My thanks to HarperCollins U.K. for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Impossible’ by Sarah Lotz in exchange for an honest review.
While ‘Impossible’ starts off fairly conventionally as one might expect from a romantic comedy-drama, it soon proved how well that title suits it. Seriously, I would advise that this novel is best read without prior information about its plot for maximum enjoyment.
‘Impossible’ is partially an epistolary novel using emails between its protagonists, Nick and Bee. The chapters alternate between their perspectives. It is divided into seven parts, six of these I recognised as referencing iconic romantic film comedies. I was quickly drawn in and absolutely delighted by it from start to finish.
I feel that ‘Impossible’ deserves heaps of praise for its innovative plot as well as for relatable, quirky characters. It is witty and heartwarming. One of my favourites of 2022.
This was my first experience of Sarah Lotz’s writing though I will definitely be looking into her previous work and keeping an eye out for her future projects.
It is one that I plan on suggesting as a future reading group selection and have purchased my own copy.
Very highly recommended.

As a general rule, romantic fiction doesn't really do it for me. Especially if it's formulaic and predictable from the off. But this. THIS!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Impossible is the story of Nick and Bee. It starts off with Nick sending a pretty angry and sweary email to someone who owes him money. But, he accidentally sends it to Bee. An email exchange begins. And now maybe you think you know where it's going. But I can promise you. You really don't!
Be ready to fall in love Nick and Bee. They're an amazing pair of protagonists who I absolutely adored 😍
There's really not much more I can say about this book without ruining the experience of this book. It's best read with as little prior knowledge about it as possible.

Every now and then you read a book that is completely different: we seem to get so many books that follow the same formulaic structure but this was so unique. I do not want to give any spoilers but will say there is a real twist, its very current, with relatable characters, I laughed out loud, I wept a few tears and I am still thinking about it a few days after I finished it which in my eyes is a sign of a great book. I will be recommending this to all my friends for their holiday read

I loved this tale of two kindred spirits who seem perfect for each other, if only they could actually get together.
The story starts with dressmaker Bee mistakenly receiving an irate and abusive email from someone demanding payment for work they've done. She sends a suitably curt response and, once the misunderstanding has been ironed out, a sparky, witty and empathetic relationship develops between the two correspondents. The sender of the original misplaced email was Nick, a struggling writer who, like Bee, feels there is something missing in his life, and the two go on to realise that they are so like-minded and in tune with one another that the most natural thing to do would be to meet up, and see if the same sparks fly when they're face to face. They arrange to meet under the clock at Euston; however when they get there they can't find each other despite emails flying back and forth describing what they look like and exactly where they're standing.
I can't go any further without revealing the central premise of the book; you really need to discover it for yourself - believe me you won't regret it! Bee and Nick are two very engaging, likeable and witty central characters, and they are supported by a cast of quirky and loveable eccentrics. The dialogue is witty and acutely observed and in less skilled hands, the 'twist' in this tale might have seemed too far fetched and ridiculous, but I bought it completely and was rooting for these star-crossed lovers to find happiness in whatever form fate willed for them. I think this book is going to be one of those word of mouth hits that people recommend to their friends, I certainly am.

This was such a unique and intriguing story and take on a traditional romance/love story.
I can't say too much without spoiling it but this is a romance with a difference, in more ways than one.
It is really well written and I love how richly the characters have been created.
I was completely hooked and loved our two main characters, as well as how believable each of the characters is in this.
It is, perhaps too long, which is why it didn't get 5 stars from me.
But it is definitely well worth reading.
This is the first book that I have read from this author but it certainly won't be my last. I can't wait to see what she does next.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A real page turner. The characters were well written and likeable. The story develops when Nick accidentally sends a very angry email to Bee who is not the intended recipient not realising it will change the course of his life.
A unique and gripping love story that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page! There are some hard hitting issues but I felt these were sensitively done.
An excellent read, my first from this author but definitely not my last.
Thank you to HarperCollins and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read by Abigail Mann. Excellent writing and storyline with relateable characters.

