Omg how she do it every time?? How she manages to make me cry every time I read a book from her ?? This is such an emotional read ! Even though I have read it days before I’m still thinking about it, this happens every time I read a new book from Colleen.
This one touch me so much , I felt sorry for Kenna and I was aching for her. Her journey is emotional, intense and it’s not easy .For one more time the characters are complex and you can’t stop yourself for loving them . There were moments I felt so connected with her and I could understand her .
This is such a beautiful and captivating story that will make you cry .
Reminders of him - Colleen Hoover
Rating 5/5⭐️
Spicy 🌶/5
I ATE this book up and I even forgot to annotate it 😭
Omg... this book was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!
I don't even know why I'm surprised anymore. Colleen never disappointed me before. She's like a goddess I swear. If you haven't read a single book from her, this is your sign to do it!
Things I loved about it (not that there is something I didn't):
1. everything was so real. The characters, the actions, the choices. Characters' choices weren't made just to direct the story somewhere, I think the character led Colleen to the final story.
2. the impact of the story and the way it started. Truly amazing. Colleen's brain is full of some ideas that never crossed my mind.
3. The way the chapters just flew me into a whole new world. I have to be honest. It wasn't a big plot twist or something but it wasn't boring at all. And the reason is that after you'll read this, you'll leave with something to learn. That's Colleens' specialty.
4. Everything. Every chapter, every line, every action, every character.
This is not a basic story and I promise you... you will eat this book up!
5/5, good job. We love you CoHo <3
This book destroyed me!
I’ve been a huge fan of Colleen Hoover ever since I read Verity in 2020 as it’s easily one of my all time favourite reads that I’m always recommending. I’ve been able to squeeze a few more in by her but this one truly cemented her as a MUST read author for me and I can’t wait to go back and read all her backlist titles!
I find her writing style truly exquisite! There is just something so beautiful about the way she tells a story and can so easily connect with the readers by pulling at all of our heartstrings! This devastating story will leave you ultimately questioning everything you ever believed.
This emotional story of forgiveness and redemption was incredibly captivating largely due to Hoovers ability to write such rich and intricate characters. Those who know me know these are rare, but this one gets ALL the stars from me!
Wow. Just wow. I mean my best advice always with any Colleen Hoover book is to go in blind. Always.
This book is no different. Just know the words we love about CoHo are here. And these characters are unforgettable.
CoHo did it again, she tore my heart apart, made me tear up, and experience so many different emotions just from her words and story plot. This book was wonderful, it was heartbreaking, sad, emotional, and yet happy all rolled into one.
I was so excited to receive this book to read, and let me tell you-IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! This was a five star read for a reason. CoHo touched on so many different aspects from trauma, love, loss, mental health, family relations, and so much more. This had me feeling all the feels. I binge read this in a couple days, and it kept me up WAY past my bed time!
This story follows Kenna Rowan as she moves back to her hometown after serving 5 years in prison- the town where it all happened-the good and the horribly bad. After experiencing first love, heart break and traumatic loss Kenna is back in hopes of finding her four year old daughter, who she has never gotten to meet.
Her life was turned upside down after a tragic mistake turned horribly bad. Not only did Kenna lose the love of her life, but she also lost her daughter, her freedom, and ultimately-lost herself.
She moves back to the town where the tragedy happened, hoping to connect with her daughter-the only thing is that her ex’s parents have been taking care of her daughter, and have no interest in letting Kenna be part of her life. Kenna is beside herself, and will stop at nothing to get to know her daughter. With the help of a stranger, who turns out to be her ex’s best friend, Kenna may have a fighting chance.
Ledger owns a bar, where Kenna just happens to go to one night. They have an undeniable connection, but Ledger has no idea that Kenna is his best friend’s ex. Ledger and Kenna’s relationship develops and evolves, but when Ledger finds out the truth it puts him in a really hard situation. Ledger is friends with his best friend’s parents, who live right across the street, with Kenna’s daughter, whom he has cared for and developed a bond with since she was born.
Can two complete strangers, whose lives are intertwined, make the right decisions together in hopes of a happy ending??
This book is a rollercoaster-from the beginning it is heartbreaking and sad. This is a story of loss, grief, redemption, and strength, hope, never giving up, forgiveness and fighting for what you believe in. This is a total tear jerker, and beautifully written story. CoHo knows how to make her stories so relatable to so many, which ultimately really connects me to the characters so I am 100% invested and attached to them. This story is moving and touching in so many ways. This is not an easy read, but it is 100% worth it and oh so amazing in every way. Thank you again, Queen CoHo, for ripping my heart out, crumbling it to pieces, and putting it back together again, all with your beautiful worse and storytelling.
Read this if you are up for an emotional rollercoaster, love a good heartbreak, romance, and intense read. My suggestion is to go into this one blindly, with no expectations.
