thought I would give it a shot. Well! Am I glad that my request to read Do No Harm was accepted!

I struggle sometimes with reading from first person perspective, but I didn't want to put it down and found myself staying up well past my normal as well as sneaking little reads while I was in work.

Do No Harm is an incredibly gripping book about a woman who has to make a choice. Do something unthinkable, that goes against everything she believes in, or the unthinkable may just happen to her son.

This is a choice that no parent should ever have to make, and seeing her struggle with her decisions, made Anna seem relatable and real.

While Anna is dealing with these life changing situations we also follow Margot who works at the hospital alongside Anna, but straight away we know not to like her. A woman who is out for number 1, doesn't even blink at stealing from her friends and colleagues as well as patients.

Margot is the only person to witness what Anna does to save her son and decides that the best course of action is to blackmail Anna for a lot of money. Anna is not a force to be reckoned with though and Margot finds herself in deep over her head. Anna takes her down the same path she herself is on.

While all of this is going on we meet Rachel. Rachel is an investigation officer who is investigating the murder of the woman next door to Anna. A woman who by all accounts was last seen by Zach, Anna's son. Rachel senses the lies and cracks in the story Anna shares to the police, but when she begins to wonder the whereabouts of Zach, she goes down a path that exposes her own past to us.

Anna is a force to be reckoned with. She is sly and clever and manipulative all at once and I love it.

The ending was just what I was hoping for and I can't wait for this to be on general sale so that I can recommend it to my book club.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this. This is the best thing I have read in well over a year.

A fast paced thriller about a surgeon forced to murder a high-profile patient on her operating table to save her son, who has been kidnapped by an organised crime gang. Written from the surgeon’s viewpoint and an operating department colleague, it is an exciting and compelling read. With intense and highly motivated characters, and the sense of the moral dilemma, it would be a great book club read.

With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy to review.

Do No Harm by Jack Jordan is a taut, edge-of-your-seat thriller and a must read for 2022.

Anna is a renowned heart surgeon, well-respected if not well liked. She is competent and confident in her skills until the day she is asked to kill a patient on the operating table or risk losing her son forever. Can she go through with it?

"I am on my own. Each surgery is a collaborative effort up to this point: Dr Burke manages the medications, breathing tube, and monitoring lines; Karin controls the heart-lung machine; the surgical care practitioner standing at the foot of the bad harvest the leg veins for transplantation; each specialist with their own aide. Beside me stands my own, Margot, assisting with every tool and swab. But when it comes to the heart, the responsibility is all mine."

Anna has a difficult job, not just in terms of what she must perform in surgery but also in knowing how to deal with giving relatives news of a death.

"Over time I learned not to look at a patient's next of kin with too much sympathy or she might find me patronising, nor too much sadness, in case she mistakes it for guilt. If I had smiled too widely on my approach, I might have given false hope. Being a cardiothoracic surgeon isn't just about fixing hearts, it is also knowing how to break them. "

In two days time she is due to perform the biggest operations of her career on the man rumoured to be the next leader of the Labour Party. Zack, her son is due to go on holiday with her brother but she is unable to go due to the operation. Zack is upset with her because he feels she cares more for his patients more than she cares about him. Added to this she is going through a seperation with Zack's father and is barely able to be civil with him. More stress is the last thing she needs.

Then she arrives home to find men in her house, men who tell her they have her son and will kill him unless she cooperates with their plans.

"What I'm about to tell you is very important. I won't repeat myself, so make sure you listen to what I'm about to say.'

I open my mouth to protest.

'Your neighbour is dead.'

He says it with such ease that I almost don't register the gravity of his statement. But when it sinks in, the news hits me like a blow to my temple. A high-pitched whistle screams into my brain.

'And we have your son."

Do No Harm was a superb book and it barely left my side whilst I was reading it.

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review . I discovered Jack’s books last year and it’s been a treat to see a hype about this release even pre publication.

Tense, haunting and a situation you really couldn’t imagine yourself in. As a parent this is terrifying and also mind-blowing.

Scary , thought provoking and absolutely questions your morals.

Fast paced and plotted this book takes no prisoners from page 1.

You go on a real journey as the race to get her son back is on with horrifying consequences . Packed with tension and leaving you holding your breath .

This is a chilling concept and executed perfectly. Look out for one of 2022s best thrillers .

This is the first book I have read by the author and I was captivated by the premise of the book-Anna is a surgeon , her son has been kidnapped and in order to save him she must ensure her patient doesn't make it through the operation alive. Caught between her oath to "do no harm" Anna has to choose between her job and her son. This book was an easy but enjoyable read which kept me in suspense throughout. A must read.

I am a huge fan of Jack Jordan so I was really exciting to start reading this one. Immediately, from the first page it grabbed my attention and it didn’t let off until the last page. Told in the perspectives of three women, it is easy to follow, has a fantastic plot and is unpredictable in parts too which heightens the tension as you read. This book would make a fantastic movie!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love a buddy read on thrillers. Huge thanks to Kate for being my bookworm buddy for this one.
Firstly, the cover is IMMENSE. Clean, dramatic, eye catching and pretty much gives you a warning to watch your heart rate while reading it!
This book first came on my radar after seeing author Louise Beech post on Twitter about a 'edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting, buttock-clenching thriller.'
Was she right!
This was one of the most stressful thriller I've ever read!
Wow, did my heart have to work hard! It CONSUMED me. Even when not reading it, I was thinking about it- the characters, the theories, predictions and everything in between.
Anna was a great character, and really personified the charisma and superiority of heart surgeons! Her relationship with her son was so strong, and dictated her decisions throughout.
The epitome of a heart-stopping thriller. This book will be HUGE. It's my new go-to recommendation for 2022 thrillers.

This was my first book by Jack Jordan and I wasn't disappointed.

"Do No Harm" is a thriller with a fascinating concept and great execution. Jack Jordan has written three amazing characters that we won't forget about anytime soon.

I loved the pace, the edge of the seat action and the badass-ery of the characters. I was engrossed throughout the book and was waiting to find out what happens.

While there are parts that require some suspension of belief, the book mostly had me side with the main character, Anna.

I will definitely be reading more of this author. Thanks to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster UK for the e-arc.

3.5/5

It’s been a hell of a day for Dr. Anna Jones - she is trying to cope with her recent divorce , the guilt of being a working single Mum and despite her best efforts, the death of a patient on her operating table. Things are about to go from bad to worse for Anna as she arrives him to find her house full of violent men and her son no where to be seen. These men have just one task for Anna - make sure the man scheduled for surgery dies on the operating table because if she doesn’t her son will be killed instead. As a doctor who has sworn to do no harm how can she intentionally kill a patient? But as a mother, how can she refuse?

I was immediately intrigued by the moral dilemma this book poses and what Anna would do in a seemingly impossible situation. It’s a book that pulls you in right from the beginning and doesn’t let go of you even after you finish it, as you wonder what on earth you would do in Anna’s shoes. The chapters are short and snappy and the characters are varied and interesting. That coupled with the fast pace tension meant I grabbed every possible opportunity to read a few more pages. It’s kind of ironic that a book about heart surgery caused my own heartbeat to race so often and I felt like I held my breath for the last 100 pages.

It’s the first book I have read by Jack Jordan but it certainly will not be the last. This book is perfect for any thriller fan. It’s a book I will be recommending to everyone I know in the hope they read it and we can discuss it.

Thank you so much to Jack Jordan, Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for an opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
