Surprising, wonderful and exciting.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy of this book in exchange for my feedback.

I was blown away by this strange, unpredictable novel. It took a little while for it to really grip me, but once it did I couldn't put it down. What begins as a story about English folklore, winding a path through centuries of medieval England, soon becomes something darker and knottier, following a forest and its resident folk legend through the enclosure acts, the growth of London and the threat of climate catastrophe, then beautifully imagining an unruly future where the forest and its legends take back the land. Astonishing - fans of Max Porter and Daisy Johnson will love it!

I really enjoyed this book, the cover is visually attractive, the premise was intruiguing and the writing style was interesting. I loved the setting and the character development and I also really liked the magical elements as well.

It took me a while to get into the style of writing in this book, but once I had there was no looking back.
At times it felt other worldly, yet filled with names from an area I'm very familiar with.
Which added more magic and mystery.
A series of connecting stories, set over hundreds of years, full as the title suggests, mischief, and sometimes menace.
A most enjoyable debut.