I'm honestly still processing this well-written story of forgiveness and healing. There's no doubt that Colleen writes beautifully written books and while I miss her older books, and wished we'd get back there. I saw Reminders of Him circulating and curiosity got the best of me. With not really reading the women's fiction genre, this was a solid 4 for me.
I can't even imagine being in such a tough situation. A single mistake that changed sooo many lives and even after 5 years, the wounds are still very much open.
My heart broke over and over for Kenna. Grief after grief and so many regrets. And now wants to move forward in hopes of having a relationship with her daughter. But my goodness, the barriers she'd have to get through to finally have that moment was not a simple one. Soooo many tears were shed, but I had hope for her because well, I had to.
And then we have sweet Ledger, he is absolutely everything. A man soo loyal to his family even when his heart is calling to another, and just wants to bring her into the fold. It nearly rips you apart to see all the tough positions every character is in.
Being the romance lover that I am, I craved more of that and will always beg for more. But in Reminders of Him, it's not the sole focus, which is something that I expected since Colleen's books don't always have a strong romance plot.
I absolutely devoured this, Colleen has always written in a way that completely captivates you. And this will resonate with so many.
🔊Song Pairing: Best of Me - Sum 41
(This was a very difficult one. No song felt right but I felt that this song held a relatable amount of pain that Kenna was feeling)
💭What I thought would happen:
Honestly, didn’t love the title. I thought it would be girl meets boy, boy is damaged, girl changes him. I’m so glad I was wrong
📖What actually happens:
Kenna has spent the last cent to her name getting to the town where Scotty grew up. However, Scotty is has been dead for 5 years and Kenna has just gotten her freedom after a 5 year prison sentence for killing her ex boyfriend. She has returned in the unlikely hopes that she could meet her 5 year old daughter who is in the custody of Scotty’s parents.
Kenna is at rock bottom flooded with hope and desperation and nothing left to lose. She goes to her favourite bookshop that is now a bar (how dare they) and encounters the massive tattoo’d man who points at everyone, Ledger (like Heath). What Kenna doesn’t know is that Ledger is a focal point in her daughter’s life and Ledger despises Kenna more than anyone on this planet for taking away his best friend.
🗯Thoughts:
Excuse me as I blow my nose, wipe my eyes and collect my thoughts. This book was devastatingly beautiful. The pain Kenna experienced throughout this book felt like it was injected into my system, an IV drip of this MC’s trauma coursing through me.
I could not read this in one sitting. The elements of this made it unbearable. I had to read in increments at a time. By no means because it wasn’t good or poorly written, in fact the opposite. CoHo did it again!
I am slowly making my way through all of CoHo’s books and I was so ecstatic that this one held a different kind of love in it. Love for a daughter, love for a dead lover, love for a life that almost was.
I cannot wait to read every review of this book. A heartbreaking journey.
This book!! In true Colleen Hoover fashion, this book takes you through all the emotions and pulls at your heart strings!
Kenna is hoping to reunite and build a relationship with her four-year-old daughter, whom she’s hasn’t seen since she has given birth. Kenna has been spending the last five years in prison for a tragic mistake that has changed her life. When she arrives in town, she faces numerous obstacles that makes seeing her daughter very difficult. Through her journey she is healing from her mistake, finds love and hopes for forgiveness in order to build a future where she can be in her daughter’s life.
I loved everything about this book – the characters, the story, the emotions. It’s an amazing story of hope, healing, redemption and love. I was rooting for Kenna every step of the way!
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review..
Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover
I give this book 5 stars
After serving 5 years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her 4 year-old daughter.
The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk.
A touching story from an author that provides so much emotion within her books. Jenna and Ledger tell their compelling pov’s. The story feels so natural and real that you commit to the characters in a way that you truly feel the devastation, heartache, love and forgiveness involved . An intense read that once you pick it up you WONT be able to put it down until you’ve finished it.
I had to wait a few days before l could write my review. Colleen Hoover just gets better with each book!
With thanks to Netgalley,Colleen Hoover and Montlake for my chance to read and review this book
(3.5⭐️) Should one panicked, bad choice dictate the rest of your life? Does that split second decision determine your character for your entirety?
If you need a good cry, look no further. This is an emotional journey, especially to the tender mama heart.
Kenna just got released from prison. She’s haunted by the time she lost with her daughter, and all she wants is to finally see her daughter’s face. But that fateful decision she made five years ago might prevent that from ever happening.
This is my second CoHo, and it is vastly different from my first, Verity. While I found the storyline lacking in depth, it did connect strongly to my emotions. Just as I wanted to roll my eyes at the oceans of tears that Kenna (continually!) cried, I found a lump in my own throat.
