This is such a great book for enabling children to cook independently, with adult supervision and help if needed. As a nanny I have always had my charges help with cooking and baking. This book is an ideal resource with excellent instructions and photos throughout.

Pretty good cookbook for kids looking to get into the kitchen but still learning the basics. Most of the recipes in the book are fairly simple and have lots of pictures for kids to use to help see what they are supposed to be doing. That said, I’m spite of its kid friendly nature, this book also contains a lot of recipes that adults will enjoy eating. There are simple recipes like grilled cheese sandwiches, but there are also things like beef empanadas, spring rolls, Greek salad, fish tacos, and much more.

As far as kids cookbooks go, this one is a good choice!

Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for an online copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kids Cook Dinner: 25 Healthy, Budget-Friendly Meals from the Best-Selling Cooking Class Series by Deanna F. Cook is currently scheduled for release on May 24 2022. This book is a selection of 25 easy, budget-friendly dinner recipes that teaches kids how to make healthy meals with step-by-step photos. The recipes feature a range of kid favorites, including Popcorn Chicken, Easy Cheesy Quesadillas, Pasta with Tomatoes & Fresh Mozzarella, Black Beans & Rice, Pizza, Meatballs with Creamy Sauce, Super Sliders, and Supper Salad have been specially selected for their budget-friendliness (averaging $2 a serving) and use of easy-to-find pantry staples, as well as their nutritional value. With instructions on basic cooking skills, like chopping vegetables and stir frying, grocery shopping, and kitchen safety, Kids Cook Dinner offers aspiring chefs ages 8 to 12 everything they need to know to successfully--and proudly-- put a healthy, homecooked meal on the table that the whole family will love.

Kids Cook Dinner is a great cookbook for families that want to cook together, and children that want to take a more active role in the kitchen. I thought the skills and information shared in the beginning of the book, and the safety reminders, are very important and well done. I thought the recipes were varied enough that there should be something for every young chef, even those picky eaters. The book offers readers exactly what the title promises, and I think it would be a valuable resource for young readers and their families.

My three children really enjoyed trying out the recipes in this book.

We have a small budget, so it was great that we didn't have to go and buy expensive spices and other ingredients. It also seemed much healthier and cheaper than buying pre-prepared items..

We especially liked the quesadillas, the curry, the meatballs and the burgers (sliders). It was also great to learn an effective way to cut avocado.

The instructions were well laid out and the book was illustrated with vibrant photographs.

I will definitely recommend this to other mums, as it is a valuable resource for encouraging children to cook independently and try new meals.

This is a cute book that has accessible recipes for kids! These recipes are well-written and include a list of cooking techniques up front, including various ways to cook eggs. I really appreciated the explained differences between chopping, dicing, and mincing. Four stars; list of recipes included on my blog post.

My 16 year old (ASD) made a meal for our family out of this cookbook. She prepared the pasta with tomatoes, basil, and fresh mozzarella; corn and black bean salad; and popcorn chicken. Because there are photos of every step she did everything without help except cooking the chicken because the oil made her nervous. I would recommend this book for children 7-14 or older if they have ASD like my daughter. I plan on buying a finished copy when it becomes available.

Thank you NetGalley, Deanna F. Cook and Storey Publishing for the copy of Kids Cook Dinner. This is my personal review.
What a great book! From first page to the last this book will make any kid want to make dinner for the family.
The recipes are easy to make, budget friendly and the step-by-step photos make it perfect for a beginning cook. Along with the easy-to-follow recipe the author has given information on food and cost of making a dish.
I think this book will be perfect for any parent who home schools their children.
This book is just the perfect gift for a beginning chef. The ease of picking what they want to make and to be able to follow the recipe from start to finish will make them proud of the meal they make for the family.
I can see this cookbook on the shelves in many homes.

Kids Cook Dinner is perfect for those apt children who love helping in the kitchen and have their minds set on making dinner ALL BY THEMSELVES!

My own Little has been helping us in the kitchen for years and is always thinking up new meals she can make for us and asking to cook alone. We've browsed so many children's cookbooks and have tried so many recipes but nearly all of them require the help of a parent.
Kids Cook Dinner not only shares twenty-five easy-to-make, budget-friendly meals, but it starts out teaching and showing kids everything they need to know about getting started, kitchen safety, food safety, how to budget for and buy groceries at the best price, how to build a nutritional meal, and more so that they can confidently create a meal for themselves or their family.

This cookbook includes a fantastic array of recipes for delicious snacks and meals that are loved by many. Photographs paired with step-by-step instructions help kids successfully maneuver cooking on their own.
The 'Think Spring Rolls' are perfect for this time of year but our favorite from this book (and the Cooking Class series altogether) is the beef empanadas! Sooo good!

