A great sampler that made me wish to read the book soon. Good storytelling and world building.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books UK for providing a sampler of the opening of this book.

The opening of Perfectly Preventable Deaths promises a chilling mystery set in the heart of Ireland. We are introduced to the main character, Madeline, and her twin sister Caitlin - both of whom are the same age as many girls who have gone missing or have been found murdered around their new home which, in itself, is a refurbished castle.

Madeline is a captivating main character with hints of otherness about her which could potentially be explained by a placement on the autistic spectrum - a representation which is sorely lacking in most other YA texts and which is needed. The writing is easy to follow and the characters feel rounded out within the first couple of chapters of this book, promising a deep relationship throughout the rest of the text.

Whilst this review is only based on the sampler provided it promises a good story, engaging writing, and a diverse cast of characters.

This was a great teaser into this book, I loved the setting, being Irish myself anything that brings Ireland into it always makes me feel a kind of cosy and the characetrs and plot from what i read where good also. It was funny which i didnt expect neccessarily but liked and i cant wait to read the full book as I definitely wanted more after the sampler

We are thrown straight into the story in this sampler. Sullivan uses short and jarring sentences to create a sense of unease. The atmosphere of the place and people are set up well to make the spooky vibes of the novel to come. There's a small sense of confusion in the prologue bit that sort of adds tk the unease as we don't know what we are in for. Looking forward to reading the full novel.

Really enjoyable opening section with strong sense of place and characters. Keen to read more as the world being set up seems fascinating and potentially quite dark.

Two teenage sisters move with their mum and step dad, into a castle within a forest in Ireland, built by an old eccentric dude, in an area where the bodies of dismembered teenage girls have been found...I think I just found my Halloween read! This book sounds creepy as heck, in the best way, thank you for the sample. Even from just the first chapter it's clear that Deirdre Sullivan is a beautifully skilled and clever writer, I honestly can't wait to read the whole book now.
