The Wedding Bet by Susan Hatler
Kennedy and Stevie had worked together for a few years and Kennedy had a crush for him but Kennedy used to go out with one of Steve’s friends. Stevie teased Kennedy about her always looking for Prince Charming and he didn’t have a girlfriend for more than a few weeks. Then they went to an auction and both wanted the main item- an original poem. Kennedy wanted for her friends as a wedding gift and Steve because it was his grandparents favourite poem but an elderly woman bought it instead. They had to compete for it by doing tasks for her than she would decide who was most deserving.
A quick easy read though a bit repetitive in parts. Not Susan’s best I felt.
3.5/5
I really loved this book about friends yearning for each other, but allowing pride and insecurities to get in the way. The secondary character of Lori was great, as well as her dogs, and the whole book just felt really well written and the perfect length. The emotions were all very realistic and you just wanted to keep in reading. I'd definitely recommend for any lovers of clean romance novels, particularly if you're a fan of the friends to lovers trope
I'm usually not the biggest fan of the friends-to-lovers trope, but this did not disappoint! I thought this was a charming, sweet and enchanting story that followed Kennedy and Steve. This is the first book that I read in this series and now I'm tempted to go back into Susan Hatler's backlog and read the others.
Thank you to NetGalley, Hatco Publishing, and Susan Hatler for a copy of this eBook.
The Wedding Bet is a fast paced, fun, rom-com style story. Definetly more on the side of sweet romance than spicy, and full of wittyness and charm. Both Kennedy and Steve are relatable characters who just want to find someone to love and who loves them back in return. I really liked that there was no antagonist, because it allowed for the bets and the relationship to be the main drivers of the story. The only thing I didn’t like about this books is that it was too short! I wanted more of Kennedy and Steve, but at the same time
I hadn’t realized until almost half way through that this books is part of a series (which I absolutely will be getting my hands on!) but It wasn’t confusing reading it on its own. This book was very enjoyable and I’m excited to read more by Susan Hatler.
Love her other books. This one was great as well. Exceptional in its writing and plot. Recommend to all
Friends to lovers is my all-time favorite trope, and The Wedding Bet did not disappoint! It was adorable with spunky and fun characters I just wanted to hang out with! I loved Kennedy and Steve and their whole group of friends—everyone had such great chemistry together. Plus I loved Lori and her dogs messing with Kennedy and Steve!
This book drew a lot of broad fairytale references throughout, which I just loved. I thought Kennedy’s belief in love was so endearing and sweet. And Steve, I loved how kind and sexy he was. Their friendship is just so fun, I love their constant bets and barbs and all their antics helping Lori with her dogs. This development of their relationship just really warmed my heart. It isn’t a steamy romance, but it’s sweet and lovable. I was smiling the whole way through it.
It’s a quick read, but it’s filled with so much love and friendship and mischievous dogs, and it’s one I’d definitely recommend if you’re looking for a light romcom.
Thank you to NetGalley, the Publishers and the Author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Although this is part of a series, I read this as a standalone. This was a really sweet, clean romance that made me both laugh out loud and sigh with frustration at the miscommunication in equal measure. I loved the dynamic of the relationship, and how the author explored the believable obstacles that caused the miscommunication between the love interests.
I also really loved the addition of the two dogs as part of the ongoing bets that drove much of the plot and served as flirting between the love interests. Their antics really added to the story!
In summary, this was a sweet, whimsical book that is perfect for reading while curled up with a hot beverage.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Hatco Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This was a cute, fun book. The characters are likeable. It wasn't really my thing, but I still found some places of humor. 3.5 stars.
A relatively short story that follows Steve and Kennedy who are work buddies at a gym. Kennedy keeps putting herself out there and dating looking for Mr Right and Steve doesnt have a date that lasts more than a few days. The ending is expected as is the way that Steve and Kennedy decide to let each other know how they feel at the same time. There is a good bit of humour involving a couple of dogs and a crafty old lady which helps the plot along. A feel good, light hearted romance.
