Previously I’ve only read Ms Bev’s historical romances, and this was a nice change of pace. This was a quick read and I loved the balance of tension of the mystery with the sweetness of the romance between Jasmine and Torr. I also loved how the family dynamics and friendship was shown. For such a short story, it did a lot of development and was enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this for folks wanting a short romantic suspense novella with a sweet, fast-paced romance.

This was a really fast-paced, interesting story, and of course the writing was on point. How could it not be? I just wish it wasn't a novella, because I struggled to be invested in the mystery when everything was moving so fast, and I wanted more time with Jas and Torr in order to root for their love. I think readers who like instalove with a hefty dose of adventure will love this one, though.

It started off so well, but there is just way, WAY too much going on in this novella - there are simply not enough pages to do any of the storylines justice. There’s a strangers to lovers romance, a suspenseful element, descriptions of both lead characters’ jobs, AND a random subplot dealing with an elderly couple. It’s too much. So, while I was immediately pulled into the romance, things unraveled pretty quickly. And then it was over. The saddest part is that this is my introduction to the great Jenkins’ work, and it wasn’t a positive one.

The story follows Jasmine and Torr, two strangers who meet after a blind date gone wrong. They have immediate chemistry but don't do anything about it until they discover an unexpected connection. It's not long before the mysterious man is winning over this sexy librarian, but trouble gets in the way. As danger approaches, their connection only gets stronger - but they'll have to fight for it.

I liked these two together as soon as they met, and I probably would've liked a full-length book about them. Just not this short story. It's difficult to pull off a strangers to lovers romance in a novella as it is, but if you add in a million subplots, then none of them are going to work. Jasmine and Torr's love story ended up feeling like 100% instalove, and I was legitimately confused about some other parts of the novella. So none of it was successful for me, unfortunately. The foundation of a decent love story is here, but it needed AT LEAST another 100 pages to do any of it right. I appreciated receiving an early copy, but this was a miss for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 rounded up to 4

Jasmine Ware is a librarian turned book curator living her life in Detroit. She runs in to the mysterious Torr Noble, who runs a private security business, after a date gone wrong and is instantly interested. While they try to find out if there is a spark, Torr gets an assignment that involves Jasmine: one of her rare book dealers and old family friends, Elliot Vernon, has fled town and his partner turns up murdered. They work together to figure out where Vernon went before he ends up the same way as his partner.

Award winning author Beverly Jenkins packs a lot in to this novella. The writing style is modern and sucks you in easily. It almost feels like a friend is telling me this story over dinner, which fits the tone of this book very well. There's enough details that you know exactly what is going on, but it never bogs down the story.

The romance is very cute. I'm not usually a fan of insta love in a romance, but this one didn't feel like it was too much. It actually fit in really well with the overall pacing of the book.

I received a eARC of this book in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jasmine Ware never expected she strong attraction she experienced with the man who assisted her after a disastrous blind date. Little did she realize their next encounter she would learn he was Torr Noble, a potential client. To say the chemistry between these two was more evident is an understatement. Torr was not about to let another opportunity pass and asked Jasmine out. While these two try to start a relationship, Jasmine is targeted because of her dealings with as a curator. As she and Torr delve deeper into mystery of the missing dealer, the danger unfolds.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rare Danger and loved Jasmines fierceness. I believe it was this quality and Jasmine’s overall personality that drew Torr to her. Loved the storyline.

This was my first Beverly Jenkins read and I highly enjoyed the fast pace and constant forward movement of the story. It truly was a small world, with Jasmine bumping into an enigmatic stranger at the end of a blind date from hell, who turns out to be the brother of one of her clients and a potential client himself. Torr the Brave was just the type of man that Jasmine needed in her life. Someone who was more than capable of taking care of her and protecting her, but also knew when to step back and let her handle things on her own.

I loved the suspense in the story, and how all the connections came together. I loved the chemistry between Jasmine and Torr. Lots of great side characters in this story that all played an integral part along the way in solving the mystery of who was after Jasmine because of her unintended connection to an art thief.

Now that I've had a taste of Ms. Jenkins' storytelling, I'm excited to go back and look up her other stories!

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Such a great concept for a romance and suspense book! I always love having librarians in on any case or chase. If you have a librarian character, I am in. Also, I have been wanting to pick up a Beverly Jenkins romance for quite some time and when this opportunity arose to read this I quickly jumped on it. I think I need to definitely read her works that are not novellas though. I did not realize this was a novella when I picked it up and I am not sure the novella format worked for this story. It ended up feeling unfinished or not fully developed.

The characters in this one did not feel fully developed and the romance as extremely rushed. I think with a slower pace and fuller development this absolutely would have been a compelling duo to root for. The pace of this was hindered that though. Man, I wish this had not been a novella. This was like getting an extra "fun-sized" candy bar that leaves you unsatisfied and wishing for the full size.

This has definitely intrigued me enough to try other works by Beverly Jenkins. I am especially wanting to dive into her historical romance because I love some historical romance. Also, hopefully, with more pages and more room for development those books will hopefully be exactly for me.

Beverly Jenkins gives us everything in this romantic suspense novella. Characters with tons of immediate chemistry. Enough backstory that we both care about them and we see their world in the side characters plus have that sense of place that makes every story sing. A murder, some bad guys, a rescue, and a chase, all for the perfect romantic suspense. A shout out to librarians and to Detroit. All of this in the tight format of a novella. This could be the opening of a series, it is so good. I loved it and devoured this one in record time. Beverly Jenkins fans should definitely check this out. Anyone looking for romantic suspense will love it.

