I have given Walking On Sunshine by Giovanna Fletcher four out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There is something so special about the way Giovanna Fletcher writes; her descriptions are so encapsulating and I find it really helps to draw the reader in.

In this book, we follow three best friends on an expedition to Peru to trek the Machu Picchu trail in memory of their friend Pia who they lost to breast cancer. Pia left rules for them to complete and one of those was to travel somewhere and that’s exactly what they do. This is a story about loss, grief, love, self-love and friendship.

It was very emotional and moving, I may have had tears in my eyes towards the end of the book. I absolutely adore Giovanna’s writing and can only look forward to reading her backlog and future books.

Giovanna Fletcher always manages to produce such simply lovely books, very wholesome reads that actually have depth to them, without being too gritty or fake.

Walking on Sunshine is no exception. An uplifting novel focusing on three friends mourning the recent death of their fourth - a best friend and partner to one of the three. Told in chapters from the perspectives of Mike, Zaza and Vicky, each is facing their own issues on top of their grief, and in Pia’s memory and wishes decide to take on a Peruvian Trek together.

Given that Fletcher has herself taken on the trek in the book, it feels a very honest and accurate portrayal of a difficult but rewarding challenge, and gives the read a sense of confidence and personal experience.

All in all very wholesome, pure and enjoyable reading - classic Giovanna Fletcher.

I really really tried to read this book but I just couldn’t finish it. The grief was immeasurable and it hurt my heart. I’m sure it’s well written but I just couldn’t get through the sadness. I hope to come back to it one day.

Perhaps Giovanna's best yet.
This was such a beautiful story of friendship, and I felt that it went a little deeper than previous works by the author. I felt that the book dealt with grief and navigating it very well.

Walking on Sunshine is a book about loss, love and friendship. Three friends go on a life changing trek in memory of their friend who recently passed away. It touches on important topics such as cancer and post natal depression in an uplifting manner.

A wonderful story of friendship. Doing something totally out of your comfort range because of a note left by their dead friend, opens up a whole host of feelings from crying, laughing, loneliness to realising that what you have already is more than enough. A wonderful mixture of life’s ups and downs and noones life is 100% perfect.

This book reminded me a little of PS I Love You, and The Single Dad's Handbook. It's a lovely tale of friendship, loss, grief, and starting again.

I didn't always love the writing, and some of the characters irked me a little.

Reminiscent of PS I Love You, this is a story of grief, acceptance and life after loss. It was a bit different to other Giovanna Fletcher books that I've read in that the focus was more on friendships than romance but I really liked that. It was a nice feel good read.

I've always enjoyed Giovanna Fletchers novels, so I was very excited to get my hands on her latest offering, Walking on Sunshine.

Mike, Pia, Zaza and Vicky have been the best of friends forever. When they lose Pia, the remaining three are united in their grief whilst struggling to maintain their lives individually. Mike is drowning; Pia was the light of his life and without her, he just cannot see a way forward. Zaza has recently got engaged, but she still finds herself struggling to commit, even though she knows she should. And Vicky is a wife and mother, both of which are roles that she loves but she just cannot seem to find herself.

The one thing I will say is that I felt that Walking on Sunshine is quite different to Giovanna's other novels. When the theme of a novel centres around grief, it's quite difficult to keep the story light. What Giovanna achieves is a story about a difficult subject, whilst bringing a lightness to the friendships that this novel centres on. That is what this story is really about - friendship. Walking on Sunshine definitely wasn't what I was expecting it to be, but I loved it all the same. Mike, Zaza and Vicky are all truly there for each other, united by their love of Pia, their long standing friendship grows more as they grieve together. By opening up to each other on their Peruvian trek they are able to open themselves up when they return home to their loved ones.

This is such a great novel, and I am very happy to recommend it to you all. It's a moving novel full of love and friendship, so go and grab yourself a copy and let me know what you think!

I know alot of people love Giovanna Fletcher's books but I always seem to struggle with them. This one is no different than the others I have picked up. With good moments and bad (enough to make me almost consider to continuing).

Maybe this author just isn't for me. And that's ok.

I am a massive, massive fan of Giovanna Fletcher but this book just didn't captivate me at all. I very rarely stop reading a book unless I've finished it but by 3/4 of the way through, I had to give up. The characters irritated me and I didn't feel any connection to the characters or the storyline.

Thank you so much to Netgalley for a copy of Walking on Sunshine by Giovanna Fletcher. It is the first of her books that I have read. I really enjoyed this book and found it very relatable and touching. I especially related to the character of Vicky. This book is about 3 friends who have suffered a loss and are on a journey of self discovery. It has encouraged me to read more book by Giovanna. It is not a book that I would read over again but it was enjoyable and certainly makes you think about your own life. Uplifting and thought provoking.

Walking on Sunshine

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I loved this book. A tale of love, life, death and grief, of triumph over adversity. Who hasn't wanted to press pause on real life, to travel to the other side of the world, to face our feelings and to challenge ourselves? My only fault, it all seemed just a little *too* easy. As cruel as I may sound, I wanted our protagonists to really go through the ringer before they have their life changing 'top of the mountain' moment, I'm not sure Gi really managed to capture quite how broken they were meant to have become. That said, she did an amazing job of writing their grief, it was such a clever and accurate portrayal of what it's like to lose a loved one. Often books focus on the loss of someone when it happens, but this follows the three a few months down the line, when the sympathy and support have waned and everyone else is back to 'normal'.

It's a very life affirming, heart warming and easy read, I highly recommend it.

I've been a huge Giovanna Fletcher fan since she brought us Billy & Me.

I adored this book, the characters in it & the adventure they go on.... I was immersed. I may have turned the last page but this book still has a tiny piece of my heart.
