Absolutely beautiful read, I loved everything about it ,and , as I’ve actually been to Bosham and Chichester many times it was great to not only read it but picture it too. I’ve always enjoyed Erica James’ writing and this was no exception, great story , beautifully written and with such great characters. Highly recommended.
Ah! An Erica James book, they never fail to disappoint. I loved every minute of this story and just didn’t want it to end. Relatable characters, true to life story, nothing that shocks or horrifies. Simply an engrossing novel with characters you feel you’ve met before in real life.
Thank you to the author, publishers and Netgalley for an arc which was much enjoyed
I enjoyed this book by Erica James as much as others she has written. The story explores the relationship between a mother and her 2 daughters and their relationship with each other. Martha the elder likes everything to be we ordered and is very logical, Willow is more of a free spirit. As the story unfolds the relationship with their partners impacts the lives of them all. Martha wants to organise her mothers life after the death if their father, however her mother has other ideas. Domestic violence, abuse, bullying, coercive control all have a place in how the personalities of each have been created. I was hooked fro. The start. My only concern was the outcome for Rick. This felt unsatisfactory,as if it was cut short to end the book.
Another excellent story from Erica James. Well written and enjoyable read about a family and how they deal with everyday life; it also covers some additional topics (pregnancy / bullying) in a sensitive and thoughtful way
This book was excellent, it tells the story of a mothers relationship with her two daughters, I found it very enjoyable ..
A wonderful feel good story that had me crying tears of joy. Martha is trying for a baby and with Willow her sister they try and persuade their mum to move to live closer to them. Mum is determined to stay where she is and then discovers an old boyfriend has moved in next to her. They rekindle their love. Meanwhile Willow finds herself pregnant with her controlling boyfriend but then so does Martha. I won’t give any spoilers but love finds a way. Brilliant
I really enjoyed this book and it certainly kept me turning the pages in anticipation of what was coming next..
The descriptive writing was really good and I could imagine the house by the sea. I don't go in for overly descriptive writing and this was just perfect. I thought all the characters were believable and likeable.
My only criticism would be of the way the character of Rick was dealt with.. The character we had come to know, I don't believe would have acted in the way he did at the end.. Felt like an easy way out.to be rid of him..
Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ Stories for a copy of this ARC for which I have given my voluntary and unbiased review.
A really lovely story full of the trials and tribulations of a family and the different members. With lots of secrets within the group, it brings a beautiful tale through to a pleasing finale
Such a lovely story ! You couldn’t help but be drawn into the story and imagine the beautiful seaside cottage. Very well drawn characters with complex lives that portray real life relationships very well. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Two sisters; Martha and Willow are completely the opposite in characters. Martha was like their headstrong dad, whilst Willow is deemed too layed back by some.
Their mum, Naomi has kept the family together, withholding secrets of their past.
An old flame of Naomi's, Ellis arrives in her village and their lives changes.
The story blends together the lives of Martha, Willow, Naomi and their partners. Secrets, lies and home truths finally surface. These could either make or break their relationship for good.
A great easy read.
What a book! I finished this at 1am last night because I literally couldn’t put it down without finding out what happened. It did take me a little bit to get into the story. At first I felt one character was too wish washy and the other was too harsh but the characters soon become more 3d and I felt more affectionate towards them! The story is Naomi, the mother and her two daughters Martha and Willow, starting a few years after the patriarch of the family has died. It’s about new starts and uncovering secrets, similarities and differences.
A gripping book, I loved it
Having enjoyed several books from this author before, was eager to read this one. I think it has to definitely be top of my list, absolutely loved it. So easy to read & connect with the characters. Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read it.
An absolute must read, especially for Erica James fans. A compelling family drama with some quite powerful issues being addressed.
A solid four star read. Great premise. Well written. Fantastic characterisation.. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me intrigued..Would definitely read her next novel. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
What a fab read, a great story and some great charecters, storyline kept me gripped from the start and I finished this great read within two days
I love Erica James and have read all her books so was excited to be given the opportunity to read this one and it certainly didn't disappoint it was brilliant, kept me reading and didn't want to put it down
As the title suggests it is about Naomi and her 2 daughters Martha and Willow who are the complete opposites of each other, but grow closer together when they both end up pregnant at the same time and Willows boyfriend turns out not to be as nice as they though he was
I don't want to say more so as not to spoil the story but I loved it
Erica James is one of my favourite authors and this book was another brilliant read. It’s the story of Naomi and her two daughters, Martha and Willow as they deal with the fact that their mother is moving on after their father’s death two years before. The individual characters are realistically portrayed and the relationships between them are very believable. As the story unfolds, we discover the secrets that each character has hidden from their family and the three women have to re-evaluate who they are.
I loved the family and the gorgeous setting on the Sussex coast. The plot twists and revelations kept me interested right to the end. Definitely one to recommend!
A totally brilliant compelling read which certainly grabbed my attention. A strong story revolving around three women from the same family with their relationships between themselves and the men in their lives and what goes on beneath the surface. The book does involve some quite disturbing issues of controlling abuse covered up by family secrets. Mainly set on the south coast near Chichester with a believable mix of characters, good and bad. Despite the more serious side of the book, there's also uplifting positive moments as the book unfolds
This book kept me riveted. For some reason I thought it was going to be a rom com but it turned out to be so much more.
The characters were beautifully drawn - the good, and the bad, and the storyline was excellent, with many twists and turns.
The book is set in Cornwall and the descriptions of the village, the coast and the house were so good that I could see them in my minds eye.
I will now be searching out any more titles by Erica James - brilliant!!
Unfortunately, I couldn't enlarge the font on my mobile so I was unable to read this book
