"The Bruja is Missing" by Cédric Mayen with art by Sandra Cardona is a graphic novel of supernatural adventure

Norah, a young woman discovers her powerful witch aunt, Bruja, has vanished. She begins her search at her aunt’s manor and interrupts a ritual and now finds herself teamed up with an unlikely partner: Lucifer, who is trapped on Earth and in need of her help to return to Hell.

There is some decent humor here to lighten what could have been potentially scary content. I never felt like Norah wasn’t in complete control, making me wonder who the real trickster is here. The art is pretty good in this book. My only complaint might be how short it is and that the story is continued.

In the first volume of this comic collection, a young witch searching for her missing aunt while dealing with the little demons (and the actual Devil they conjured) along the way. There’s way more to it, of course, but that’s the gist. It’s got witches. It’s got minor demons. It’s got the Devil. It’s got Beelzebub. So much going on in here, and it leaves you wanting more.

The art style is the main thing I’d like to highlight here. It’s got cozy illustrated vibes with excellent lines and a muted color scheme. It’s beautiful. The plot unfolds interestingly with the initial introduction and disappearance of the witch, then what goes on while her little demons play, then the Devil showing up, and then the witch’s niece showing up to look for her and teaming up (reluctantly) with the Devil to find her aunt and return him to Hell. Definitely recommend for a something fun and different.

This was a very interesting read. At first it was a bit hard to understand and get into the story. Also, the print with incredibly small. In this, a young girl is a witch with no real magic but she’s trying to learn. Her aunt wants to do something special, and the rest of the coven won’t allow it. So the aunt flies off the study on her own, leaving her niece to figure out what’s happened when she disappears. The niece walked into her aunt’s house, where a demon, or the devil had been summoned through the trial and error of a house pet. This book is both fun and emotional. The illustrations are an amazing adventure in pastel colors. Overall, the book really works, and I would like to see more books in the series.

A little slow paced, with art that is just a bit too busy. Not sure where it is going exactly, other than one of Satan's minions wants the key to hell and has kidnapped a witch to try to get it.

The artwork and story were well done and a great pick to read in Fall. It was a tad short for my preference but I would still recommend to others who enjoy graphic novels and/or witchy books.

I love finding some great reads on Netgalley under the "read now" option. This was magnificent!! It's a shorter comic (about 49 pages) but has the most exquisite artwork that is vibrant and detailed. As we are nearing the Autumn season, this is the perfect choice due to it's magical, witchy vibes. I will certainly be recommending to my audience.

Devil on Her Shoulder by Script by Cédric Mayen is a unique new story. The artwork is engaging, with a ease of presentation that helps the reader flow between panels. The story itself takes a moment to get the hang of, as the world is fantastic and there's lots to acclimate to, but it's not overwhelming nor off-putting.

A quirky graphic novel, the build up to a new series.
When her aunt goes missing Norah goes sin search for her, with quite literally the devil on her back. It is a race against time before the Witches notice the Devil is within reach and the competing Devil's of Hell discover the throne is able to be overthrown.
The illustrations were bright and packed a punch, enhancing the dialogue and plot. Some great panel spreads with high detail to really bring the world to life.
Looking forward to where the story will go in the next book.

When her aunt disappears, Norah snaps into action. The difference between Norah and the average 17-year-old is that her aunt happens to be the Bruja, the most powerful witch alive. When attempting to summon answers, Norah ends up with the devil literally on her shoulder. Lucifer can't return to Hell without Norah, and she can't find the Bruja without him. The two have no choice to team up to try to set things right.

The artwork in this graphic novel was stunning and I really enjoyed that! I got a bit confused about the plot though and found it a bit hard to follow. I also had a bit of a hard time reading the font on my kobo, so if I decide to continue reading this series, I will probably try getting a physical copy. There was a pretty major cliffhanger ending so I'm really curious how that happened and how it'll be resolved. I didn't really understand the relationship between all the demons, so I would probably have to reread this volume to understand it better. Again, I loved the art though!

A curious and quirky read that starts slowly and then gets better and better as you become immersed in a demonic world. The artwork is dynamic and I love the obstreperousness of the characters. The fact that nice and evil demons co-exist amused me and I would definitely continue reading the series. Highly imaginative and great to have strong female protagonists.

I really liked this book. The art style is very appealing, and I would like to continue the story. It’s obviously the first in a series, as it ends rather suddenly, but I really enjoyed it and the world building that has been started.