This is a straightforward romance with a hint of suspense and two great main characters. Their meet-cute happens at the end of Jasmine's date from hell, and after running into the handsome stranger, she doesn't think she'll meet him again. But Torr turns out to be her newest client, and before long the two are mixed up in a criminal investigation that puts Jasmine in the path of someone very dangerous.

This was an easy read, but I do think it would've been better if it had been a full length novel. The relationship didn't get much chance to develop; Jasmine and Torr went from meeting to proposal within a week. Cute and hot, but not very believable. I still enjoyed the romance and the suspense for what it was.

This just didn't really work for me. Mainly because the thriller aspect to this novella just wasn't really well done, in my opinion. It just didn't feel very thrilling or suspensful to me. I also just felt like it was a bit hard to follow at times and I overall just wasn't very interested into that element of the story. The romance was pretty fun though. I could really feel the chemistry and attraction between our two main characters. I also think the two characters were pretty interesting characters to follow, if not a bit underdeveloped (which wasn't too terrible considering it was a novella). However, I feel like the romance moved extremely quickly, a bit too much for my own taste. I mainly checked this out because I'm interested in the author and I'm definitely still interested in checking out other stuff by Beverly Jenkins.

Fun and quick and full of action
This is the first contemporary and suspense book that I read by Beverly Jenkins and I enjoyed it.

This was a fast paced novella with an insta-love/attraction factor. I liked that the chemistry that the characters have, was palpable since the beginning and also appreciated how all the story was developed.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Jasmine lovers her job. She does not know what to think when a friend of hers goes missing. The more she digs, the more she becomes a target i liked this book.

Maybe I am tardy to the party but Ms Bev doing thrillers is just what I needed. I am just like.. where have I been? This was so good. Librarians and a good danger? Mixed with romane? I really do not want to give things away but it was amazing. I can't give it enough stars. It was short (it was a Novella). I def need another book with these characters.

Quick, fast, action packed read. Loved the chemistry between Lady Librarian Jasmine and Torr the Brave. Loved the setup of how they met when Jasmine was on a blind date from hell and also loved their misunderstanding getting cleared up with a simple conversation. Ultimately, I really liked that for being a romantic suspense, it still managed to be fairly low angst.

Jasmine is a librarian that curates libraries for the rich in Detroit. She's also on the worst date of her life (thanks, Terri!), who tells her to find her own way home...only to get his car repossesed right outside the restaurant, giving Jasmine a nice little meet-cute with the boss of the repo-crew. She thinks she'll never see him again...until he turns out to be the next day's new client.

Rare Danger is romantic suspense done fairly right. There are a few instances, such as a HUGE Falcon and Winter Soldier spoiler, a really fun-but-ridiculously-implausible chase scene, and the fact that all of Hawaii's beaches are public, but Ms Jenkins is such a fun writer that it's easy to lose yourself in the story and ignore the fact one of the characters [spoiler} a damn [spoiler] in rural Alabama. It's a fun, short (novella length) romp well worth the read.

This novella is a quick read that features some great elements - it starts with a librarian laying a verbal smackdown on a blind date and ends with a wedding (to someone who witnessed said smackdown) so you can imagine how fast everything moves, including the instaromance. It's definitely more heavy on the (not very explicit) romance than the suspense but Jenkins is obviously excellent at her job so it all works out.

A suspenseful novella is a tricky thing to do well and Jenkins nails it. Her trademark blend of heat, humor, and drama hooked me from the opening line and I didn't put it down until the happy ending.

From the first chapter with the date from hell to the final chapter with missiles being shot in small towns, this book is a winner.. I am familiar with the writing of this author and I must say I am not disappointed. The story may be a novella, biut it gave me everything from a great plot, chemistry between the main characters and seondary characters who need their own story.. Jasmine Ware career as a research librarian put her in coontact with a variety on interesting people, but when she meets Torr Noble the interest is more than books. The way these two interact with each other just jumps off the page. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a story that carries all the traits you like in a story, plot, chemisrty, humor, and danger.

Jasmine & Torr.
Explosive. Fast Paced. Sexy.
This novella is a quick read. Jasmine is a book curator and Torr is private security specialist. They have an instant connection dare I say live at first sight. Their connection takes them on a fast paced journey to find a missing artifact. Guns. Choppers. Darts. Tasers. Lust. Everything you need for a proper mission.

This novels is thrilling ride. A romantic suspense that burns quickly. I love Beverly Jenkins historical romance and this contemporary does not disappoint.

I try to hold ARCs gently and treat them with tenderness. After all, these are someone's book babies, and I recognize that!

My first impression of this book was that it was simply not ready for the public yet. It's very short, more of a novella, and while it has a an intriguing plot line, there's just not enough room for any development of the characters, the plot line, or the romance. Additionally, there was a lot of telling versus showing, some very stilted and cringy dialogue, and a lot of unnecessary detail. This was a great idea, it just needed a lot more fleshing out. My assumption based on the writing was that this was an unexperienced writer.

Imagine my surprise when I read about the author at the end of the book, and realized that she has been writing for decades and has won several awards! I have no idea how to explain this. Either this is not her best work or I am not this author's target audience.

I received an arc in exchange for my honest opinion, which I have provided here. My thanks and best wishes to the author, publisher, and #netgalley. #RareDanger
