Thank you to #NetGalley and #Cornerstone Digital for an advance copy of #FearNoEvil by JamesPatterson
This is the 29th book in the #AlexCross series and the first one I have read.
How have I missed them !!!!!
From start to finish this is a rollercoaster of a ride. Going from Washington to Paris, Mexico to Montana the pace never lets up.
Weaving different stories to create one fantastic ending.
Although this book is part of a long running series I found it easy to read and the story flowed with just enough mention of previous happenings
A master storyteller and one I will be reading a lot more of.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
James Patterson’s Alex Cross series has endured for almost three decades, bringing to readers worldwide the unadulterated storytelling prowess of one of the most prolific and biggest selling authors in the world today. Fear No Evil, the 29th Alex Cross novel, had me excited from the moment I received the e-ARC courtesy of the author and the publishers via the lovely NetGalley!
Cross and his best friend John Sampson are barely hours away from embarking on an adventure trip into the wilderness of Montana, away from the city in all senses. As expected, their vacation ends even before it starts, when the body of a highly respected CIA operative is found along with a handwritten letter confessing to being sold out to a Mexican cartel. Soon, more law enforcement personnel start to turn up dead, seemingly the victims of some vigilante group, and Cross and the FBI rush from state to state in an effort to identify and stop the killers. To complicate matters further, the cartel, as per its own twisted logic, retaliates by slaughtering the victims’ families to scare the prospective confessors into silence. Amidst all this, Cross starts to receive some text messages from an old nemesis of his—known only as M—who seems to know a lot about the present case, as well as the intimate details of Cross’s family and friends. The breath-taking chase culminates in a final showdown in the treacherous wilderness where Cross and Sampson are up against not one but two sets of lethal assassins and, far more dangerous than both, grizzly bears!
I’ve lost touch with Patterson’s writing—his own, not his collaborations—for quite sometime and this one felt a bit different from the only other Alex Cross novel I’ve read, Along Came a Spider. While the series starter was a gripping suspense thriller where Alex pitted his wits against a shrewd serial killer, the latest one is low on suspense or mystery and pretty high on action. There is a prodigious body count and pulse-pounding action to match in Fear No Evil. There are many twists, some the reader could foresee and some quite unexpected. Running simultaneously with the breakneck action is the theme of family, friendship, love and loyalty that lends a nice human touch to the novel. Tiny chapters, sharp dialogues, crisp descriptions and the endearing characters from Cross’s and Sampson’s families—Nana Mama, Ali and Willow especially—make this one a lightning fast, fun read. The sub-plots involving the exploits of Bree Stone—Cross’s wife and former Metro PD detective—on her mission to Paris to nab a rotten, embezzling billionaire, and Ali Cross’s skills of detection, are engaging, too.
There are things that didn’t work for me, as well, in Fear No Evil. About twenty years after he first appeared, M is as elusive as ever, and that is just not done. And there are a few questions—questions I can’t mention here for fear of spoiling it—that are left unanswered, perhaps to hook the reader onto the next episode; but someone of Patterson’s stature doesn’t have to do that, does he?
Fear No Evil is a great addition to the beloved Alex Cross series and I sincerely wish that Patterson writes more and more on his own rather than collaborating with other writers…
Fear No Evil (Alex Cross book 29) by James Patterson is a 5 star read.
You’re always guaranteed a thrilling read when you pick up a James Patterson book especially one written about Alex Cross. There’s twists and turns and a whole lot of guessing.
I love everything written by this author and can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley.
Fear No Evil is pure escapism - a thrilling adventure that starts thousands of miles apart but converges in the most exciting and thrilling ways. Featuring all of the main characters we have come to know and love from James Patterson, Fear No Evil is another great Alex Cross novel.. For the first half or so of the story, Alex and Bree are working two different cases, but the re-emergence of the mysterious M causes events to escalate and we're along for the ride!
Fear No Evil is perfect for dark winter nights, a rollercoaster from start to finish!
I love an Alex Cross book and look forward to this time of the year as it’s usual to have a new one to read and this one did not disappoint. Another gripping read, this one with Alex and his trusted partner and best friend Sampson being chased across Montana by an arch enemy and a few bears thrown into the mix too. Alex never lets us down and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would like to thank Net Galley and the publisher for the chance to read this early proof.
Alex Cross is off to rural Montana with his long time friend and partner John Sampson for a well deserved break. Unbeknownst to them there is a target on their backs by two groups of assassins controlled by one mastermind. In an incredible journey across tough terrain can Cross and Sampson outsmart their adversaries and prevail, with the hopes of finding the answers to who is behind this wicked vendetta?
James Patterson has several great characters in his books, but for me Alex Cross is the gold standard and this book is the perfect example why.
Another sensational story that is fast paced, enthralling and keeps the reader on edge throughout with a finale that will take your breath away.
James Patterson still continues to astound me with his writing. He never misses a beat and never short changes the reader.
I loved this book and highly recommend it.
I know we are at book 29 and it's a lot to catch up with if you are just meeting Alex Cross for the first time but I do think this book is best enjoyed if you have the full story of the person who has stalked Alex for years. As well as the back stories of the main characters. It's a great series so, if do have some time on your hands, please start from book one and read in order.
So, in this book Alex, Bree and Sampson all have their own stuff going on. Its all a bit convoluted and interconnected (as per usual) so I'll try not to give anything away.
There's a body, with a devastating confession on it which links back to a nefarious gang leader. Alex and Sampson are called in to assist. Then both get messages from M, a familiar stalker who has been goading the both for a while. Meanwhile Bree has her own assignment in Paris, undercovering evidence to put a slimeball away. A simple enough assignment but one which turns bad quite quickly. Sampson also has a dilemma to sort out.
