One word, Adorable.
Shikura has always had girls chasing after him, not caring about his personal space, his privacy, or him at all, past how attractive they find him.
From sneaking photos of him to actually swarming around him. He's uncomfortable with all the attention and superficialness it's brought about in his life. He's angry and untrusting.
Madoka likes PRETTY BOYS. Boys that are soft, sweet, with little puppy expressions. Reading magazines, mangas, and maybe sim dating games.
But life isn't easy, her parents own a cafe and helping out takes up all of her spare time. Then her dad goes and hires Shikura, with the jokes they might get along with each other and maybe more.
They go from standoffish, to friends over the idea she sees him as a person. Whether it's because he's not her type MIGHT be up for debate, their mutual bond of learning to trust each other shows that everyone just wants people to be "real" in their lives.
Enemies to friends... to more? Not sure, definitely need more than one volume to find out.

It says in the thanks that this is the author's first work (although I'm not very convinced, maybe the first with an English translation? I think there are two more of her titles ...)
In this case, I tend to define this manga as an average job. There is a strong influence of the classic shojo titles in the style of the 90s, even in the art used. In history too. It is easy to pass for a new attempt by the author of Lovely Complex to return to the market, for example.
The main character balances between the shojo empty-headed and the straight-mouthed girl, as her creator wanted to present to us. In appearance, however, it brings him more to the heroine of the first kind and fails to win me over. The main character is a classic temerut. The idea is not bad, it is relatively rarely used - the girl is a little older than the boy, in this case by very little. But the characters are not very well represented, personally, in my opinion, they do not have a very rich inner world. The boy in general, at least in the first volume.
This opinion is in the original Bulgarian language, sorry for the translation errors.

This was a total delight to read! Such a cute and surprisingly amusing shojo romance manga!
All of the characters were fantastic. The fact that the male love interest wasn’t actually a rude guy was like icing on the cake! He wasn’t remotely tsundere, he was actually very sweet albeit a little wary at first. I found that to be very refreshing and the whole younger guy, older girl called for a different and interesting dynamic.
The atmosphere was very wholesome, cute, and funny throughout and this was spurred on by the protagonist finding the love interest cute, the love interest acting like a doofus scatter-brain, and most surprisingly of all, the protagonist’s parents being the biggest shippers of us all!
There’s really nothing to fault here! A fantastic start to what’s surely going to be a much-loved manga series.
If you like your romance manga with awkwardness and little acts of kindness, you will probably like this series!
One of the things I really liked about this book was how the two main characters were willing to talk to one another about their personal boundaries. It was very refreshing to see the two leads talk so openly to each other in a genre usually full of miscommunications. There is also a genuine desire from both parties to improve the rocky start of their relationship, and get to know the other person with no strings attached. The characters, and their emotional progressions through the chapters, feels natural.
I was expecting something far more trope heavy, given the premise, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one!
This is a solid shojo romance manga with enough of a twist to the formula to make it feel fresh. Madoka loves to read shojo manga about cute sweet guys who fall for their senpai (upperclassman). She dreams that one of these young sweet guys will fall for her someday. When Shikura starts working part-time at her family's diner, he has the cute part down but he is definitely NOT sweet! He is stalked and pestered constantly, by "fan girls" who like the way he looks. He's so traumatized by this that he comes off as prickly and standoffish to Madoka. Can he let his guard down when he finds out that he is the opposite of what she is looking for in a boy? Recommended for fans of "Hatsu Haru" or "Honey So Sweet".
At first, I was unsure of how I'd feel about this work because of how it all started off since it was almost enemies to lovers but not? Once the story got going though, it got me excited to see what would happen next. Plenty of cute scenes that are great for the heart and definitely recommend for shoujo manga fans! The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the pacing felt a little fast but that's more personal preference.
You're My Cutie is actually quite good and even refreshing for a shoujo manga! A steady one too. Madoka loves shoujo manga and cute puppy like boys younger than her. She helps her father at a restaurant and and a boy is hired to help out there. Enter Momoki. He's nasty at first and doesn't want Madoka to like her, since it seems that girls are all over him and he's basically scared. These two get to know one another better in a realistic way and Momoki is quite different to what Madoka first thought and well, vice versa. I really liked Madoka as she is a normal girl, she looks normal and acts normal too. It's so different! She actually thinks about things and analyzes stuff. Sadly so the liking enters the picture already in this first part, which takes out the fourth star for me, since I wish Harufuji had used more time to develop the relationship.
