Do you want cavities?
Then this sweet shoujo manga is for you! Very sweet, very adorable!

The manga follows cafe worker Madoka as she interacts with new hire, Shikura. He just wants to be left alone, but every avenue of his life forces him to interact with his "fangirls" who won't respect his boundaries and invade his personal space.

I love that Madoka tries to be sensitive to the things that trigger Shikura! In so many of these kinds of manga, one person decides they need to steamroll the other into be "less" introverted and more friendly and it was refreshing to see someone respecting a boundary rather than hurdling through it.

This was a very adorable read. The story is very easy to read. It has a male lead that has been hit on many times and that causes a misunderstanding with the female lead. Once they get to know each other more after being in close proximity of each other you can see the male leads icy persona melt away. It's filled with beautiful artwork and hilarious images for their reactions to things happening to them.

Thank you to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review!

It was very few pages in that I had to put my phone down, stare at a wall and exclaim "It's an enemies to lovers!" We are dropped in this world with these two adorable high schoolers and the time they spend with each other at their work in a restaurant. There's a distinct behavioural arc from the beginning to the end, as they both grow accustomed to their unique communication patterns. It was so cute to see this young girl trying to understand this new situation and also her feeling and reactions. Like, bless them because they made my day reading this.

I would definitely recommend this if you enjoy reading manga romances! I would also recommend buying both volumes upfront because I have just ordered my copy of volume two!!!

Rom-coms about cute girls falling in love with cute guys are as bountiful as your local Wal-Mart’s smutty romance novel bin. There are some that do shine more than others, especially the manga that pokes fun of the genre it’s technically a part of. You’re My Cutie!!, the debut series from author Nakaba Harufuji, is one such series that attempts to playfully jab at the shojo romance genre. But does it succeed in making fun of it, or does it fall victim of becoming what it was trying to parody?

Madoka works at her parents’ diner, serving customers with great care. But when she’s not working, she’s nose-deep in her favorite romance manga. However, a new coworker named Shikura enters Madoka’s life, looking as cute as one of her manga protagonists. But his true personal is the complete opposite of her fictional crushes, acting cold and distant rather than sweet and caring.

When a student from Shikura’s school arrives and starts taking unsolicited pictures, Madoka starts to realize why he acts the way he does. Constantly swarmed by girls due to his looks, Shikura does everything in his power to shoo them off. Now understanding his situation, Madoka does her best to make sure Shikura’s comfortable enough to work with her. Yet every time he does something that’s remotely cute, Madoka begins to feel warm & fuzzy in her heart.

One of the things that You’re My Cutie!! attempts to do is make the pairing of Shikura and Madoka as incompatible as possible. At most times, Harufuji does a decent job showcasing the polarity between the two of them. However, it’s when lines are crossed when the manga’s laugh-out-loud moments come out of the woodwork. This is evident when Shikura kisses Madoka in front of a bunch of crazy stalkers, a motion that confuses both the stalkers and Madoka herself.

The comedy works best when Madoka is conflicted about her feelings for Shikura. Despite him being cute, his personality is the complete opposite of what she likes in a guy. Yet when he misplaces his cellphone, gets lost in a nearby shopping district, or comes down with a cold, Madoka sees the real puppy dog mentality Shikura possesses. These moments also showcase Madoka’s true personality, which is — pardon the old Zooey Deschanel terminology — adorkable!

Harufuji’s art style keeps to the traditional aspect of shojo rom-coms. Everything is bright and pretty, with a bit of haze thrown in during moments of tenderness between Madoka and Shikura. But it’s the author’s facial expression game that bests them all, with the various looks of surprise and endearment from Madoka making this review snort out loud on many occasions.

However, the first volume of You’re My Cutie!! leaves things off with a cliffhanger, in a way that seems to do the very thing that Harufuji was trying to avoid. Could it be a fake out? Considering one was pulled in the second chapter, it’s quite possible. With that being said, if what Madoka says to Shikura is real, then we may have a problem with the way this series could be progressing later on.

Nevertheless, You’re My Cutie!! starts things off on a pretty good note. Both Madoka and Shikura are likable-enough characters to make any fan of the genre want to see how it all turns out. Harufuji has a good knack of what works in shojo romance manga, and does well when working against the grains of said category. But with the way things end in Volume One, You’re My Cutie!! might be in trouble of going a little too fast with its progression.

Looks can be deceiving, so of course you shouldn’t let any handsome guy fool you, not even a fictional one . . . Sure, says no reader ever!

