A wonderful cookbook for kids wanting to learn cooking skills and be able to cook a recipe. The book starts off with kitchen rules. There are a total of sixteen rules given. Most of the recipes in the book require prep work before you make the dish. It shows you how to do prep work by explaining how to chop and dice, mince, juice plus more. There is an explanation of terms used in recipes. There is an explanation on why it’s important to measure the ingredients carefully. Kitchen safety is discussed. There is a chart that converts recipe measurements. I was surprised to find that there were money saving tips for grocery shopping (how nice). Calculate the price of your recipe you’re making beside explaining how to make a healthy balanced meal. There is also a description of what a nutrition label tells you, then comes the recipes! I think that having an adult assist you the first few times you make a recipe, you might want an adult to help just in case you don’t understand the recipe or using the stove or oven for the first tim.e.
The book is clearly written and the illustrations are great. Since this book is geared for kids as young as 8 years old, I thought all the information that was given may be a bit much to remember everything. The recipes are great. The recipes are healthy — you won’t learn to make junk food. While this cookbook is geared for kids, I suspect some moms wouldn’t mind making the recipes too.
This was a great cookbook and I really enjoyed reading through the recipes. I definitely found some that I will be making.
Great book!
That's exactly how I learnt at the time. The recipes are realistic for chidlren to make, they learn all the basics and the recipes are short and easy to understand.
There are some brilliant dinner recipes and I wish it also included breakfast and other recipes because it's really ideal for children.
The recipes listed here are pretty much the standard fare for cooking with kids. It speaks directly to kids, explaining the basics of making everything from vinaigrette to quesadillas, and also includes sidebars on interpreting nutritional info from packaging. Additionally, it discusses the basic terminology of cooking, and how to complete certain tasks (stirring, whisking, etc.). One nice thing is it shows a couple of different ways to complete a task, like one way using the stovetop and a second way using the microwave.
It also, somewhat oddly to my mind, delves into money saving measures, which I'm not sure is aimed at the ostensible kid chefs or their adult overseers who don't already know. Perhaps it's intended as a lifeskills moment. If costs are a concern though, it's also a bit odd that it instructs the use of certain kitchen implements that not everyone has (garlic press, juicer, salad spinner).
The photos are colorful and take the reader through most of the steps of a recipe, which is helpful for new cooks. It can get repetitive though. There are some pictures that are meant to be decorative, but they are not representational, and they're just odd. It might be a formatting issue for the digital version as viewed on my device?
An effort has been made to present food from a variety of cultures, but is also kid friendly.
Overall, a nice book for kids, but not breaking any new ground.
I love this children’s cookbook. I don’t think I will be making anything from it but I felt the recipes are easy enough that my teenagers could make them without my assistance. That is always a plus. Hope to see more books like this in the future.
Kids Cook Dinner is a fabulous book for kids to start on the adventure of cooking. The first part offers some cooking techniques, also safety in the kitchen and there are some tips for saving money when you go shopping groceries and help you to understand the nutritional label of the products. I really like the recipes and the instructions are easy and clear for kids to follow. My boys have fun cooking Dinner!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in6 interchange for my honest review.
Great book for kids starting to branch out in to cooking, lots of easy to follow recipes and great pictures. Simple language used perfect for children. A great Christmas present.
A good book to share some fun times with your child, encouraging them to produce (and consume) good quality food.
The recipes may not jump out as things that you might have elected to cook, but they work really well and have a good grounding in the main requirements of cooking.
This is a great book for 8 - 12 year old children learning to cook.
It starts with the basics (ask permission, read instructions, wash hands, measure ingredients, etc).
Then it explains:
* the difference between chopping, dicing and mincing
* baking, roasting and stir-fry
* the difference between a simmer and a boil
* wet and dry measurements
* how to read a nutritional label
* how to create a shopping list and compare prices in the grocery store
* much, much more!
The book then gives 25 easy, child friendly recipes with with easy-to-follow step-by-step photos.
Absolutely written for children. A great book.
‘Kids Cook Dinner’ is a nice cookbook for the younger ages.