The art looks nice as in the characters actually have facial expressions, even though the basic art isn't out of this world. The ordinary style works well with this and I don't need sparkles and whatnot, so this is actually way better like this. The backgrounds are a bit lacking though and the same settings we have, but either way, OK style-wise. Madoka's character makes this worthwhile, she's the dynamite!
This was so adroably cute! The art style is one of my favorites and it felt like a hate to love which i also love. I really want to know what happens in the second one... leaving me off like that on the last chapter pff.
This is so unbearably cute! I was in a slump and just needed something to not think too heavily on and just enjoy my time with. This was perfect! The only bummer is that I can't immediately pick up the next one.
I love shoujo manga. Absolutely a guilty pleasure, as I do feel like I’m a little old to be reading high school love stories. But I can’t help it. You’re my cutie seems like it’s going to be a good read. I really can’t wait for the next volume!
3.8 stars
This is a shojo manga with a 1-year younger guy. The main girl's type is younger than her but should be cute as a puppy. Our main guy is the tsundere and cool type of guy.
This trope or cliche is still well beloved in shojo manga so if you like the tsundere guy and just a normal girl that we can relate to, you will totally enjoy this. (And yes I love tsundere boys and Nakaba Harufuji's art is so pretty and just perfect for my shojo taste.)
What's different with this from the rest is that the guy, as tsundere as he is, gets shy A LOT and that makes our heroine squeal. Also, our main girl is not entirely annoying as she's the type who speaks up for others.
Huge thanks to NetGalley, Nakaba Harufuji and Kodansha for an eARC of this.
I loved this manga!! It was so incredibly cute!! If you are looking for a really sweet read with some good romantic teases and will they/wont they moments then you need this manga! I am already dying to read volume 2! I loved the characters and look forward to seeing their backgrounds and more about why they are the way they are. There were also several moments that were laugh out loud funny and it was just a fabulous time. The art is beautiful, the characters are intriguing and the story is so interesting! What more could you want!!
Madoka Kawahara is a fan of shojo manga, especially those where the male lead is younger than the protagonist. Little does she know, fiction might become reality when her dad hires a new part-timer, Momoki Shikura, who is a year younger than her. However, he is a far cry from the cute kohai she tends to like in manga, he is rude, and it feels like he can’t stand her presence. The truth is, once he lets his walls down, Shikura can be cute and totally Modoka’s type!!
After reading the first three pages of the manga, I was worried because what I was reading wasn’t the type of manga that I usually like. I thought it was going to be childish, but surprisingly, it wasn’t, and I ended up enjoying it the manga much more than I thought.
Even though she likes cute boys in manga, Madoka isn’t the sweet character you might expect. She doesn’t mind telling Shikura off when he goes too far, rather than keep sulking about his bad behavior. It doesn’t only apply to Shikura, she had a sharp tongue and doesn’t let people walk all over her. For once, it was nice to have a female character act like this. On the other hand, Shikura is a tsundere character, who doesn’t have the best behavior, but he does apologize to Madoka (you are earning good points!).
I also liked that the two leads are not in the same school, therefore most of the scenes take place at the restaurant where they both work, which was a nice change since shojo manga tends to take place in a school setting.
One thing that confuse me though is the fact that Shikura has “fans”, like the synopsis states, so I thought that it would, later on, be revealed that he is some kind of star. It wasn't the case, so I’m even more confused. I guess they are just high schoolers who are obsessed because he is handsome.
This was a cute read with gorgeous art throughout. I could not stop looking at the pages, it is so pretty.
The paneling does a really smooth job at conveying the character’s intentions and feelings.
I found that the story and the characters don’t really move away from cute though. It wasn’t a character heavy read and most of the main guy’s redeeming qualities were that he was irresistibly cute. Maybe I am not the right target for shoujo manga, but I expected a bit more depth for the writing.