With a character whose looks don’t seem to match his personality, and a pretty artwork that sometimes turns into the cutest ever—the main characters drawn in chibi style are the sweetest—this manga doesn’t fail to put a smile on your face and keeps your attention alive all the time. Add a girl who’s not afraid to face certain situations and tell people off, and you know things can only get more interesting as you turn the pages. It may sound odd, but it’s hard not to see why Madoka’s heart melts all of a sudden for the same guy who also infuriates her. As she admits herself, “he’s positively gifted at being cute” and that, for a girl like her who is so infatuated with younger, sweet guys in shōjo reads, it’s kinda everything! Or is it? And, more importantly, can she push down the walls this kohai created around him and get to know the real Shikura-kun?

An enjoyable and sweet read that just makes you wanna see the bond between these two bloom in all its glory. Mark my words, this is a manga that could just very well be your cutie!

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha for the e-ARC of this manga.

First of all, I'd like to say that I really love the art style for this manga!! It is neat and extremely gorgeous that I keep admiring the art style while reading the manga. The characters are also really cute especially when they look like dogs or in chibi version. The concept of handsome, cool guy but careless is quite funny. I enjoyed seeing Momoki being unconsciously cute and Madoka just there, stopping herself from adoring the guy hahahaha.

The storyline is simple and fast-paced, just like another shojo/romance manga, so it is not really unique. However, I'd still like to read more of this manga just for its fluffiness and the pretty art style! I bet we will know more about the male lead, Momoki Shikura in the next volume.

Cute and quick read. If you like fluffy shojo that isn’t too deep, you will enjoy this. But I need more than the romance…I need more substance in order to want to read future volumes…

Thank you Netgalley for letting me read a digital copy for review!

I enjoyed this so thoroughly, it being sweet and wholesome. I also found the fact that Madoka genuinely try's to respected Shikura's boundary's throughout this volume. Given that consent and boundaries often feel like something that is thrown to the way side in anime and manga, it felt refreshing.

I also just generally loved Shikura, but mostly because his airheaded-ness felt like someone had taken a snap shot of my life and put it on the page.

Madoka love shojo manga that features young innocent looking guys. When her father hires a new younger guy at the family restaurant its a bit confusing. He's pretty standoffish and seems to have rude fans but she'll be the one to help him out.

Such a cute book! It was fun seeing the interactions between Madoka and Kohai as she tries to push her feelings away and as he softens a bit towards her. Then there was the rude fans which got me curious to know more about Kohai. Such a fun book I really enjoyed it I can't wait to get ahold of the next book!

First and foremost, I'd like to express my gratitude to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an e-ARC of this manga.
This manga is quite cute. The relationship between the younger boyfriend and the elder girlfriend was beautifully depicted. I adored the cold guy on the appearance who was truly a softie on the heart, and I adored your troupe. Their adorable times together, as well as the way they care for and protect each other without offending their partners' feelings, are CUTE!!!

Reading "You're My Cutie" volume 1 by Nakaba Harufuji certainly felt like a traditional romance shojo and unfortunately, it fell down a little because of that.

Madoka is the heroine of this volume but I'm not sure how much I like her - she is obsessed with shojo romance with the kouhai trope and therefore is on the lookout for a cute sweet kouhai to call her sempai! She also works really hard in her family's restaurant to help support her family. She has a strong sense of right and wrong but also can appear feeble and lacking strength, so this mixture of character aspects made me a little unsure if I really wanted to root for her in her romantic endeavours, especially given the object of her affections.

The male lead in this story is Shikura-kun, how is one year younger than Madoka and therefore her kouhai.... you can see where this is going. Which is kind of the problem with this manga. It's too obvious. Except with Shikura-kun's personality and personal history, as he has obviously gone through some things and experiences trauma, nee abuse, on a daily basis from immature high school girls and their attentions. This felt like it could have been dealt with a little better.

Anyway, while I thought this would be a slow read, as the two main charcters start to develop a friendship, I was enjoying the story, but as the publishers or mangaka felt that it was absolutely necessary to add in the romantic elements at the end of the first volume instead of what would have been a healthier choice for the characters, it left me feeling a little cold and obviously manipulated. I can't honestly dislike Madoka for her choice at the end of volume 1 as it is obviously a scheming editor's choice instead. I don't like being able to see behind the curtain...

This manga was adorable! I liked both MCs and their dynamic was very cute. While this manga followed the basic plot of a shojo it was just too cute!! I definitely recommend it you're looking for a sweet romance. Will definitely continue!

