The Perfect House is brilliant. There’s a sense of unease that grows as the plot progresses that is magically done and like nothing I’ve read before!
A fantastic thriller with intriguing characters, I read it in one sitting. A must read!

I enjoyed this book and read it quickly over 2 days.

The storyline is well put together and there is a building sense of unease throughout, which adds to the mystery.

I found the characters, especially Ellie, believable and relatable, although I did find Tom’s unwillingness to believe Ellie somewhat annoying after a while.

This is a classic possible unreliable narrator story, especially in light of past events which make you question the main protagonist’s stability. Add to this the setting of the old house and mysterious deaths, this is a well put together book. I also felt the way in which the changing timelines are interlinked worked well.

I did expect something else to happen in the latter part of the book, and was left feeling slightly underwhelmed at the end.

I would however recommend the story and would read another book by this author.

Thanks to publishers HQ and Net Galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I found this to be a good well written book that got me interested in the storyline and the characters. I must say though, for me personally, it fell a bit flat halfway through with not much happening after such a great, gripping beginning although the ending was satisfactory.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for allowing me to read this book.

⏩for synopsis

Another disappointing read for me unfortunately….

So this one starts off with great promise which earned it the two stars. The beginning hooks you easily, the characters are intriguing, and the story appears to be leading you into a great plot. I loved the unusual aspects to the story; the creepy goings on, the history of the house and it’s residents, mystery deaths and of course meeting the other residents of the street.

I enjoyed the changing timeline which allows you to delve into main character Ellie’s past and it all felt like this book was a sure thing.

But then comes the second half of the book…. And really at this point something big or something to move the plot forward really needed to happen and it just didn’t. It carried on with the same old, no real new developments and it really seriously began to drag at this point. I lost all interest and really had had enough. I found myself skipping to the end and I will say the big reveal really wasn’t worth the effort of getting there.

So unfortunately, for me, this one started with some promise but didn’t see it through to the end.

With thanks to #HQStories and #Netgalley for allowing us to read this one early!

A Dark Past…
A dream house, an auction and a successful bid brings perhaps more than they bargained for in the case of Tom and Ellie. With a new baby the couple cannot believe their luck when number six Moss Lane is finally theirs. A dream come true. Or is it all too good to be true? As a dark past emerges and secrets surface is their seemingly perfect life about to come crumbling down? An engaging and chilling suspense with a, perhaps, well used premise but none the worse for that. Tense and compelling.

I read this book in a couple of days, it's ok, and I can say that I enjoyed it. I am someone who has read many (too many) psychological thrillers; therefore I found this plot a bit familiar. Things like woman who has baby and starts to see and hear things has been done before, moving to a new house, dead friend ditto, husband who is behaving erratically, ditto. Having said that it's ok, it doesn't have the major twists other thrillers have, but in a way it's different from other thrillers in ways I can't reveal without spoiling it. It's good because the characters are quite interesting, it's a story well told, even if it's not your usual thriller.
Ellie and Tom get a house at an action just before the birth of their baby. After moving in Ellie finds out that the previous owner Mary, had died in the house. There is nothing particularly strange about someone dying in a house. But then Ellie finds out more disturbing facts, and has more strange episodes and experience other strange events. Things can only get worse...

I genuinely enjoyed this! It’s the story of Ellie who moves to a lovely new home with her husband and new baby. The catch is that the house had been empty as the previous owner died, leaving quite a lot of work on top of the new baby to care for. It was a good mix of is Ellie losing the plot, is it a ghost or is it the husband! I liked that it was sensitively written too. Kept me guessing and I read it in 2 days flat!
Would recommend?!

Ellie is delighted to find her perfect home, ready to settle down with Tom and their new baby. But strange things start happening, and Ellie soon finds out that the house has a dark past. Ellie no longer knows who to trust and her dream house begins to turn into a nightmare... A thrilling story that keeps you reading until you reach the shocking ending. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

Wow. All the wows. A good debut.
Ellie knows she has found her dream home – number six Moss Lane. The place she and Tom can settle down, raise their new baby and start again. But why do their new neighbours think they’re so brave for moving in? Why are Ellie’s keys never where she left them? And why can Ellie hear strange noises in the night that Tom can’t? Suddenly their dream house no longer feels so perfect and when Ellie learns the truth about number six’s dark past, a truth that Tom has been keeping secret from her, she no longer knows who she can trust. Has their perfect home become her worst nightmare?
I couldn't believe on my eyes when I was reading this book. It's a good novel and I think everyone must read it. It has larger than life characters, wow narration and ofcourse a terrifying ending.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy of this book.
