What a sweet board book! The illustrations are colorful and vibrant. I love the relationship and how it grows through the story, as does the baby! Perfect for cat owners with little ones of their own.
This was such a cute book about a cat that learns that there’s a baby in the house, and even though they look nothing alike they do stuff the same: eat, sleep, take a bath, etc. I really enjoyed this book—it was simple and easy to read, and the illustrations were beautiful and adorable. It reminded me of when my little brother and our cats, even though they grew up together (both my little brother and cats are 6-year-olds now) it felt similar to reading this: both curious about each other!
A cute story about a cat adapting to having a new baby in the house. I love how the cat talked to the baby as if it didn't know what it was. And even though they are different, they learn to love each other just the same.
Cat's First Baby is a humorous tale about a cat trying to figure out what exactly the new baby in the house IS. This very cute and funny tale will have very young children giggling!

Adorable will purchase.
Line “you don’t have a tail but seem to want one” was charming.
Ugh, this is so cute. The art is really great but simple enough to work for even the youngest 'readers,' and the language is very simple and effective. The overall messaging is sweet as heck too, and I can't wait to buy this for my cat-loving friends when they have kids.
This is a really sweet boardbook about a family cat accepting the new baby. It has beautiful paper cut-out style illustrations featuring a family with dark and mid skin tones.
I really loved Dog's First Baby, and was thrilled to see Cat's First Baby live up to my expectations. It is such a clever way to introduce being kind to our pets, babies, or to just connect to very young ones about their every day life. I love the way the books illustrate similarities and differences in accessible ways. The illustrations are also bright-colored and bold to capture the attention of babies and toddlers.
It's so cute and so easy to read. I can use the book in my English class for my French pupils. It's really cute and the story is lovely. I love it.
This adorable picture book is told from the perspective of the family pet cat. A new baby has arrived and the cat is curious. As the cat starts to recognize similarities between cats and babies/toddlers, the illustrations match the text and the audience begins to get in on the joke. Cats and babies are more alike than different, and there's enough love and room for all. This is a wonderful book to read with anyone who likes babies, pets, or is expecting a new baby. A charming and enjoyable board book that will do well in library collections or as a gift.
Cat’s First Kitten by Natalie Nelson is an adorable board book about a cat who meets his owner’s new baby for the first time. The cat is of course curious and it’s first inquiry is “Are you ca cat?” The cat determines that the baby doesn’t look, smell, or sound like a cat; however, they both enjoy naps, staying up all night, snacks, baths, climbing, and playing. Therefore, the cat decides that it does like the baby, even if the baby hugs a little too tight.
These illustrations are absolutely precious. Little ones are sure to enjoy looking at the pictures while being read to and the reader will enjoy the subtle humor. There is also a companion book available titled Dog’s First Baby.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was cute. I loved the bright colors and simple style. The story was very simple but engaging. Love that it's told from the cat's point of view.
I love that this is from the cat's perspective and he wonders if the new baby is a cat. I think this is a great first book for kids.
I enjoyed reading this cute picture book. I like the idea that presenting and introducing the human and pet relationship from the cat's perspective.
A perfect early picture book. Great illustrations. Short and easy text. Love the color scheme and the cat's expressions are spot on.
There are plenty of books out there about introducing a child to a new pet, but what about the adjustment that happens when a pet was there first? CAT'S FIRST BABY is a sweet little board book for situations just like that. Cat isn't sure what kind of creature mom and dad just brought into her home, but she knows that it isn't a cat! She's curious about this wiggly new being, and after awhile, she sees that they actually have quite a bit in common — both of them like to play, enjoy naps, and even take baths. The illustrations in the book are just beautiful, and the layout is simple, colorful, and easy to read. This book includes some slightly elevated language like "spectacular" and "apologize" which is good to help build up a child's vocabulary with words they might not hear otherwise. I would certainly purchase a copy of this book for my library's collection and would encourage other librarians to do the same. Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy of CAT'S FIRST BABY!
I received an electronic ARC from Quirk Books through NetGalley.
Delightful book told from the cat's perspective. A new baby comes home and cat tries to make sense of this new being. In some ways, they are the same but this new person is definitely not a cat. Simple and humorous text along with brightly colored illustrations will delight babies and toddlers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read and review an Advanced Reader Copy of this title.
Cat's First Baby by Natalie Nelson is written from the cat's perspective when a new baby arrives. Cat doesn't have experience with babies, so it takes a little time to figure out what the baby is. Although the cat and the baby are different in many ways and have conflicts at times, they also have a lot in common and learn how to live with each other.
The simple text and illustrations in this book are perfect for parents to share with babies and toddlers. The colors are bright and bold without being overwhelming or overstimulating. The illustrations are simple, but also interesting and engaging. The book is a good length as to keep the attention of very young readers. I would recommend this book for parents of very young children, especially those that have a pet, as well as public libraries and daycares.

Cute little picture book about the similarities between a cat and a newborn baby told through that cat's POV. This probably wouldn't be a family storytime choice for me since it's line are fairly basic, but it could be a fun one for parents at babytime. There is one depiction of the baby's eyes that seems like a caricature but overall the book is cute and well designed.
A super cute board book for new babies and cat lovers alike. Definitely a great gift for anyone worried about adding a baby to their fur family
