Ex-Marine, Sarah is tasked with what should be a simple job supervising the movement of a two hundred million dollar superyacht from Majorca to the Caribbean. On paper the job looks like a routine security detail for the insurance company. Good pay and a chance to clear her head for 12 days, it should be hot tubs and cocktails all the way across the Atlantic. But, of course, things don't go to plan.
This is a fantastic mystery thriller, quite knicker gripping at times, with great characters and a brilliant setting. Okay, so I guessed what was going on fairly early on but that in no way spoiled my enjoyment of this darn fine book. Highly recommended.
I really loved this book, was a fantastic read which I could not put down, every chapter left me wanting to read on and not put the book down, it was so good I finished it in 2 days. I loved the story and the intriguing characters that made the story such a good thriller with so many twists and turns that you did not know who to trust and left you guessing to the very end but with a brilliant finish. Would really recommend this book to everyone who loves a brilliant mystery book.
Absolutely loved this book and is easily worth 4.5 stars. The writing was really good and flowed well. It is told from the perspective of Sarah an ex royal marine who suffers with ptsd after the death of not only her fellow comrade but also her partner in love too. Through out the book your left not only wanting to know more about Sarah but also what is going on with the super yacht
An author I haven't come across before, but I am so very glad I picked this book to read. It is one of the most exciting I have read in sometime.
Sarah French is an ex Royal Marine. Something happened in Afghanistan that brought her world crashing down. She still has nightmares and barely copes. She meets up in Southampton with Mitch also an ex Marine, he now runs a security company providing military trained personnel. Sarah is a new recruit. Mitch is aware Sarah needs time to recover. He suggests joining a superyacht - the Escape, on a twelve day crossing from Majorica in the Spanish islands to Antigua in the caribbean. Insurance need a secutity presence but it's just a formality. Just what she needs a simple atlantic crossing.
She meets briefly with Mitch and Jason Chen who is the Yacht owner's representative. An arrogant sexist guy, also with Greg the captain a genial middle aged sailor.
In Palma Sarah meets the sleleton crew. Besides the skipper and Chen, there is Karis the female number. two. There is an australian male engineer and then the crew four men and two women. Then unannounced an extra person arrives - a guest. Harriet Dewitt-Fendley a relative of the owner.
Before all checks are completed, the captain insists they need to be on their way. They set off at a fast speed, much to the crews surprise.
There are simmering resentments amongst some of the people on board and soon they face great danger on the high seas.
I can't recommend this book too highly. Definitely an author to follow. he also writes books under a different name. Very highly recommended.
Sarah French is an ex- marine trying to forget the past. She gets a job as security on a luxury yacht. Easy job as its delivering the yacht for the owner.
However, the further they get away from land Sarah realises that there is a killer on board who will stop at nothing.
As crew members start to disappear, equipment is found vandalised and a storm is brewing Sarah is in trouble.
The plot sounded really interesting and different. The delivery was very slow and somewhat far fetched about a crew that all seemed to have their own agendas whilst delivering a super yacht. The main character Sarah was annoying and I am not sure why the PTSD was relevant. Not for me but I am sure others will enjoy it.
Enjoyed this one. A delve into the trappings of the super rich as we go on board an amazing yacht being moved across the ocean. Mainly just the staff on board when things start to go awry and people start going missing. But why? And by whose hand? Does our security agent on board save the day while dealing with her own demons from the past?
Check this out to find out. Recommended.
I Really liked this. The writing is enjoyable, it’s really descriptive, good character development and a great whoDunnit.
It’s a gripping murder mystery which takes place upon a luxury yacht where ex marine Sarah French joins the crew as security to deliver it to its owner. Crew members start to disappear and dark secrets come to the surface, keeps you on the edge of your seat, tense with a great ending.
Thanks to #NetGallery #CameronWard for a ARC of #AStrangerOnBoard in exchange for an honest review.
Really enjoyed this fast paced book set on a luxury yacht where there is a killer on board. Kept me guessing as the tension grows the pages were turned faster!
Recommended read.
A new author for me. Told from the perspective of the main character, Sarah, and set onboard super yacht Escape, in transit from Majorca to Antigua, this is very quick paced thriller cleverly put together but similar in parts to other marine drama stories I have read. The setting was well done with a big cast of characters, most of whom aren’t particularly likeable, and the number of people onboard made it less than obvious who the killer was, always a big plus point.
Briefly, Sarah, an ex Royal Marine suffering from PTSD, has been hired to provide security for the trip. On board, along with the owners daughter and his secretary is a full crew. The voyage starts smoothly but then the captain goes missing during a violent Atlantic storm. Sarah has to overcome her own nightmares to investigate the disappearance and prevent the crew suffering further losses.
This is a pleasant enough read with a few twists which kept the story interesting and it was well written. An interesting concept that didn’t quite hit the mark for me but don’t let that put you off as I would certainly read this author again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I really struggled with A Stranger on Board. I loved the synopsis but it just didn’t jump of the page when reading. I tried to pick it up and read a few times but it’s a not for me. But sure others will love it.
Although I liked this book I didn't love it. The main character, Sarah, was quite annoying and she certainly didn't strike me as being a former Royal Marine. An interesting concept but it didn't quite work for me.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exciting book
a jaded ex marine sarah with ptsd starts her new job as security on a luxury yacht being taken to its owners with a skeleton crew
but from the first day things start to wrong, but it can be put down to some of the systems not being installed but when the first person goes missing ...
thats when things start to get weird, but even then it can be explained away ....
but as more mishaps starts to take place sarahs training kicks in...
and boy does it kick in...this one keeps you reading till the very end and the shocks dont stop can only hope this is the beginning of a good series, if not its a brilliant one off book that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the end
A Stranger on Board is set on a super yacht being delivered back to its owner after upgrades and told through Sarah an ex marine now working as Security .With a skeleton crew things start to go drastically wrong on the journey .I did find this quite a sl;ow burner it seemed like I had read half the book before there was any action but it was an enjoyable read albeit a long one .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC .
What a fantastic book! Lots of suspense and intrigue a really engaging storyline. I literally read it in one weekend. Highly recommended.
This was certainly fast paced with lots of twists. The claustrophobic atmosphere on a ship in the middle of The Atlantic was well handled and the mix of different characters on board worked well. I wouldn’t want to be on there,!
A stranger on board - Cameron Ward
Not really much can be said. Ummm 🤔 The best bit…….the end! 👎🏻
The plot of A Stranger On Board actually didn't go the way I thought it would so I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the book was going to be fairly formulaic but the last 25% was like something out of an action movie and I was here for it! The problem for me was the build up. It was too slow and too repetitive, with too much telling rather than showing. I found myself skimming parts and even considered giving up at one point. I'm glad I didn't though, because the ideas were there, and I enjoyed the tension and action of the ending.
This book was ok just a steady read. The characters on the whole were good except for the big chip in the main characters shoulder which was annoying.. The storyline was alright but it didnt have me enthralled. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book.
Good read that kept me guessing. I liked how the situation developed and forced Sarah to face up to her past.