I read this one quickly, starting it one night and finishing it the next morning. The short chapters held my attention and allowed me to ponder thoughts on growth and forgiveness. While this story felt a bit too predictable and perfect for me as a whole, I see it being another big CoHo hit.
Thank you Colleen Hoover, Montlake, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book.
💫4.5 stars💫
From exactly 10:30pm to 2am at night i read this book without any break. (Is it any surprise i have dark circles?) I dived in it the minute it dropped on my Kindle.
Now , I don't want to say the overused phrase "CoHo did it again!" ...i mean whenever I hear it I'm like "duh! What else did you expected''.
For that reason alone I'm gonna say Hoover didn't disappoint with this one because as much as, like her other books has emotionally destroyed me and also taught me so many things, i haven't cried as much i have in this book of CoHo.
With Reminders of him I sobbed when i was 20% in , i cried when i was 50% in and i choked while crying when i was 80% in , it's all about what and how beautifully the most emotional scenes are written with such agony and pain, that as an apathetic person, i was shocked to FEEL. (Altho that only happens when i read books , can't feel anything in real life smh)
As much as i don't want to spoil anything in Reminders of him because ofc i can't it's an ARC review duh. So i want to explain the repercussions of what happens when you finish an emotional book written by CoHo at 2am in the night. What happens is , you lose sleep over imagining the pain the character was in , imagining YOURSELF in the near death situation , imagining a thousand ways how you could've made the right choices. But most of all , what comes from these imaginations is the lesson it taught you.
Not gonna lie , when i first started reading this book and how Kenna was hoping to meet her daughter , because she didn't have custody of her , i got major 'Confess' vibes , but i continued reading because ofc its not gonna be the exact same thing. And after reading and reading and reading , i got to the point where I have to take a minute and think about it emotionally. (Shocking , yet true) why do i have to think about it emotionally? This book made me realise so many things and has all the feels with such intensity that I can't help but wonder. -that's it- I can't help but WONDER. Imagine. Think. Relate.
The .5 star which is missing from my rating is my personal issue , which is : i am not much of a patient person so it seems a little bit dragging and slow at pace , which was probably because the characters were just dodging and avoiding the inevitable. Also , some of the things which later on happened was predictable from the start. The characters were frustrating at times but the next minute i was crying for them.
Nevertheless , the things , the feels , the lessons , ‘Reminders of Him’ had will forever be branded in me , and hence , with this, i found my first favourite book of the year 2022.
Reminders Of Him by Colleen Hoover.
Kenna Rowan just got released from prison for a mistake. Now she is out and trying to get back into her 4 year old daughter's life, who has been given custody to her deceased boyfriend's parents. It was an easy read, nothing majorly emotional (for me) but it was sad. Losing someone, unexpected death, questioning the bond between mother and child. About forgiveness. About change and changing. About love. I believe this will be the first CoHo book that i didn't want to throw against a wall in a fit of anger. Or because an MC is dodgy with a million and one red flags. LOL!
I think the parts that really touched my heart were these letters Kenna writes to her boyfriend, Scotty. She never had anyone important in her life; father left, mother neglected her. So Scotty was someone really important. Someone who genuinely loved her. And she loved back. And even after his death, she wrote all these letters to 'confide' in him and share her feelings and thoughts or just as a 'dear diary' medium. Also in these letters were what really happened as a comparison and explanation to what Scotty's loved ones perceived. I know it's not exactly an original idea. In fact, the whole story is rather predictable. And the ending was tied up too easily and quickly. But i liked that in comparison to her other works that i've read, this was not filled with red flags. The characters were not questionable. The side characters were a hit! This would be considered mild on the CoHo novels long list. Mild yet still heartbreaking.
This is a messy and heartbreaking story that is truly unique. The characters are not perfect and that is what makes this story so real when you are reading it. You will fall in love with Kenna and Ledger to the point where the pages leave you laughing, crying, and unable to put the book down all at once. This book had a perfect mix of character development while still heavily focusing on the plot.
After her release from prison, Kenna Rowan hopes to reunite with the four-year-old daughter, Diem, she’d given birth to at the beginning of her sentence. Five years prior, a tragic mistake led to her arrest, and her daughter has been raised by her late boyfriend’s parents. Most of the people in Diem’s life are against allowing Kenna to meet her daughter, but an unexpected connection with local bar owner, Ledger Ward, offers Kenna a spark of hope.
In a story of second chances and redemption, Colleen Hoover yet again delivers an outstanding, heart-wrenching novel. She writes in a way that allows you to understand each character’s perspective, especially Ledger’s position in the middle of this impossible situation. The complexity of the characters makes it hard to “side” with certain characters vs. others, making for a thought-provoking read that keeps you questioning what you would do if put in these circumstances. This is a story filled with grief, trauma, longing, and hope, and it was an unputdownable book that you could easily binge-read in one sitting.