And then we have Alex and Sampson who just want to get away from it all, to go to Montana for a "boys trip". This also goes a bit astray when, well, let's just say that there are two other side in the game and both are gunning for them!
This is typical Cross, heavy on the action and so much at stake. But there's also the cerebral to be found, as you'd expect from Alex. But spoilers prevent me from going further. There are nasty scenes of torture and no punches are pulled in the descriptions of some of the things that happen.
The plot is expertly crafted and executed and, as already mentioned is a bit convoluted so you need your wits about you. But it's interesting and intriguing and, with the short punchy chapters, goes along at a fair lick. I read start to finish in a day, only stopping to "do the necessary"! It's action packed all the way pretty much with only the odd quieter times for reader respite!
Oh, and the ending, not as much as a shock as the author would have hoped for me, well... that just makes me yearn for the next in series all the more. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this action packed book
alex and sampson at their best
with a planned vacation for alex and sampson along rugged mountains and rapids, a time for reflection and saying goodbye to sampson wife who had died, things dont go as planned for our intrepid explorers as gunmen fire on them...
and with a grizzly bear somewhere on their path as well, its all hands on deck to survive this trip
brilliant to catch up with cross and his family, and the other people in this book...its just got better and better all over again
Another brilliant book in the Alex Cross series.
I love this time of the year as I know a new Alex Cross will be out.
This is an action packed read that will have you racing through the pages.
An old enemy of Alex and Sampson, ‘M’ starts to send them texts letting them know he’s watching them.
They’re then pulled onto a case where the body count rises rapidly and it seems a drug cartel and a group of assassins are at war.
Cross and Sampson soon become the targets for both groups and they try and work out if ‘M’ is also after their blood.
They end up in the wilds of Montana and it’s clear both groups want them dead, as they hunt them down.
This is a gripping crime thriller and as ever, I can’t wait for the next book.
Thanks to Random House UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Another great Alex Cross story. Never ending action. I just didnt want to put this book down.
Thank you to Random House UK and Netgalley for this advanced copy of the latest Alex Cross book
It’s been awhile since I last read an Alex Cross novel and this was like meeting an old friend. He’s definitely one of the best police/FBI characters of recent times. James Patterson is one of the best crime fiction writers and this book doesn’t disappoint! Such a fast paced moving plot line and I was hooked from page one, only took me 2 days to finish this book. Highly recommended read.
Another gripping story in the Alex Cross series.
This is an exciting storyline with Alex and Sampson working together to defeat an old adversary.
James Patterson has written many excellent series but for me this is the best. A must read series.
What can you say about James Patterson - never disappoints, never going to a literary masterpiece but it is always enjoyable. It has been a while since I caught up with John and Alex but I soon got back into the family.
Really enjoyable
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Another excellent Dr. Alex Cross book, keeping you on the edge of your seat with the character descriptions and plot twists you feel the story come alive. It's James Patterson at his best. This is a book series you need to read!
Another high octane thriller in the Dr. Alex Cross series ( No. 29) which readers of James Patterson will love. It can easily be read as a stand-alone but it’s a great series if you want to go back and read more. Well written this book grabbed me from the start and I read it over the course of a day.
Briefly, as Cross and Detective John Sampson are about to get away on a break to Montana they are called back to investigate the murder of a CIA agent. When they do eventually get away they find themselves been both pursued by and pursuers of two opposing groups of assassins, one controlled by a man who has stalked Cross and his family for years.
There are some great descriptions of the scenery and great characterisations. An easy read from beginning to end with a high body count and some brutal twists along the way. A real page turner and deserves a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating
I loved this latest Alex Cross book! For me it felt like one of the early Cross books; the plot was exhilarating and non-stop, the twists never stopped coming and I always enjoy the characters. I am never too keen when plots start to focus too much on the central characters instead of an investigation angle, in this read, the case does focus around Cross and Sampson but in a good way, they are key to the investigation throughout, I enjoyed seeing where it took them and Patterson sets it up well for the next book in the series.
I always love reading about m favourite Cross family and this was no different. I particularly enjoyed Bree's storyline in this, she has her own plot thread which starts to cross over with Alex's as the book goes on.
This was a first class Alex Cross read, full of drama and excitement, I loved it.
Alex Cross and Sampson are back. Preparing to have some time off, they are pulled back on an investigation just as they are preparing to leave and what a ride this is.
Bree also off on her own investigation which sees Alex fly across the pond to her.
Fast action in this one. James Patterson and Alex Cross back at their best.
When it comes to east reading thrillers James Patterson has the market cornered.
This is fast paced as usual and Alex is put through it again but for all it’s ridiculous plot lines (a good thing!) there is always an undertone of family and love which makes it relatable even though it’s wild.
#FearNoEvil #NetGalley Wow! What a rollercoaster. This book hit the ground running and was jammed packed full of action from page 1. Great storyline and although this book can be read as a standalone, it would certainly give the reader more enjoyment to know the back story of Alex and Samson and their history with the mysterious M. This series is always a great read and I very much look forward to the next installment. Superb 5 star read!
Fear No Evil told from a few different perspectives, plenty going on in this latest novel. Just as Alex Cross and John Sampson are about to take a break from work, a new mission is brought to them, investigating the murder of a member of the CIA, with cases to follow. Will they get that vacation they needed?...
Another great read from James Patterson, I really enjoyed this latest edition of Alex Cross series. Whilst part of a series, could also easily be read as a standalone. Look forward to more from this author.