I’m struggling to put into words just how truly wonderful this book is – without any doubt this is one of my top 10 books of 2022 and quite possibly will be of my favourite books of all time (Yes I said it)!
Firstly the fact that I was more than ugly crying (full on sobbing) by the end means it is an instant 5 stars, but this story is so much more than just about making you cry.
This is a story shrouded in mystery, the mystery being I cannot tell you much about the plot because everyone needs to go into this without knowing a damn thing because only then will you fully appreciate the absolute mind blowing twist which happens very early on in the book.
You’d think with a twist that epic being revealed early on that it would ruin the book, but it doesn’t. The twist is needed early to then fully help explore both Nick & Bee and just how they go about navigating this strange new relationship. (That’s all I’m saying on the matter.)
Speaking of Nick and Bee, they are two of the best characters I’ve ever read about. Every credit to the author who managed to create two brilliant individuals that you will instantly adore, this is definitely helped with the fantastic email exchanges between them both which felt so authentic and I think that’s why it was so easy to fall in love with both of them.
I could quite easily talk about this book forever. When I wasn’t reading it I found I was thinking about Nick & Bee and couldn’t wait to jump back in and now that I’ve finished it I want nothing more than to read it again – I miss them basically!
Overall this was one of the most unique love stories I have ever read, one that was impossible to put down and one that will be impossible to forget – a stunning masterpiece from Sarah Lotz!

Bee and Nick are destined never to meet but fate has other ideas. A mistaken contact starts a nothing to lose communication between them. Neither of them have had happy pasts but can they change the course of their lives and find happiness? Impossible means I'm possible.

I loved this so much, a great fun concept that worked really well. I liked the fact that the characters were imperfect, they were selfish and on occasion cruel in their single-minded pursuit of love. It was only that you find yourself rooting for them that makes it forgivable.
I'm so glad that I picked up the proof on impulse and didn't read anything about this at all before I started. It made all of the developments more interesting as I didn't have any preconceptions.

3.5 stars
After finishing this book I had to stop and collect my thoughts about how I felt.
For me, this is a book of two halves.
The first half I really enjoyed, I loved the characters and felt that the connection between them came across really well and was enjoying their banter. I was in invested in them and the story and was really enjoying it.
The second half of the book I struggled to enjoy as much.
My main problems were that this book is WAY too long and by about 70% of the way in I was getting more and more confused about the plot and who everyone was.
By then end I had lost all my investment in the characters and was starting to find their witty banter irritating.
Whilst this is most definitely a unique, intriguing book that made me think; as it developed it just lost something for me.

Oh my goodness what a wonderful book. Bee and Nick begin communicating after Nick accidentally emails her instead of someone else... They soon strike up an online friendship of sorts but eventually discover that there is no way they can be together. It would spoil the very clever plot if I were to explain why, but suffice to say this is one of the best books I have read in ages. Such a brilliant premise for a book and I adored the characters. I feel bereft now that it's over! Very highly recommended to anyone who enjoys contemporary fiction.
Huge grateful thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK and Sarah Lotz for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

I fell in love with Impossible (also published as Impossible Us) by Sarah Lotz a sublime romance with a fantastical twist.
When Nick sends an angry email to a late-paying client that is erroneously delivered to Bee’s inbox, her witty response and his sincere apology leads to daily exchanges, that quickly shift in tone from cautious and friendly to candid and flirty. Meeting in person is the obvious next step, but though they both claim to be waiting under the clock at Euston Station they can’t seem to find one another. While Bee assumes that her best friend, Leila, is right and she’s been had, Nick realises that something strange is happening…something impossible.
Unfolding through the email exchanges and first person narratives of Nick and Bee, Impossible offers a heartfelt romance thwarted by rules of physics. I don’t want to attempt a clumsy explanation of how this happens because you deserve to be drawn into their unconventional love story, and convinced by Lotz that the impossible is possible.
This is a book that appeals directly to the romantic at heart with numerous direct and oblique references to film and literary classics such as The Lake House, You’ve Got Mail, Sliding Doors, Rebecca, and Strangers on a Train, with a little David Bowie thrown in as a bonus, but nevertheless the plot feels creative and fresh. More serious issues are touched on too though including infidelity, suicide, domestic violence, and environmental harm.
I was entertained by the witty banter between Bee and Nick, and Lotz develops their chemistry with ease. Both protagonists are older than you might expect, Bee, a fashion designer with her own small business repurposing wedding gowns, is in her early to mid thirties, while Nick, a largely unsuccessful author, is forty-five. Credibly portrayed with a mix of strengths and flaws, they are appealing characters that I found easy to invest in.
Though quite different in tone and theme to her last book, Missing Persons, Lotz’s flair for original storytelling, dynamic characterisation, and expressive writing remains compelling.
Witty, poignant, surprising and absorbing, I recommend you embrace the Impossible.