I personally loved how much great "adulting" information there is in this book! If you want your children to grow up well-rounded and independent enough to safely cook for themselves and others, this is the perfect addition to your household library!

What a perfect cookbook for 8-12 year olds, or even younger with some assistance.

I found it to be well planned out ~ from the lessons, to the safety tips, to the well written recipes with pictures, to the money saving tips.

Lessons ~ some kids might not understand all the leg work that goes into preparing their meals each day. The author gives excellent insight by including kitchen rules, prep work and various cooking skills.

Safety ~ this was an important lesson, especially since this book might be used by kids that are just learning or for those that need to brush up on their skills.

Recipes ~ with 25 options, there was a nice variety for any member in your household, even picky eaters. The recipes were easy to follow and the pictures were a big help to ensure every step was completed properly.

Money saving tips ~ as someone who is thrifty and has an accounting degree, I really liked this lesson. It never hurts to find ways to save money in this day and age and it’s never too early to learn about them.

My daughter made us Popcorn Chicken for dinner last night all by herself. She found the recipe easy to follow and it tasted excellent! The texture of the chicken was perfect!

I definitely recommend this well written cookbook for aspiring young chefs to learn the ins and outs of what it takes to prepare a meal for a family.

4 Stars for Kids Cook Dinner

3.5 stars
I love that this book covers topics like grocery shopping and nutrition labels - this is something I haven't seen in other kids cookbooks. There are approximately 25 healthy main recipes, with cooking skills and accompaniments also covered on some. Some of the recipes did seem to be more side dishes than entrees. The steps for the recipes are shown in full color photos so they are easy to follow.
I love the concept and presentation, I just wish the book was longer. In instances where there wasn't a side to go along with the item, some suggestions would have been helpful. The book is also missing nutritional and special diet info.

This book provides many recipes that encourage kids to engage with cooking at home. The book starts with important sections on kitchen safety and terminology. The recipes seem to be ones that would appeal to kids and enable them to begin food preparation with the help of adults, then gradually on their own. The selections also encompass foods from different cultures. Photos of kids cooking and of the food being prepared add relevance to the book. Recommended for parents and kids who want to start cooking together, suggest parents read through it first along with kids and let them help choose the recipes to try. Older kids can probably try some of the more difficult recipes on their own. The book is appropriate for elementary school aged kids, probably ages 5-12.

I received this book from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

This book seems great. I have not yet tried any of the recipes, nor has my resident kid, but we have identified a few that he is "maybe" willing to try. I'm hopeful! Mother's and Father's Days are right around the corner. Perhaps we can use the holidays as dates to try the sliders or the beans and rice. The recipes are written simply and illustrated thoroughly with excellent photography. It should be a surefire win and an occasional night off from cooking for the adults.

This kids cookbook is incredible. It really takes everything and breaks it down in a way to help kids thrive. I will be buying copies of this for the families I nanny for and using it with the kids to make family dinners.

This cookbook is the perfect gift for that 9-13 year old who has fallen in love with GBBO or any other cooking reality show.

This book is teeming with pictures:
1) Kids are the ones in the pictures making the recipes!
2) There are pictures of the different steps, not just the final playing!
3) The plethora of pictures tells young cooks that they CAN cook this!

There is a good variety of familiar recipes (popcorn chicken, ham and cheese-French toast) and recipes that may not be as familiar. This gives them the opportunity to be successful with their “usual” fare before inspiring an “itch” to try one of the other recipes. Great use of understanding kids’ brains and how that fits into them being successful as a chef!

Excellent cookbook for kids! So many unexpected recipes that look delicious! The basics (taken up a few notches) along with some variety of different culture cuisines. Might not appeal to the picky eater but I'm especially looking forward to homemade Ramen soup!

This is a wonderful cookbook for young chefs! My boys loved the recipes and how clearly everything was laid out and organized. I loved how many flavors and cultures were introduced through the recipes. I highly recommend this cookbook to all adult/child chef partners and solo chefs ages 8 and up.

I just reviewed Kids Cook Dinner by Deanna F. Cook. #KidsCookDinner

This is a great cookbook! It has lots of easy recipes that are generally a bit more exciting and yummy than what I've seen in a lot of other books for kids. There's some Mexican, Indian, and Thai influences, among others, and the book does a clear step-by-step guide for each meal. I also found the introductory chapters on food prep, handling, measuring, etc. useful, and with its bright colours and easy to read text, we were able to go through the usually somewhat "boring" pre-cooking aspects no problem. We've tried out a couple of recipes so far - the cheesy bean quesadillas, and the Ramen noodles - and both have been a big hit. Can't wait to try out more of these delicious recipes.