Thank you to NetGalley & Montlake Romance for this gifted e-ARC!
Every single Colleen Hoover book I read ends up being mind-blowing. This book features a tragic night, a tragic sentencing and a journey back to mending hearts. I completely binge read this one; I couldn’t get enough of it. I absolutely adored the two main characters. I especially adored the dialogue between the main characters and the coworkers (Lady Diana and Roman). There were times I laughed out loud and times I wanted to throw my apple slices across the living room out of frustration. Highly recommend ❤️. Reminders of Him releases January 18th, 2022!
Here’s two quotes that really resonated with me:
“So, you decide right now, right here. Are you gonna live in your sadness or are you gonna die in it?”
“It proves that time, distance, and devastation allow people enough opportunity to craft villains out of people they don’t even know. But Kenna was never a villain. She was a victim. We all were.”
"There was before you and there was during you. For some reason, I never thought there would be an after you."
It's no secret that Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite romance authors, so when I found out she was releasing a new contemporary romance, I came running!
REMINDERS OF HIM is a heart wrenching story that centers forgiveness, grief, trauma, and unconditional love. I really suggest going into this book (and all CoHo books) completely blind. What I will say though is that it is a heavyyy one. The overall tone is a little more somber and emotional than her other books (the only one I would remotely compare it to is All Your Perfects). Also unlike most of her other reads, there is a second major plot point aside from the romance that we see consistently throughout the book.
🤍 I loved both of our MCs so much it hurt. Kenna does a few frustrating things in the book, but I think it just makes her human. The way she navigates her grief and the decisions she makes after are so heartbreaking, but also relatable. She has so much determination and perseverance which made her easy to root for. And Ledger ... gosh he all the praise!
Most of all I really appreciated this storyline. I found it powerful that Colleen chose to shine a small light on the struggles that incarcerated women go through and what adjusting back into society can look like. (I could say more on this topic and others that are in the book, but will refrain due to spoilers)
As a side note, the acknowledgments really hit home for me. As someone who reads to escape and has faced a lot of changes this past year (as we all have) it really resonated with me.
Colleen Hoover's books are extremely popular here at our high school, and I am so excited I got a sneak peek at her latest book! Reminders of Him is a fast-paced book that moved me to tears, but it ends with hope. When Kenna is released from prison after serving five years, she will do anything to see the daughter who was born at the beginning of Kenna's sentence. Kenna has been charged with the involuntary murder of her daughter's father, and the story of what happened is slowly revealed throughout the story. When Kenna returns to Scotty's hometown to look for her daughter, she meets an unlikely ally in Scotty's best friend, Ledger. Hoover does an amazing job of making the reader feel every emotion Kenna feels while trying to get her life back together; I felt the heartbreak she feels being separated from her daughter right along with her. Highly recommended for romance fans who enjoy tales of love and redemption--thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the librarian preview!
As always Collen Hoover wrote a beautiful and emotional story. I teared up four times and got the finger tingles five times. So be ready for all the emotions! It held everything I want in a book: real emotions, romance, angst, and real life struggles. My heart broke throughout the book but Ledger put it back together. I binged this in one sitting. I don't know what Hoover puts in her writing but it is just so addicting!
Colleen Hoover did it again!
Be ready to feel all the feels. I cried, I laughed and then I cried again! As a mom this story hit me hard! Imagine making a terrible decision and it costs someone their life....and then having to live with it and the consequences to those actions. I felt for everyone in this story and Colleen Hoover did amazing job showing all the sides.
This is a new favorite and one I will be thinking about for a very long time!
" Maybe it doesn't matter whether something is a coincidence of a sign. Maybe the best way to cope with loss of the people we love is to find them in as many places and things as we can. And in off chance that the people we lose are still somehow able to hear us, maybe we should never stop talking to them."
This book is about the strength of a mothers love, whether you are fighting for a child, or struggling over losing one and second chances, forgiveness and moving forward.
WOW! I can't say I'm surprised that this book ripped my heart our from beginning to end... its Colleen Hoover we're talking about here. I was obsessed with this book from the very first page. I loved the characters, their relationships, their feelings...all the things. and can we talk about LEDGER!?! Not only did he lose his best friend, but he stepped up and helped raise his little girl when he didn't have too, offering physical, emotional and mental support to Scotty's parents.. but he also took Kenna under his wing after he figured out what a great person she was, despite the mistakes he was so angry at her for. I loved the character development Kenna made in this book... and I also loved that she wrote letters to Scotty for all the years he was gone... and DIEM!! oh she is the cuteness... This book made me fell all the emotions (as every CoHo book does)... sadness, heart break, fear, anger, hope, happiness... all of them. definitely grab your tissues.
Thank you Netgalley, Montlake and Colleen Hoover for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