This is quite a unique story line and highly addictive. I particularly liked Nicks character and the twists and turns his life took. The story of Nick and Bee, while stretching all credibility at times, is nevertheless interesting and intriguing. It keeps you absolutely hooked to the very end. Top marks for an original storyline.

Impossible is a very different book and a story that I was not expecting. In all honesty I almost did not finish it after the first few chapters as the whole concept seemed so completely unbelievable that I wasn’t sure that I would be able to enjoy it. However I am so glad that I did as I came to really love the characters of Bee/Becca and Nick/Nicholas and their exchanges.
The story is really original and well written. The characters are engaging and the story is told both in email exchanges and by the main characters. It is definitely a complex story but so worth preserving with as I was completely hooked and couldn’t wait to find out what would happen. I was pleased with the ending, but maybe hoped for a couple more chapters just to see what happened next.
I won’t give the plot away as it will spoil it for others but if you pick this up then you will definitely enjoy it. Persevere through the initial disbelief and you will find a book that is completely different and very enjoyable.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a beautiful read- Bee and Nick fall in love after an email goes astray, yet things aren’t quite what they seem. I don’t want to give anything away but this is a romance with a difference.

'Impossible' by Sarah Lotz is the most original romantic comedies I have read in a long time. I write this review as I have just arrived home from a business trip which took me through Euston station twice today, the synergy of this not lost on me as I thought of Nick and Bee waiting there to meet up at the beginning of the novel. They are brought together by a misdirected angry email, but little do they know that they literally can never be together. I won't spoil why (though, it is a fairly obvious twist!).
The twist on the traditional romance is a lot of fun and leads to a huge doubled cast of characters. Lotz spends time developing our central couple but also puts work into the nuanced experiences of the side characters. I enjoyed being immersed in Nick and Bee's lives, especially when they start meddling with... things. Wow, this is hard to describe without spoiling anything! You just need to go and read this to see for yourself.
Overall, this was a cool idea and I enjoyed reading it. I was gripped until the end as it does not quite play out as your expect it to... 4 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It’s almost impossible to review this book without giving away the major plot twist at the heart…. But I will resist for the sake of spoilers! I’m glad I didn’t know in advance put it that way.
This was a great read. Bee and Nick meet online totally by chance when an email meant for someone else drops into her inbox. And so an online love affair begins. Both are scarred from previous relationships. Nick, in his forties and newly single and Beth going on unsuitable Tinder dates after the breakup of a long term relationship. So they are naturally cautious at committing again. Besides Nick lives in Leeds and Bee in London.
But when it becomes clear that they really might belong together they arrange to finally meet in person… however it is destined not to happen… and then the adventure really begins. Will true love prevail?

I found this book almost impossible (hah) to review initially. On the face of it, this one seems like your typical girl-meets-boy story but – of course, even by title alone – you get an inkling there’s more to this story than meets the eye.
Nick and Bee feel like characters we’ve all encountered before, each chasing love and each problematic in their own ways, but Lotz somehow keeps them interesting and unique throughout – I wasn’t sure about Nick at first but I did warm to him, as a hopeless wannabe writer myself!
I won’t spoil too much but this is not your typical romance. There are twists and turns throughout so if you’re looking for a different romance to read this month, Impossible might just be it.

Wow! It may only be March, but I already know this will be one of my books of the year. It is absolutely incredible and I am going to be thinking about that final sentence for a long time to come! It was so perfect!
I loved how this story was told from the alternate chapter perspectives of Bee and Nick whose paths crossed after Bee receives an email sent by Nick for which she was definitely not the intended recipient. Thank goodness this happened though and she replied, because their connection was instant and electric. As their communication increased they felt like they had known each other all of their lives! As Bee and Nick are both stood waiting underneath the clock in Euston station, they message each other to say they can’t see the other. It soon becomes clear that this love story is going to be anything but traditional. Because neither is lying! Their situation is simply impossible...
I loved seeing Bee and Nick try and comprehend their unique situation and seeing the ways in which their respective lives differed. Their email exchanges were interspersed throughout and these always made me smile too. I loved seeing the way this story developed and the information Bee and Nick uncovered and shared with each other. It is so hard to write about this book as the synopsis doesn’t hint at the explanation as to why Bee and Nick’s situation is so impossible and out of the ordinary. There are so many clever details throughout though and I never once wanted to put this book down! I was so invested in this love story and my heart went out to them both for so many reasons as I was reading.
I honestly cannot recommend this book enough and even though I cannot say anymore about the plot, it is absolutely incredible! It’s a story I am going to be thinking about for a very long time to come!
