Sadly I wasn´t able to download this read before it was archived, which is a pity since I was really looking forward to reading it. Nevertheless, My interest in this book is still very high and I hope to read it in the future!

This is a condensed retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Dialogue seemed to be fairly similar to the original text, if a bit truncated, but the narration is simplified and extra exposition is added to explain character feelings/reactions. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this book went far enough in either direction.

It didn't feel, to me, like it was made "easy" enough to be read independently by a middle school reader, but it was changed enough that that the charm and wit of the original language was lost, along with the nuances about the characters and society that the reader would be expected to deduce. It seems like a reader who could follow this text could probably make it through the original with a bit of support. What was lost in complexity and sophistication didn't seem to be gained in accessibility.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

I loved this. A retelling of Pride and Prejudice in a more modern way without losing any of the magic of the original. Truly, this was wonderful!

This wonderful retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice has all the charm of the original with outspoken characters, family drama and the excitement of Mr Bingley coming to Netherfield Park.

The balls are lively, the dialogue is witty and Mr Darcy is as brooding as ever. Readers will find themselves swept away into the Regency era, able to understand the language and themes of the classic story.

My eldest daughter is a huge Jane Austen fan and has just completed the huge challenge of reading the original Pride and Prejudice. I know this Barrington Stoke version will be perfect for helping her cement the key events in her mind and great to come back to when she studies the story in her GCSE English. My younger daughter isn’t up for the original but really likes the look of this more accessible version. Having this option means they can both enjoy the timeless story and talk about it together.

This was an excellent adaptation of Pride and Prejudice for young readers to be able to understand and enjoy the classic story. All of the main points of the book are there with simplified language, while still retaining the original tale's charm and humor. Excellent read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Barrington Stoke for access to this arc.

This was a great read and a perfect retelling of the well known classic love story. I loved how modern it was as I think that the language can scare people of in classic literature so this would bring the story to a wider audience. I really enjoyed it.

I was gifted this ARC in return for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher!!

A retelling of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, you did not need to say anymore. Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favorite love stories, one of my favorite books, and one of my favorite movies. I’m so happy with this retelling, it stayed very true to the original Pride and Prejudice but told in a more modern and easier to understand way. I do wish it was longer and had a little more detail as the book is so rich and the movie adaptations were even richer. But all of my favorite scenes were there and the story is very much the story I fell in love with!

I am fond of all things Pride and Prejudice. So a retelling is just up my alley. However, within the first couple of pages I did not think of this as a retelling but an adaptation for young readers.

For me a retelling is the same story but an added element to make it different. This book was more of a simplification of the original story to make it easier and quicker to read.

And it works. The main plot points are there. But the scenes are wrapped up in regency explanations and deep emotional explanation. While it is good for younger readers it is okay for mature minds.

I've been wanting to read Pride and Prejudice for *years* but the language is intimidating to even me, an 18 year old English student. While I've been getting better at reading old language, I felt receiving the ARC of this book would be a better starting point than diving straight into the original text. I think this book did a great job making Austen's language more accessible to readers who need it, and I'm now very eager to go read the original text now that I know the plot and characters.

I think this is a very good retelling of Pride and Prejudice for kids, with good graphics and a recollection of the Peacok edition of 1894. I read it is dyslexia-friendly, so this is a very good thing, too.
I also liked the many quotations from the original work by Jane Austen, so I think Laura Wood and Barrington Stoke made a very good job with this retelling.

While this author did a great job highlighting the important parts of the story and keeping a good percentage of the humor, the breakneck pace interfered with, for lack of a better word, the charm of the story.

As an ardent fan of Austen’s work, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this adaptation. Unlike some retellings of much-loved classics that might take artistic liberties, Laura Wood stays true to the original story and tells it in a way that’s likely to be embraced by young readers.

Many thanks to Barrington Stoke and NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this work.

It takes real skill to write an abridged version of a classic novel without losing the spirit of the text, but Laura Wood has beautifully truncated 'Pride and Prejudice' to make this wonderful story accessible to a greater breadth of readers. Many of Jane Austen's witty observations and dialogue remain intact with a few new delightful additions, such as this hilarious line: '"One knows exactly what to think," Lizzy muttered. Her opinion of Mr Darcy was now about level with that of a slug.' I thoroughly enjoyed this adaptation.

I was delighted with this retelling of Pride & Prejudice! Laura Wood managed to capture the true tale Jane Austen wrote while simultaneous managing to break the novel down so a younger audience and read and enjoy it!

The novel follows the exact pattern and story of the original and adds in some of the most famous lines from the book. While the story is condensed is doesn’t feel lacking at any point. No scenes seemed to be rushed and all the key important pieces remained.

This is a wonderful way to introduce the younger generation to the classic works of Jane Austen!

I highly recommend this book if you’re hoping to introduce your child to Austen!

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books of all time, so I'm always excited to read any new adaptations or retellings. This one by Laura Wood is less a retelling and more an adapted version of the original text. The story is shortened and more accessible to the reader without losing its heart and soul. Despite being much shorter than the original it still manages to capture the essence and magic of Austen. A brilliant book for anyone who wants to read Austen but is daunted by the language and writing, or for younger readers.

I misread this description and thought that this was a retelling, not an adaption.

This was a nice, succinct adaptation good for young readers. I appreciated that many memorable quotes from the original made their way into this version. Some of the language (and the story itself) may still be a little complex for very young readers, but I think older children would enjoy this.