Light read. Short, almost novella length. A little frustrating that blurb was not first person to match the story. I rarely read first. But story was fun, and man, they just needed to actually TALK to each other.
I loved this book about Kennedy and Steve. Kennedy is sure that Steve has put her into the friend box when he sets her up with her friend after he heard her say that Cal was hot. After all, if he was interested in her, he would not have set her up. This is a clean romance about two friends who both want more but are afraid of rejection. This is a story about friendship and kindness and finding love. The storyline is awesome and the characters are realistic.
Sometimes it's not enough to just do what you believe is best for the person you care about: sometimes you need to actually talk to them about what they need or want. (Drastic!) Kennedy has been looking for her Prince Charming for years without success. The problem is that the one person she can really picture in the role doesn't believe in happily ever after - in fact, two years earlier, he set her up with his best friend, as if to prove he wasn't interested. But when she once again breaks up with her latest boyfriend, he bets her she can't go without dating for a while. Without that distraction and pushed together by a new friend and her two dogs, will Kennedy get her happy ending, or is she doomed to end up with a broken heart?
Okay, I know that's a stupid question - it's a romance, after all, and we wouldn't read them if they ever ended the wrong way! Seriously though, there are times when one really has to wonder about these two... This story has plenty of humour, but also a good mix of serious bits where the two actually interact and/or grow. Overall it's a light read, but there's still substance to it, perfect for a shortish escape from 'real life', whatever that might look like. As always with this author, the story is clean and the writing good. Though part of a series, it can be read on its own. I look forward to reading Carrie's story soon!
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
An easy-to-read book, about love and commitment. It made me realize the lack of faith in love people have been developing due to failure. It is like human beings can not deal with failure anymore, or any kind of negative emotion.

I really enjoyed this book. It was your normal best friends to lovers romance. Kennedy and Steve has always had this banter with making bets. Kennedy always thought Steve was a commitment phobe and Kennedy was always a romantic at heart. This was a quick read and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Great read!
Kennedy needs a wedding date, but when her friend and co-worker Steve bets that she can stop dating for a month will she be victorious? As the month progresses she finds herself falling for Steve, as they embark on tasks to try and get one up on each other, but will she admit how she feels?
Kennedy needs to slow down, which is why her last boyfriend broke up with her. No matter, finding a date to her friend’s wedding should be easy enough. But when her handsome co-worker challenges her that she dates the wrong guys, he bets she can’t go a month without dating. Will this bet make her realize her fairy-tale prince has been right here this whole time?
This book is fun and sweet. There aren't any real villains here. The characters are all nice, kind and decent people. The main characters especially are great... It's a delightful book and just the kind of book you want to read when you need to get away from the harsh reality of the world for a few hours. A terrific rom-com.
Thanks to the publisher for providing an arc.
In the author' bio, she describes herself as optimistic and it resonates through this book. Kennedy truly wanted to love as evidenced by the joy she felt in the poem that it wad the greatest wealth one could find. She brought exuberance to her Dad and friends whom she worked with at the gym. Yes, the premise was a bet with Steve regarding concert tickets but it went far beyond that. A fun and lighthearted read.
***Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
At only 129 pages, this can barely even be called a novel. There was no character development and they main protagonists both felt flat. There wasn't much chemistry and the story was pretty boring.
An enchanting story from start to finish! I loved this sweet romance that brings us friendly bets amongst co-workers, witty banter, playful moments with animals, and has an overall Cinderella vibe that captured my Disney-loving heart.
Kennedy and Steve are friends, both in denial they could ever be more, so it brings out their competitive sides, even when they're not at work. Throw in a matchmaking fairy godmother (in theory), and you have a delightful tale that will make you smile and want to read it all over again!
This is a fun and sweet short love story. Kennedy and Steve have been friends for a long time and bets are their thing. With the help of a mystery woman, an ex-boyfriend, their friends and two cute little dogs, they are going to find the perfect happy ending for this fairy tale couple.
I really enjoy the dialogs between them and the way they are together. There are a few sexy kisses and many funny moments.
It´s an easy reading and I totally recommended.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
