The version I read of this book was called 'Impossible,' but I am guessing the content is the same. Soooo, what did I think of it?
Well, it was great to read an original story - there are probably loads out there that are similar, but this was original based on my own reading experience to date.
Bee and Nick 'meet' online via an email that goes astray. They strike up correspondence, and quickly begin to realise that they have 'clicked' and would like to meet in person to establish whether it is viable to take their relationship to the next level. A date and place is agreed for their meeting for which they independently prepare with care and enthusiasm. However, it's not meant to be! Both arrive, but cannot find each other, although they are still able to correspond online! Gradually, it begins to dawn on them that there is something very strange happening: they are both operating on parallel planes which somehow, via email, they have managed to cross!
'The Impossible Us' was very promising initially. It certainly grabbed my attention. However, it is a complicated story following the same group of people with the same names, but in two similar, but separate worlds. Not only that, but out of necessity, in order to cover both sides of this parallel universe, the story also switched narrators between worlds.
I must admit that I did struggle to keep tabs on what was happening with who, and felt that the whole story dragged on just a little longer than was interesting. I would be interested however to read more by Sarah Lotz in the future.
I did read to the end and give this book three stars.

Fun, high fantasy love story. I read it without knowing the twist and gasped when I realised. Very cleverly done. And nicely sewn up at the end.

Book 9 of 2022

Wow! I have just finished reading 'Impossible' by @lotzwriting and I am still in shock. This book is so unlike ANY I've read before and I'm sure it will be one of my firm favourites of 2022. Thank you to @NetGalley, @lotzwriting and the publisher @harperfiction for the advance e-copy in exchange for my opinion.

This is a love story between the two main characters who communicate through the medium of emails/ imails. In the synopsis we are introduced to these memorable characters:

Nick: Failed writer. Failed husband. Dog owner.
Bee: Serial dater. Dress maker. Pringles enthusiast.

Nick, editing a book for an accomplished writer, sends him an email asking for overdue payment to be made. The email doesn't reach him and lands in the in-box of Bee. They exchange hundreds of messages and know pretty much instantly that there is a spark and that they should meet. So off they both go to meet under the clock at Euston station. But, despite them both arriving at the right spot, they can't see each other.

Without revealing anything and potentially spoiling the story, I will say no more 🤐 as it really is best to go in blind to the concept of the book as I did. It was beautiful writing and Lotz really has created such realistic, flawed and interesting characters. It would be impossible not to be totally entranced by this book and the fascinating storyline connecting Nick and Bee. Get it on your pre-order list for March.

I first heard about this book on a Facebook group, where one of the admins said 'it's the most clever thing I've read in years and I can't stop thinking about it'.
I can definitely agree with the clever comment, and it has stayed with me after finishing it about a week ago so they were right on both counts.
The characters of Nick and Bee are just wonderful. I laughed, I felt their pain, and pangs of shock went through me towards the end. The chemistry between them oozed out of the pages amd I loved them.
I'll try and write about the plot without giving any spoilers, which could be a challenge. Nick and Bee connect because of an email Nick sends to Bee in error, and what transpires takes a lot for the reader to get their head around. The premise is extraordinary and nothing short of fascinating, and perhaps, fanstastical. It is certainly high-concept, but Lotz cleverly weaves the plot so as to keep the reader within reach. I did slightly lose track at the end though so I can't give the full 5 stars.

I enjoyed this book. Different type of story to the usual type I read. Thanks for the opportunity to read & review this book.

A really unusual book that will be NOTHING like you expect and probably nothing like anything you have read before. I wasn't entirely sure for the first chunk - it seemed like it would be a predictable love story. but NO. I don't want to give any spoilers so I will just say WOW!.
I am going to be recommending this to everyone and I am going to make them ring me when the penny drops, just so I can be excited all over again with the cleverness and quirkiness of this lovely book.
I won't say anymore except READ IT!

Its a completely unpredictable and emotional rollercoaster of a book that charts the relationship between Bee and Nick. I found myself laughing and crying in equal measure and I finished the book in super quick time. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it, and when I was reading it I was praying it wouldn't finish. It's fresh, unpredictable and so well written. The characters are full of depth and vibrancy and I challenge anyone not to love it!

IMPOSSIBLE
Exactly the right title for this book. Still thinking about that ending. An emotionally-charged page turner with all the elements of a huge best-seller. So pleased I got to read it.

A high-concept love story with echoes of Life on Mars and Quantum Leap. Impossible follows the story of Nick and Bee's love story that cannot be. Both amusing and touching, this made me consider what really matters in life.