It’s been awhile since I read a plain, old fashioned romantic comedy, but this manga fit what I was craving perfectly. It is a cute and funny slice-of-life filled with awkward encounters and shoujo sparkles. Basically the perfect palette cleanser if you’re needing something warm and sweet.
In terms of manga tropes, You’re My Cutie isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it’s hook is pretty refreshing. This is a story that uses the senpai-kouhai (older, more knowledgeable student/tutor paired with a slightly younger or less knowledgeable protege or trainee) romance setup, but in this instance the older student is the girl—which isn’t as common in these types of narratives. Unfortunately for Madoka, her kouhai is the disagreeable Shikura. Who, despite his pretty face, is rude and socially awkward around girls. This volume is basically their slow progression from terrible first impressions to tentative friendship.
The story is adorable, and the art has a distinctive sweetness about it that is automatically endearing without feeling like I’ve seen it before.
Immediately after finishing this first volume, I texted my best friend and told her to read it. So yes, I do recommend it if you’re looking for a new manga series to pick up. As for myself, I’ll probably get the second volume once it becomes available on ereader tomorrow.

I loved it, it's a very cute story.

Madoka is a girl who likes cute and soft boys, who don't mind showing their weaknesses or depending on other people, a cinnamon roll. One day, helping her parents in the restaurant, she meets a boy who starts working there temporarily, Shikura.

At first they clash a lot, Shikura does not trust anyone, much less the girls since until now they have only approached him out of interest, but little by little a relationship of friendship and trust is born between him and Madoka, thus showing his true personality and increasingly leaving aside that grumpy part.

One of the things I like the most about this manga is that there is no love relationship from the beginning, things go little by little, and I adore Shikura. He is a puppy hiding in the skin of a lone wolf, I love it when he is vulnerable or embarrassed.

A fairly soft manga with a story that is simmering. Highly recommended.

I don't see shojo with a younger love interest where magical shenanigans aren't in loved so that in and of itself is refreshing. The main character catching feels so quickly is also nice given the circumstances of their friendship would make a delayed confession feel manipulative. The one criticism I have is the main character is a very typical earnest and forthright type which makes her a little boring. Still, I've pre-ordered the second book so it obviously didnt effect my enjoyment.

This manga follows a girl named Makoda who likes younger, cute guys in her shojo manga. When a guy a year below her in school, Shikura-kun, comes to work part time at her dads restaurant it seems perfect:- but he is cold and rude to her. As Makoda works with him and gets to know him, she slowly starts to realize all of the aspects of his personality that lie beneath that prickly exterior.

I loved this manga, and found it absolutely adorable. The main characters were both so awkward around each other, which was funny to read about. I really enjoyed seeing both of the characters interact and start to understand each other. Shikura-kun's distrust of Makoda made perfect sense, and I like that the book addressed how weird people can be about those who are considered popular/attractive and how behavior can become harassment and stalking. I also liked how understanding Makoda was about his distrust and how careful she was to try not to make him uncomfortable or cross any of his boundaries.

I can't wait to read volume 2 of this manga- I'm really looking forward to it!

You're My Cutie, Volume 1
by Nakaba Harufuji
A Review

*Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha to providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review!*

This year was my first year dipping a toe into shojo manga! And so far I have no regrets!

You’re My Cutie is the story of Madoka- a high schooler, gaga over shojo manga and especially one type in particular! The ones where cute, young, innocent guys fall for their Sempai!

So when a new, younger guy, Shikura-kun, starts at work, tall and with a beautiful face that’s enough to make you stop in your tracks and gasp! One would think that Madoka would be in heaven!

Except Shikura-kun isn’t cute at all!

On their first meeting he scolds and clicks his tongue at her! His attitude a total contrast to his good looks…or so it would appear!

After a rough getting to know you process, Madoka gets a feel for navigating Shikura-kkun’s jagged heart and we begin to see a side of him that his sour attitude hides. He’s always on the defense, sassy, easily shy, doesn’t know how to apologize, gets flustered easily and is so absent-minded!

In other words, so adorable!

And even though she doesn’t intend to, she finds herself charmed by him!

You’re my Cutie was such a delightful read! Fluffy and sweet! But it also shows another side of popularity and how it can make you withdraw into yourself, how isolating it is and how people no longer view you as a person but more like a consumable product.

So if you like stories with stunningly gorgeous art, humorous encounters, rude and standoffish handsome guys, quirky sweet girls and a bit of cliche, and fluff this is definitely a story for you!

I can’t wait to read more of this story!

This is a solid beginning to a cute story.
I liked how ordinary Madoka is, which seems to be the biggest part of her character. She's a random girl who likes to look at cute, soft guys and works at her dad's dinner to help out. That's where she meets preternaturally handsome Shikura-kun. He seems to be a bit traumatized by how girls stalk him and throw themselves at him, so he's instantly distrustful of Madoka's intentions. Seeing him slowly open up to Madoka and Madoka doing her best to see beyond Shikura-kun's good looks makes for great reading. There are funny moments, heartfelt moments, and, as the title suggests, cute moments.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with these two and digging more into Shikura-kun's unusual circumstances.

Many happy thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the cute read!
