An OK read. Started off strong, but somewhere around the middle it started to fall off. It was still entertaining enough that I wanted to finish. I was just hoping that the ending would be strong. Again a solid read with enough activity going to keep you going till the end.

I was excited for this book. I loved the description, the title, and the cover. While there are many books about neighbors, I figured this one might just be the one to blow the rest out of the water. It was just okay. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but I did enjoy it for the most part, it was a quick read and one I feel should be read.

I love a good domestic thriller. Suburban life isn’t always what you think and do you truly know those living right next to you?

This was a fast read that asks “do we really know our neighbors” and “if we see something should we say something”? This was a gripping and thought provoking thriller, well done!
Thank you NetGalley, Joffre Books and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book is available now.

I've read other books by this author and loved them. This one did not disappoint at all either. The main character Beth moved into a new home with her family and feels very closed off. While chasing her dog one day she sees a girl holding a "help me" sign in a neighbors window. The story is told from both Sophia's (girl in window) and Beth's perspectives. It was well-written, the characters were well developed, and the ending was great when it came to getting justice. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

This was a nice, quick read with good tension and pacing throughout. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, though I can't really say much without giving spoilers. Would definitely make a good beach read or something good to read on vacation.

THE PERFECT NEIGHBOUR by Susanna Beard is an unputdownable, messed-up thriller. The story revolves around Beth, who has just moved into a new home in the suburbs. Her neighbor, the beautiful but cold Oksana, seems to eschew neighborhood functions. But one day, while retrieving her dog from her neighbor's garden, Beth sees a girl in Oksana's window holding up a sign "HELP ME." What is going on here?

Here is a disturbing excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from the girl's point of view:

"I feel my body tense. In a moment there'll be the sound of a key in my door and Madam will say: "Get up, get to work," or something like that, in her loud, clipped English. I have only a few minutes to visit my tiny toilet, drag a flannel across my face and get dressed before I start work. No breakfast for two hours, and then just the cold leftovers. Soggy buttered toast, no crispness left."

Overall, THE PERFECT NEIGHBOUR is a disturbing thriller about domestic slavery. One highlight of this book is how much tension there is. I wanted the girl to escape so badly and kept rooting for her throughout her escape attempts. I did take off 2 stars, because there was no climax. All that tension built up and up, but ultimately led to nothing. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, you can check out this book, which is available now.

📖My Thoughts📖

I am terrible, as often times when I choose a book to request, I don’t even look at what the book is about. I select them solely on the cover as well as the title, and occasionally the author as well. So when I dove into this book and realized what was going on, I was pretty shocked to say the least. I’ve heard a little about modern day slavery, but wow. This was a very gripping psychological thriller told from two viewpoints; Sofia, the slave, and Beth, the next door neighbor. It would have interesting to add the views of maybe Oksana, one of the captures to see what she was thinking or feeling during the whole thing. I spent a majority of the book on the edge of my seat waiting for Sofia to be rescued, feeling helpless as a reader for not being there to help her. I didn’t care for how the police were so lackadaisical about the whole thing when first approached about what was possibly going on and it seems as though part of the book was written in first person and some was in the third person. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can honestly say that it drew some strong feelings from me and kept me captivated. If you like psychological thrillers, I would suggest you give this a whirl. Thank you Netgalley, Susanna Beard and Joffe Books for the opportunity to read and review this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

A fast paced suspense thriller about modern slavery hidden in an affluent suburban street. Some of the story.seemed a little.far fetched and the antagonists were badly written. An easy read.

THE PERFECT NEIGHBOUR by Susanna Beard.
Beth wants to love her new home on a quiet suburban street. She wishes she could make friends with her beautiful neighbour Oksana. She longs for a new group of friends. Welcoming neighbours to visit. Coffee dates and dinner parties.
But life here feels so closed. Then Beth runs into Oksana’s garden one day to fetch her runaway dog, and she sees something shocking that makes her wonder who her new neighbours really are.
A girl in the window.
A pale desperate face.
A hastily scribbled sign bearing only two words.
HELP ME.
Who is the girl? What are the neighbours hiding?
A really enjoyable read. Great story and characters. Twisty and tense. 5*.

This book was so good! I want to see more from this author in the future!! I couldn't put this book down. What a page turner!!!

Super quick read! A definite page turner. I did find it fairly easy to guess what was going on, but the author delivers a fantastic trip to get to the end. It is a reminder that just because something looks perfect, doesn't mean it is. New neighbors move in, and are finding that those living around them seem to be a bit peculiar. As they try to get to know their neighbors, they uncover a sinister and dark secret.

3.5 stars - a quick read and pretty intense. You never know what's goes on behind neighbors' closed doors - and what was happening here was dark. It's sure to make you look more closely at your neighbors who don't seem to engage with others and wonder what their story might be!

Wow wow wow, this story was so much deeper than I was expecting it to be. It was super intriguing and honestly the author did an amazing job with this book. I got the chills with the descriptiveness of the horrors to modern day slavery. There were some surprises I wasn’t expecting. I couldn’t wait to get to this ending! Solid read!

This book is about Beth and Sofia, both lovely characters. Beth and her family move to a new house where the neighbours are not at all friendly. Sofia lives in the house next door but is living a terrible life. A disturbing story but very well written. I recommend this book and will look for other books by this author.

Not my cup of tea as it was a bit more far fetched than I prefer. I’m not one for hiding people away in a house and someone being helpless to the point of ridiculousness, (sorry just my opinion here). Plus I may have read too many ‘perfect’ titled books and I’m becoming a bit jaded.

I received an eARC of The Perfect Neighbour by Susanna Beard from Joffe Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
4 stars! I enjoyed reading this suburban psychological thriller. Quite the page-turner!

The story is told from both Beth's and Sofia's points of view.
Beth is new to the neighbourhood and Sofia, is a kidnapped girl.
Beth sees Sofia one day in the window holding a help me sign,
the ending seemed a bit….. The End

There isn’t really much more I can say about it without giving it all away.
It was a quick read for me as I brushed over it pretty fast,
It didn’t grab me.

I was given an advance copy from NetGalley for my honest review.