This was a very quick and interesting read. The illustrations are marvellous! I liked the sidekick fox character, he was witty. I also liked how the story introduced the character of Devil and incorporated the overall concept of witches. My only qualm is that I felt that I missed out on some prequel (maybe i did) cause I wasn't able to understand some of the plot development.

Devil on Her Shoulder follows, Norah, a young witch who's aunt, The Bruja, has gone missing. Her house creatures have also happened to summon the Devil into the home, just as Norah arrives.

Although they disagree on the approach, they find a common ground that The Bruja missing and the Devil not being on this throne poses a great threat.
They set off to find answers, one way or another. Through their journey they find out there are more parts in play causing a greater issues than pervious expected.

All it all it's a fun, but thoughtful story that I felt held together well. There were a few odd pieces, which were lost in translations, but that happens.
I'd love to read more and would recommend if you're open to supernatural topics, witch craft, and humor.

This graphic novel landed in my hands at the perfect moment, just before the Halloween craze. The picturesque story has everything you'd need for Halloween - it has magic, witch, enemies, the evil one, and that one person who believes in restoring the order. And I am all for it!

When the Bruja goes missing, her niece Norah, witch-in-training with no broom driving licence, decides to come looking for her aunt. What Norah wasn't expecting was to meet the Devil himself instead! One of the Bruja's minions had summoned him by mistake, but the spell went wrong, and the Devil ended caught up between two worlds, incomplete in both. They need to team up in the search for the Bruja; she is the only one who can bring the order back to this world and reunite the Devil with the bottom half of his body that is waiting in Hell. A tricky task, if you ask me, knowing that Lucifer is not the most beloved person on Earth.

The cover caught my attention; I was hypnotised by it. What got me hooked to this world and story is the magic, the captivating title and gorgeous colours. The illustrations are well executed and so detailed; all the characters are whimsical and likeable. Norah's hair is something I'd kill for in real life.

Talking about the storyline, it is sharp, straight to the point, and fast-paced. However, there are a few points that would, in my opinion, require 3-4 panels more to complete the story (not cliff-hanger related). Nevertheless, this tiny observation does not take away much from this stunning introductory volume to Devil on Her Shoulder series; looking forward to the sequel!

This is one short graphic novel, but hot dang is it good!!!! To start, the art is just magnificent! Beautiful, vibrant colors are shown throughout, along with details that practically hold stories of their own. I could seriously have just looked at the pictures and I would still have given this five stars even if the story wasn’t very good.

But I’m glad to say I didn’t have that problem. The plot is great! I was pulled in by the art but stayed engaged with the story too. It starts as seemingly simple with a girl going in search of her missing aunt who happens to be a witch / bruja. But my goodness it is funny, and so creative!

Needless to say, I highly recommend this to graphic novel lovers. And really, if you’ve never read a graphic novel, start here cause this is a great one.

Thanks so much to NetGalley, Europe Comics, Cedric Mayen, and Sandra Cardinals for the opportunity to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion!!!!

Will be on my blog and Amazon shortly.

I liked the cute illustrations. They had a rather flowy quality to them. Story was a bit strange at first but then I got the hang of it. Overall a good comic for the spooky season.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the art style which is full of whimsy, and the colour palette especially is lovely. The script itself is very easy to read and follow and it's perfect for Halloween vibes, with interesting takes on Heaven and Hell, Demons, Lucifer, Witches etc. I especially liked the art panels showing the levels of Hell and the ways suffering is inflicted, they were whimsical and surpringsly quite funny.

Given this is basically an introduction, it does suffer from more info and less action than the next probably will, but I didn't mind that because the concept is great.

A brilliant introduction to a world of witches, demons, and treachery. This first installment does a good job of introducing you to the setting and lays the foundation for the story. There is a mystery afoot and I'd love to find out more!

With layers of details, the art style is enrapturing and gorgeous. I love all of the characters even though their motives are not immediately clear for some of them. Each character is layered and they stand out thanks to their personalities. My only regret is that I didn't get to read a physical copy of this.

Devil on Her Shoulder is the introductory volume in a new series of graphic novels that follows Norah, a young witch whose aunt, The Bruja, goes missing.

Overall, I really enjoyed the intricate art style and original premise.

Throughout the novel, Norah carries the shape-shifting devil on her journey. Both characters are interesting enough to keep you invested. The plot was also clear-cut and filled with humor and magic. I think the world-building could’ve been improved, as some of the supernatural elements were slightly confusing.

In the end, this was a cute read that’s perfect for the fall season!