I’ve heard good things about Impossible by Sarah Lotz, whose books I’ve not read. I believe this her foray into the contemporary romance genre. Here Lotz weaves a love story that is high concept and unputdownable. This lived up to the hype for me. I was utterly engrossed. I raced through this on my commute back to work and before bedtime time. What a charming novel!
This follows two characters. Rebecca, in her 30s with her own business designing bespoke wedding dresses; single and currently swiping on apps to meet the one. Nick, mid-40s, a failed novelist, currently ghostwriting other people’s work; husband to Polls and stepfather to Dylan. One day Nick writes an angry email, which ends up in Rebecca’s inbox. She replies. And the two find themselves writing to each other ala You’ve-Got-Mail style. Nick’s wife leaves him, and it’s not soon after that Nick and Rebecca find themselves falling for each other. They decide to meet. They’re both at Euston station. At the exact same time. Yet they can’t see each other...
This is a high-concept read. I guessed the twist. I think with the new spider-man movie exploring multi-verses, it’s easy to guess that Nick and Rebecca are in different multi-verses. I was intrigued to see where the novel would go, and Lotz manages to pull it out of the bag. This was a compelling read. I did wish though that the ending was tighter; I personally found it a bit ambiguous which isn’t my taste. In genre books I want things to be more tied up. Nonetheless this was a refreshingly original take on the contemporary romance genre. 5/5.

This book was really cool but really weird. Not bad weird, just … odd weird. I really enjoyed it but the endless email addresses took up so much space that the eye naturally flicks past these and then it’s hard not to keep skipping. This book is definitely going to be big and the twist was ace but maybe the characters needed to be more likeable in order for this to be a really memorable work of fiction. I’m really struggling to put my finger on why I didn’t love it as much as I thought I was going to. Even so… 4 stars.

What to say about this novel? I loved it! I'm not normally one for 'romance' but this title piqued my interest when I saw a fellow reviewer rave about it on Twitter, and I was lucky enough to be given an eARC to read. Not going to lie, this book is almost IMPOSSIBLE to review without spoilers so all I'll say is that this is twisty, it's not what you expect. It's so well written, I couldn't put it down. Truly, I think this is going to be a hugely popular release in 2022. I can't say more. Just what I needed right now.

Having recently been reading a lot of paperbacks I was building up a collection of ebooks to read so I’ll be honest and say when I started this I didn’t remember the blurb so I was in for a hell of a shock at the first twist in this story. I was sucked in straight away by the humour and banter between our two main characters Nick & Bee. They bounce so well off of each other and the dialogue is very funny & real. It seems really throwaway to suggest this book has lots of twists and turns - but honestly I didn’t see these things coming. I’ve never read anything quite like it. There are a lot of background characters in this story - and the author does a great job of creating these people and filling us in on a lot of their quirks which really bring them to life, as opposed to them being ‘fillers’. If you enjoy contemporary fiction this is definitely worth a read. I stayed up until 2am to find out what happened.

Honestly? It would be fucking impossible not to love this book.

I’ve read Sarah Lotz previously and I’ve always been intrigued by her taste for the totally bizarre. I can’t explain her specialty without spoilering the book, but this is a love story like no other.

Fast-paced, heartbreaking and at times, absolutely hilarious, Impossible is a romantic comedy with a serious edge and a twist you absolutely never saw coming… several in fact.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! 5/5 stars, and I will recommend it to everyone. Nick and Bee were wonderful characters, the premise was fascinating, and the way everything tied together was brilliant. Highly recommended.

This was a genius of a book! What starts off as an email being sent to the wrong recipient moves into a romantic email exchange between Nick and Bee. However, the twist in the book a few chapters in is something else! A very original book that shouldn't work but it does! A superb read!

Well its fair to say that I was not expecting what happened in this AT ALL. Clever, twisty, surprising.
Loved the email exchanges and this kicks off absolutely brilliantly which absorbed me from the very first sentence.
Great relationships, good characters.

Whilst this is engaging and well written I did struggle to fully engage with it, partly found the endless emails a bit annoying and partly was confused by the twist that I shan’t reveal. I think it was a simple case of wrong person for the book but I can definitely see the appeal for a different audience.

This is a stunning book with so many twists, turns and dimensions that the author has written impeccably and really thought through. Bee and Nick get to know each other through fate, an email accidentally sent to a wrong address which sparks a conversation between them and a friendship with a hint of more however when they gamble on moving from online acquaintances to meeting in person things take an impossible turn. This is not your typical will they, won’t they but more of a case of can they, can’t they? This is a mind boggling story which is held together by the amazing characters of Bee and Nick and it had me intrigued, aghast, questioning their morals and yet totally understanding their actions all at the same time. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where I’m not sure if I want them to get together or not but this has so many questions and no straight answers, this is definitely not your typical love story.

When Bee receives a ranting email that obviously isn't meant for her she takes the time to reply to the sender, Nick, to let him know he's made a mistake. Bee and Nick then start to converse online and they have an instant rapport. As the conversations continue it's obvious that they are developing feelings for each friends. Rosie and Sausage the dogs steal the show though.
other and finally agree to meet. Bee lives in London, Nick in Leeds, so they agree to meet under the clock at Euston Station ........ and that is where the problems begin.

I really enjoyed this story, although it is a romance it was different enough to grab my attention. Classifying it as romance really doesn't do the story justice and it's impossible to say more than that without giving too much away.

The characters of Bee and Nick are well developed. What really appealed to me about the characters is that they aren't young, attractive singletons bouncing from one failed relationship to another. Nick is mid-forties, a failed writer,