The idea of Shikura being stand-offish because he had bad experience with girls was a good concept but I felt like it fell a bit flat in the execution.. He was super rude to Madoka for no reason at the beginning of the story. It also made no sense why other girls would immediately flock to “stalk” Shikura for looking handsome but diss Madoka. She looked just as good as any other girl in the book.
It didn’t make a whole lot of sense why it would be fun for all those girls to follow Shikura around if he was so rude to all of them. I get why he would be closed off and wary after girls trying to get handsy with him but he was downright paranoid at the beginning of the story chalking up every normal human interaction to people trying to take advantage of him. And given his history it didn’t make a lot of sense why he’d be okay touching and kissing Madoka without any consent..
I liked that they discussed their communication issues towards the end of the book but it didn’t feel like they had actually gotten to know each other during this first volume. A bit more character depth and meaningful interactions with maybe a slowburn romance would make this a wonderful manga.
This manga is very cute! The dynamic of all the characters it funny and interesting. The ending just makes me want to read more!
Madoka has a thing for cute boys, especially those whose personalities match their appearances. One day, she learns that her father hired a part-timer. Shikura treats Madoka rudely, and he wants nothing to do with her. Madoka soon understands why he behaves so standoffish when his female classmates come to the restaurant. She selflessly steps forward to protect Shikura from unwanted attention. A tentative friendship blooms between them.
This manga did not disappoint! I found it incredibly cute! I will definitely be picking up a volume for my collection once it is released.
Shikura’s situation reminds me of the four protagonists of Tomoko Hayakawa’s THE WALLFLOWERS – where girls are only obsessed with his looks, and when he is with Madoka, their behavior turns catty and mean. However, Shikura’s temperament is completely different.
I really like Madoka. She is so understanding. Her attitude towards Shikura changes once she understands why he behaves so unapproachable.
She also tries to put him at ease, avoiding subjects that would make him feel uncomfortable, and protects him from his fanbase.
This e-copy was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and the publisher for review. All opinions are my own.
I went into this one slightly skeptical, just because it was a topic of manga I wasn't sure was for me but I got to say, I LOVED this manga!!
The art style is beautiful, the storyline and characters are comical and complex. I seriously can not wait until I can get my hands on the second volume. Don't hesitate if you want a good laugh and a fun, easy manga to jump into.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for providing me with an eARC of this manga in exchange for an honest review.
Madoka loves the younger soft boys of shoujo manga, everything that Shikura isn't. When her father first hired him he was rude and standoffish towards her, making it clear that didn't want to have anything to do with her. Then, when a group of girls from Shikura's school rush to the restaurant, treating him like an idol and taking unwanted pictures, Madoka protects him and signals to him that maybe she is a girl that can be trusted.
This is one of the cutest shoujo mangas I have read in a long while. I honestly haven't read anything like it. Madoka is a dreamer, but also fairly mature unlike the typical shoujo heroine and she isn't completely boy crazy, not that it's a bad thing. I just really liked her personality, it made her stand out and I honestly want to root for her.
Shikura is also a fairly unique hero, he isn't unnecessarily mean to Madoka, everything is rooted in the way that other girls, more boy crazy girls, have treated him. I get that and it's refreshing to see a hero that has these issues and is kind of hesitant about women. Usually there's the rude hot-shot hero who turns into a cinnamon roll out of nowhere and you're just wondering what happened.
I can't wait to see Madoka and Shikura's friendship blossom. I wholeheartedly recommend this manga especially for older audiences that aren't ready to commit to josei manga. The characters feel a bit more mature for their age but still retain the classic shoujo feel.
This was a solid romance, with the usual cuteness of shoujo sprinkled on top. I did enjoy how the protagonist is the older one, however other than that there wasn't anything done that I haven't seen already. However it was enjoyable, and the story piqued enough interest for me to check the rest of the story out when it's available.
This is such a lovely start to a new series - cannot wait to get my hands on Volume 2! The art is beautiful and I love the flashes of humour and light comedy that intersperse the story. YOU'RE MY CUTIE is a light and fluffy, feel-good volume with characters who are immediately likeable.
Madoka is the perfect female lead - smart, sensible and a hopeless romantic. Meanwhile Shikura seems like he's going to be a cold-hearted love interest, but is actually adorable, especially in his clumsy moments, There's already lots of room for character development and I'm excited to see where this manga goes.
