As usual I will not be rehashing the plot here as I believe that the professional blurb writers do a better job without giving anything away. This is a family saga about two women with very different views of life. The story starts off in a straightforward way, uncomplicated but does not remain so! Indeed, it becomes quite disturbing in places and certainly has put me off going on holiday with someone I barely know!

Maureen has been left an inheritance which will set her up for life. After working hard all her life she decides to leave work as her boss is a tyrant and enjoy her life
Barbara is a friend from years back who keeps in touch sporadically who thinks she is a cut above everyone else, leading everyone to believe that she was a star on the stage when in actual fact she was just a chorus girl and living well beyond her means
Maureen is a kind hearted woman and offers to pay for them both to go on holiday and she would pay. Barbara readily agrees where she finds out that her friend has come into some money and decides that she deserves it more and goes out of her way to persuade Maureen to hand it over by telling her sob stories
Plenty of twists and turns, some of which had me wanting to slap Barbara for her attitude !
I really enjoyed it

I haven't read Josephine Cox in many years but having been offered this copy in exchange for an honest review I thought I'd give it a go.
Not my usual style I might add but it was actually very enjoyable.

Easy to read with well written characters and descriptive landscapes.
Nothing overly dramatic or groundbreaking but that isn't a bad thing.
Comfortable, easy reading.

Definitely recommended.

So this is not my usual type of book and although it didn’t get my heart racing or adrenaline going as I usually look for in a book it did hold my interest. If you are a lover of family sagas then this book I would say has everything for you. Unfortunately this is just not my type of genre.

Maureen Bancroft is such a loving caring person, bringing up two girls on her own meant life has been a struggle and she has had to watch every penny, so when she inherits a large amount of money she feels it's time to change. With encouragement from her girls Sylvia and Eliza she decides to take a little holiday, needing a friend to go with her she looks up her old school friend Barbara Hayle.
Barbara is the complete opposite of Maureen, she is like a bright light, she picks up Maureen in her large flashy car, and presents herself as a star taking in her audience. She is all about glamour after being successful on the stage?

Once on their holiday, Maureen discovers Barbara is not all she seems, She is selfish, bossy, and rude to Maureen., who now wishes she hadn't let her into her life and left the past where it should be.

As the story unfolds there are quite a few surprises and unexpected turns that keep the reader gripped. There are not too many characters so it is nice and easy to follow.
I really enjoyed this book.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. xx

A Time To Remember tells the story of two friends whose lives have taken different paths over the years. They meet again after some years have passed and Barbara seems to be everything that Maureen is not. However things aren't as they seem and what starts out as a nostalgic trip between friends, becomes something different altogether.

This is a compelling story about life choices, secrets and appearances. Another excellent read from Josephine Cox.

Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins UK and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A gripping new drama by the fabulous Josephine Cox! Maureen Bancroft has never learned the art of putting herself first. As a widow with a gentle temperament and humble ways, she’s been easy to take advantage of.
All that changes when an unexpected windfall comes her way. Determined to make up for lost time, she decides to take a holiday and, needing a companion, looks up her friend, Barbara Hayle.

Glamorous, and with a successful career on the stage, Barbara seems to be everything that Maureen is not. But things aren’t as they seem, and what starts out as a nostalgic trip between friends, becomes something different altogether. Much has changed in the years since they first met ̶ now Maureen has something that her friend desperately needs, and Barbara is used to getting exactly what she wants.
As their journey takes them down some dark byways, will this be the one friendship that Maureen should have left firmly in the past. So powerful and poignant... a beautifully written story.

Maureen Bancroft has never learned the art of putting other people first. As a widow with a gentle temperament and humble ways, she's been easy to take advantage of. All that changes when an unexpected windfall comes her way. Determined to make up for lost time, she decides to take a holiday, needing a companion, she looks up her friend, Barbara Hayle.

When Maureen receives a vast amount of money left to her by a previous employer in her will, Maureen decides to go on holiday and asks an old school friend, Barbara Hayle to accompany her. The news of Maureen's good fortune quickly spreads. Barbara is not the friend Maureen thought she was, she lives a life surrounded by secrets and lies. The characters are well rounded and believable. I liked Maureen and her family, Sylvia and her husband Des and her youngest daughter, Eliza. I also liked the multi-talented Theo, who Eliza worked for. Maureen makes some goo life changes, but she makes some bad ones as well. This is a quick and easy book to read.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Maureen, always putting others first and letting them tell her what to do for them. Has never thought of putting herself first.

When she receives some money, she decides to make some changes and go on holiday, wanting to take her friend Barbara with her, decides to find out where she is.

Barbara’s life is so different to Maureen’s, but what everything isn’t as it appears to be. The two start on a wistful trip, turns into something else. Things have changed since they first met, Barbara wants what Maureen has, and Barbara has always got what she wants.

Has Maureen made the right decision by taking her friend on this journey, or should have left the past exactly where it was, in the past?

As always Josephine Cox has written a wonderful book , this proves she is still up there with the very best.
A Time To Remember is a story , two friends who over the years went down different life paths .
They come together again and realise those years have done different things to each other , some positive , and others far from it.
A brilliant read.
