I hadn't read a book set in the US for a while so this was a pleasant surprise. A really dark and twisty tale. How well do three recently single friends really know each other. A missing friend which leads to hidden secrets being exposed. An atmospheric, creepy setting.
One of the best thrillers I have read in recent years. I loved everything about it ! What stood out was the brilliant writing which was descriptive and so easy to read. Amazing story line with red herrings, twist and turns and shocks that kept me turning the pages and an ending I was not able to guess which is always a revelation after being an avid thriller reader for years and years.
Safe to say I loved it , I loved the setting, the characters interaction and development and felt the plot was exceptionally unravelled in a way that kept me intrigued, interested and involved the entire way from the first page to the last. Brilliant
When her husband Harry walks out after just six months, a girls' weekend away with two friends seems like just what Sam needs.
But they aren't even halfway to their destination when things start to go wrong: car trouble that just happens to leave them stranded in the town where Harry lives.
And that's only the beginning.
Because there are three things Sam doesn't yet know:
One of her friends is lying about why they're there.
One is lying about who she is.
And one of them will never make it home . . .
This is a gripping read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own hone\st voluntary review.
I loved this book!
I found it incredibly gripping, fast paced and unputdownable. I read it on one sitting.
There seems to be a resurgence of books with 3 or 4 people going away and 1 not returning- I'm not sure if they have a genre name- so it needs to be a bit different to keep my interest. I'm pleased to say this one was, it was fun to read and guess at the twists and kept me turning the pages late into the night.
Thank you to netgalley and Penguin Books for an advance copy of this book
Wow! This is such a good book. Full of secrets and half truths, told mostly from the perspective of two of the main characters. It hooks you in and keeps you reading. Twists along the way, but all explained in the end, I definitely recommend this book. Thank you #netgalley
This book was so more-ish, I wouldn't put it down, and was totally addicted to staying up to read it. This is a cleverly plotted story, brilliantly written female friendship and even better betrayals.
This started off very slow and I wasn’t sure whether I would like this. I persevered and gradually it started to get more interesting. It didn’t grab me as I hoped it would as I found the characters very shallow but on the whole this wasn’t a bad read. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Everyone needs a weekend away with the girls right?
But when friends all are suffering from breakdowns in their marriages some need it more than most.
Sam,Diana and Margaret decide that this is just what they all need.
But even before they get halfway to there destination things take a turn for the worse.
Having filled up with fuel they lose the keys to the rental car and have to stop overnight in a rental place.,doesn't sound so bad!
They decide to go out for the evening and make the most of their dilemma but after a drunken night out one of the friends doesn't return!
This is such an engaging book about friends, life and hilarious moments.
A very enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed The Perfect Escape. I found it a fast paced, page turner of a story that kept me gripped throughout. It had plenty of twists and turns and an edning I did not see coming.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.
The perfect escape by Leah Konen.
A girls' weekend to die for.
New friends Sam, Margaret and Diana are thrilled to be getting out of the city for a girls’ weekend—they’ve bonded over their messy divorces, and every mile on the odometer feels like another step towards putting their exes in the past. But when car trouble halfway into their trip strands them in the most unlikely of mountain towns, they come face-to-face with the hurts and betrayals they were so desperate to leave behind. When Diana doesn't return home after a night out, Sam and Margaret's search for her reveals just how little they know about their friend. As eerie coincidences and secrets begin to pile up, and an ex-boyfriend arrives in the tiny town, the women realize that their detour may not have been a mistake...and that someone wants to guarantee that they never make it out.
A very good read with good characters. I liked the story. Did find it slow in places. 3*.
Loved this book, a gripping read and one that has you from page one, it didn’t let up, a fast paced and creepy as hell this one was a great book for me, defo a must read!
A good thriller with three friends, who go away for a girly weekend. However, it doesn’t go to plan. They all have their own secrets that they haven’t shared. How well do they actually know each other?
The story is told from different perspectives and it makes the book very interesting and unputdownable!
Lots of twists and turns and a good read.
I have mixed feelings about this book, mostly positive but there were some niggles that stopped me from being fully invested. It was a quick and easy to read book which is great, the plot had a lot of potential and I was kept guessing throughout most of the story but toward the end it all felt a bit of an overreach. Saying that, I did enjoy the final twist and overall thought it was an okay read!
Big thanks to Penguin Michael Joseph UK and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I have read by this author. It was a fast moving mystery novel with plenty of twists and kept me hooked. throughout. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me access to this really enjoyable novel.
This is a brilliant mystery thriller.
Sam, Margaret and Diana decide to go away for the weekend and are looking forward to escaping their everyday lives.
Each woman is dealing with something and with chapters from their perspective, the reader gets a view into their lives.
On the way to their destination they stop for a break and realise they’ve lost the key to the car when they get back in.
With no choice but to stay the night where they are, Diana finds them a place to stay.
They go out for food and drinks but the night does not go to plan.
I won’t spoil what happens but things go from bad to worse for the group and the next day Diana is missing.
I loved this book and really liked how it all came together.
Highly recommend.
Thanks to Penguin Michael Joseph and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
When a weekend ahead for 3 newly bonded friends following messy divorces hits a problem, it turns out that it is not a coincidence. Lies, exes and high emotions all play their part in this story. Many revelations along the way. Unpredictable right till the end.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
ohh a long weekend away with mates and a hottub..who wouldnt....
but as the girls stop off for petrol they lose the key to the car and have to stay overnight at the place they are stranded...
and on a boozy night filled with cocktails and fun one of the trio goes missing....
what follows next is a very complex storyline but full of red herrings and innuendos galore, but its one not to miss
I loved this book!
It was full of suspense and action and I couldn't put it down. Based on a group of girls going away for the weekend, it doesn't turn out how they expect. The characters are relatable and honest and the book shows different POV's for each character which made it easy to keep up with
The characters were great and I couldn't pick the one "who did it" You went from empathizing with a character to suddenly not trusting them and I loved them.
The ending was also brilliant!
Brilliant! Sam and her friends go away for a weekend but it doesn’t turn out as they expected. Families and friends can be supportive or not at times, depending on how they see the situation. The story line also features pregnancy difficulties and the trauma of losing an unborn child. I found it original, gripping, full of suspense with plenty of twists- totally different ending to what you might think.