What I enjoyed the most: the cookbook was divided into two portions. The first being a section of Lessons to learn Kitchen etiquette and rules. There are some good tips and hints in this section. The second section being the recipes. Recipe selection has a good variety of flavors and culture bases. My family made a few recipes and they were easy to follow.
Thank you to NetGalley for granting me permission for an advanced copy of this great book!
Be sure to pick up your copy when it becomes available!
Fun and clear!!
As a person very passionate about introducing kitchen to kids, I was super happy to come across this.
Very clear instructions and easy for kids to follow.
I really enjoyed getting a copy of "Kids Cook Dinner to review. It's set up perfectly for kids to cook for their family
using the kitchen rules , instructions on how to prep and wash food and the cooking definitions provided. The book is filled with interesting recipes with step by step instructions, I loved that it was safety first, and reminded the kids to ask for adult assistance when required. There is even a reminder to clear up afterwards.
I like that they are budget conscious recipes to help out and basic nutritional information is given as well, such ashow much of each food group should be on your plate. It's filled with pictures of kids having fun cooking in the kitchen to inspire your own children and they can even get involved in meal planning with the resources included in the back. All in all it's an informative and fun introduction to cooking. Definitely worth adding to your child's bookshelf.
Easy, kid friendly dinners for children to both eat and cook. Wide variety of different dinners and types and written clearly with simple and easy to follow instructions. I particularly liked the introduction where it focuses on the techniques used for cooking, cost of meals, as well as how to read food labels.
Each recipe has clear instructions accompanied by photos, which is great for visual learners, and the techniques used are very child-friendly. A great resource to empower children and build their confidence in the kitchen from an early age
Such a fun book! Great book for first time future chiefs in the kitchen. I love all the bright colors and easy to follow step by step instructions!
This is a great instruction book for kids. I love the fact that they go over basic safety and kitchen etiquette first and then tackle food prep.. They offer step by step pictures for each recipe. There are great recipes for kids in this book! I highly recommend this to homeschoolers for starting to teach you young kids how to navigate the kitchen and learn to cook.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
A must have cookbook for kids who are ready to start helping in the kitchen. Lots of easy recipes with step by step pictures and instruction. Very fun!
5☆ A Delicious Children’s Cookbook.
Kids Cook Dinner is a fun cookbook that has a great selection of easy to follow recipes, that are delicious and healthy.
What I loved about this book is that at the beginning of the book it gives children a really good insight into what techniques and methods go into cooking. Ie, safety in the kitchen, chopping, whisking, peeling, juicing, stirring, toasting to name a few.
It also looks at food labels, how to read them, tips on how to save money when shopping and conversion charts.
Each recipe is simple to follow, has step by step methods using pictures and text which is so important as it helps children visually see what to do if the text is a little difficult to grasp. For me that is so important. As it means all abilities can benefit from this beautiful book.
Some of the recipes include ; Cheesy bean Quesadillas, Black beans and rice, Pizza night, Shakshuka, Chicken Curry, Beef Empanadas, Popcorn Chicken, Meatballs with Creamy sauce, Fantastic Fish Tacos.
Overall this delightful children's cookbook is fun, engaging and would make the perfect gift for a budding new cook. Thus book would be perfect for children aged 7+
However the younger readers will need some help or supervision with some of the tasks.
An awesome, purposeful book. The purpose? Empower young chefs to the basics, encourage adults to include young chefs, and description and steps for basic recipes.
Will thought out, great pictures that correlate, thoughtful recipes.
I highly recommend getting this, the author has met the intent here superbly.
This was an excellent kids’ cookbook. I love how the beginning was devoted to common cooking techniques and verbiage, and that they discussed labels and costs of meals. The meals were a great variety that included kid favorites like nuggets and quesadillas, while also bringing in a variety of new and flavorful choices. The pictures were great quality and very helpful.
I'm always on the look out for a new kids cookbook and this one is great! It has real photos which is so handy, who wouldn't want to see what your recipe should look like?! 25 kids recipes to try, easy step by steps and helpful tips. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
